  • Santa is a B-52?! :o

  • fabulous

  • MY BOYFRIEND THINKS THIS A GREAT SONG

  • This song was my first introduction to the B52's... I think everything changed from that day forth.

  • 1:01 so hilarious and epic! cosmic toast!!

  • bass is godly <3

  • killer bass

  • Who sings like this!!!!!???? Not even Madonna in her glory days. Cindy seems like the more traditional romantic type. She's just awesome. Kate's more "out there". Lovely women both. Classy. Not like some performers today...

  • I'm finding it hard stop listening to this song...

  • i think the B's are playing in san diego in OCT, i might just go see them, always liked them when i was a kid, just recently watched all their vids on youtube, now like them even more

  • I'm in love with B52 since I was five years old and I'm 32 now.

  • @amsterdamx

Same here! Rocko's Modern Life introduced me to the B52s!

  • Fred looks like Klaus Nomi in this video! :) LOVE the B's.

  • This song expresses such a beautiful sentiment. I don't see how Cindy could possibly perform any of this song without crying.

  • this was an amazi ng song and video....but I think the song with the lyrics "Flying saucers could land and it wouldnt' make much difference to my man..." is so tender..."Ain't that a shame'.

  • Gay Face.

  • what do kids like today anyway? justin bieber? that jerk is just using those kids! he makes me sick!

  • lol what a crazy video =D

  • It's sad how most kids hate this music! >.<

    I'm 10,almost 11,and I'm in love with The B-52s!

My dad is taking me to their concert in Memphis,Tennessee tomorrow!

So excited! I just wish that they would put this song AND Channel Z on the list.

Channel Z is only played in South America mostly when they tour. It was removed from all the other playlist! D:

  • @xXSkittlesDaRabbitXx Yeah, I know what you mean. Being 15, I just started listening to the B's around your age. People thought I was so strange, lol. And I would love to hear Girl From Ipanema live. Too bad they never perform anything from the Bouncing Off The Satellites era :(

  • B52´s and The Cramps, best go-go music since the sixties dried up...

  • @ Word was, that Ricky was sick but still in the studio when "Bouncing" was being recorded. He kept his illness to himself, because he did not want anyone to worry about him. He died before the video for Girl was made, hence in one version his face is in the moon. The album was released a year later in '86. The other members were too distraught to tour. Warner/Reprise did not promote the album either. Ironically, in Aug it will be 25 yrs since "Bouncing" was released.

  • I'm surprised this song wasn't a big hit. I like the guitar mixed with the synth. B-52s are awesome.

  • Spotlight! On Cindy.

  • This is one of the tracks where producer Tony Mansfield used the Fairlight CMI synthesizer, which by today's standards is considered a dinosaur. However, no one has been able to duplicate it. You can hear it all over this track.

  • @krsongs I like the Fairlight on this album...it adds to the dark undercurrent and gritty atmosphere surrounding Ricky's death.

  • "remember, where ever U go, there U are"

  • Miss the 80s :'( love the song! :D

  • gotta love the ancient computer graphics =]

  • WAT IS DIS!! THIS ISNT GIRL FROM IPANEMA!! GIRL FROM IPANEMA IS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD!!

  • @HH444 What do you mean?

  • Best part is when Kate eats the toast.

  • This song is awesome and from my ALL TIME favorite album of theirs. I'm probably in the minority when it comes to this album but it was loaded with gems. There is nobody in today's music world that can even compare to the diverse talent of the B's. They didn't do what everyone else was doing, they did THEIR thing and did it well and they didn't compromise it to sell more records.

  • I love them, gaa. ;;

  • This was one of my all time favorite songs as a child. I was born in '86 and my mom had this album. She used to play it in the house and in the car all the time so that album is almost like a piece of my childhood. I still listen to this album, more than my mom now. Go fig.

  • Love the B-52's :)

  • I love Cindy but i think that kate gets most of the attention. They both are, fabulous singers. while kate has a 'one tone' voice cindy sings with feeling. But don't let that cloud your thinking they are my all time faves (next to Heart) i also think that cindy sort of resembles Drew Barrymore (my fave actress)

  • Great song... and they had fun too... LOVE IT!!!

