Brilliant!!! amazingly synchronized and powerful rendering ... way more enjoyable than most of the other postings of this piece ,,,, specially Karajan's
@MahlerTitan I've listened to rather a lot of recordings of this piece and the section at 4:40 is like that in every one of them. Now this means it is meant to be like this or it means that its a really bad bit for the 'cellos and they almost always get it wrong.
Lim was one of the best conductors in romanticism & nationalism music in my opinion, and one of the worst in classical period music. You should listen to his recording of Tchaikovsky's symphonies with Russian National Orchestra, it's one of the best recordings.
frankly I personally thought this performance was a pretty good one. The conductor chose to do some stuff that seems not to have recieved fond welcoming amongst some viewers, but then again its his choice. Whether that comes from his own thoughts on the background of the piece, or evident cultural differences, i'm not too sure. aside from that on the whole it was quite pleasant to listen to and the tempo modifications added a new texture to the piece.
There isn't really anything good or bad about this performance, it's either extremely interesting or "incredibly bad" as one poster says. Not too well put together though, there are stuff conductors did i simply don't understand, like the sudden change of tempo in a few places, which completely severed a few passages, why? Beethoven didn't write it, i checked the score too!
Let me just point one spot to prove my case, around 4:40, the lower strings (cellos) should be stating the main theme, but someone must have messed up in there, you can clearly hear a rather "scrambled" highly disorganized main theme.
what the hell is the modern ear? :P obviously you like the changes in tempo, but that doesn't mean that someone who doesnt like the changes isn't modern enough. Fact is that this conductor chose not to follow the original transcript, and you can like it or not, and thats all!
i am no classical aficionado, but i would say that you're right in the sense that tempo changes could loosely be defined as 'unnatural'. it takes a very particular skill to bridge the gaps and make it work...but yeah, ears are ears
Es admirable ver lo jóvenes que son los músicos: Las chicas del oboe y el clarinete lo hacen tan perfecto que obliga a repetirlo muchas veces. Grandiosa interpretación!!!
I like the performance. Many orchestras take the "Siegssymphonie" at the end too fast and manage to trivialize it. I believe it's marked Prestissimo, but this performance convinces me that that shouldn't be taken too literally.

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very tiny sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “autumntree2011” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.

Offer another version, surely that's a better "counter measure" right? Plus, I would like to hear a better version!

Your criticism is a bit strong.
For a slow tempo rubato conductor/orch it was really very good.
I like the way the girls dressed uniformly. Take note western #!@&s. (Nice emerald color too.)