  • Ah, I remember songs like these... You know, when music was actually GOOD and not simply created, mass-marketed and forced upon the public by the music companies for the sole purpose of selling records. These days modern music especially of the pop genre emulates the old phrase, "We don't want it good, we want it on Tuesday!" Thanks for the memories!

  • Bouncing off the Satellites is a great album. I listened to it endlessly when it came out. I was in college then so I had a lot of time to listen to great music, party and enjoy life. Ahh memories.

    Thanks for posting !

  • All their songs are good, so it's hard to say which song is my favorite, but I do like the video. I have this one VHS tape....

  • doesn't sound like cindy at all..sounds like kate's. wtf? i must be wrong.

  • @chelseasage3101 Sucks for you. Kids these days need to be more diverse with music. They need to pull back on all of this cheap synthy music they make these days. I, being only 14 enjoy today's music but I also love music of all sorts from different eras.

  • @booboobay1

    Big ups to you, young'un!

  • @booboobay1 Kids these days need to start riots

  • @chelseasage3101 why would comment on it then? sorry its not jay z....

  • @chelseasage3101 don't like good music i guess

  • remember that where ever you go there you are

  • @chelseasage3101 ....how strange ? when i play this, my parents walk away !!

  • @chelseasage3101Yet...you signed in YouTube and wanted to see and hear this song again?????

  • @chelseasage3101 Yet and still you turn to YouTube just to see and hear this particular song. Either you like this song nor you don't.

  • Great great club song. Really showcased Cindy's cool ethereal voice.

  • dis is my happy song lol i love it so!

  • AND INVADES WASHINGTON...

  • THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA INVADES MIAMI...YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

  • Great sound, great band. Also, the fact that John Lennon was a big fan of theirs just adds to their greatness.

  • if i proposed to this song do you think it would marry me?

  • one of the ten best discs ever set loose on the listening public

  • To me, Kate has one of the most beautiful and unique voices of the past 30 years.

  • @jefit Cindy is singing this song, not Kate.

  • @jpmorbid Yipes - you're right!

  • @jpmorbid all the time, i thought it was just kate...throws me off..they can h armonize GREAT, almost as good as ABBA.

  • you would be disappointed if you went back in a time machine...this song was a big club hit, but they were never played it on the radio in the actual 1980s. in late summer of 1989 after they started touring and they released love shack after channel Z most of the DJs would flip out and cut off the song at tin roof lest there be dead air for the first few weeks. Radio was generally very awful in the 1980s.

  • Futuristic sound! Retro look! Charming personalities! Best group ever and will be heard even in the year 3000!

  • 2010 and I just discovered gold with this song. Who is to blame? newest fan here but catching up fast thanks to ytube. The B52s are indeed a band of their own.

  • I'm sure it was hard as hell to promote this album at the time, being during the death of Cindy's brother and 4th band member but my god, How great this song and video is!!!!So innovative. If music was now as it was back then, I would never turn off the radio! Makes me sad.....

  • @TTLTOY1 Good points. Some of their songs make me really sad because Cindy's brother died. Talk about a big ass bummer. I wish my sympathy could somehow help the situation... but it can't.

Great music. Both Kate and Cindy have such beautiful voices.

  • @BigAgitator I remember this being a REALLY strange album right after it came out. It took me several years to finally "embrace" it - I instantly loved every previous album. I didn't know at the time about Ricky's death, but it really explains a lot about the vibe the album had. This was really the only song that jumped out back then. I love it and I'm glad it's back here!

  • @TTLTOY student radio keeps the dream alive.

  • @TTLTOY1 You are correct, but this album was actually recorded in July 1985 when Ricky was still alive (but suffering from AIDS). He died in November, when the band was re-recording the album since Warner though none of the songs would be hits and had them reworked. 95% of the sessions were completed by this time but the release date was postponed to 1986 in order to separate the instance of death. By then the B-52s had been forgotten and this album sadly bombed.

  • @EpicWINNER1000 Ricky died Oct 12 1985

  • @megazythr Crap...forgot about that. Thanks for correcting me.

  • @EpicWINNER1000 Sure, no problem

  • @EpicWINNER1000 Sure, no problem

  • my favorite song by b-52's

  • nice hair... lol

  • `This girls lost someone, who is that someone, she`s leaving.` pretty prophetic lyrics don`t you think ? and listen to `Ain`t it a shame`again, a much overlooked song on `satellites`. a sad and beautiful song and very `Cindy `I think.

  • if im not mistaken, i believe Cindy and her twin brother wrote several of the songs this group did.

  • @huskerdu703 Ricky was her older brother not twin.

  • God this is so my song! I used to dance to this in my room and pretend I was going to greenland! Oh I miss the eighties!

  • Yes, retire "Roam"... I would totally love to hear them sing this live! By the way, just saw them LiVE tonight!!! at the Del Mar Race Track, in Cali! The girls were struggling a little tonight tho.... might be a little tough to pull off live!

  • lol kate's hair makes me giggle ^^

  • I remember playing this on the video jukebox at the e-club on base back in 1986. Great song. Awesome Group.

  • I recall when VH1 Classic played nothing but music videos, and a wide variety of them, too. I saw this video on here...An interesting video for a wonderful song. Nowadays, if VH1 Classic plays a music video, it's either a group like Poison, a group like Iron Maiden or a group like Pearl Jam...In other words, definitely not songs that sound like this. That's a damn shame, too...This is a wonderful song.

  • wow i luv this song

  • I wonder about the story about the making of the video since it was the first video w/out Ricky Wilson....

  • @ScorpRabbit96 Needless to say it must have been tough doing the video, especially for Cindy. I'm guessing the record label still wanted to show the B's as a party band and tried to keep any references to Ricky at a minimum. I'm wondering if the band sneaked it in but if you take a close look at the face that's in the rising moon at 1:51...Rest in Peace, Ricky.

  • @TarotMage : I've read that this video was very hard on Cindy - and while I always thought that "Roam" was a tribute to Ricky, I've also read that they purposely put his ascending picture in the moon in this video on purpose ... I'll have to do some more research, and see if that's true. In any case: R.I.P. Ricky. You are missed.

  • Everybody allways mentions how great a singer Kate is and how beautifull (I'm no exeption here), but most of the best B 52's songs were actually sung by Cindy. Anyway, the B 52's are by far my all time favourite band.

  • @hardmanners Yes, I think Kate certainly does get much of the attention and plus, Kate's voice comes through more when they harmonize I think. Cindy's vocals are pretty loose while Kate's are in complete control. They're both very talented and beautiful sounding in their own signature way.

  • @booboobay1 I think due to their respective diffrences they really need eachother to have the sound the band has vocally...Kate does the clear soaring harmonies and Cindy counters as well as matches as the sort of 'earthy' bottom end to Kates...well...thats just me...I always wish they'd do 'Ipanema' live hay...It'd give Fred a chance to get a drinka nd change jackets or something ;))

..that way they could...maybe retire 'ROAM' for just a few shows....*gasp* I know...

  • @AlphaOrange75 I really wish they'd sing this song live! I wonder if Cindy's voice could still reach that high note? Her voice has gotten a bit lower over the years

  • @booboobay1 Yes,especially that opening held note, might be tough but I'd still like to hear them try it.The song might need a bit of updating or reinterp for a live show but even so....worth a try at least.;)

  • @booboobay1 oh, she does!...just saw them sign this song 2 nights ago in tucson az...sounds great live!

  • @AlphaOrange75 Yes, retire "Roam"... I would totally love to hear them sing this live! By the way, just saw them LiVE tonight!!! at the Del Mar Race Track, in Cali!

  • @kokomango23 THATS AWESOME! I saw them 2 times last year and they were so much fun.I can't help but think they should try an official full on live album(cd/dvd set?) because even their best studio records don't quite show off the energy live. The B's are justone of those groups that you have to see live to totally it(I think)

  • @AlphaOrange75 Yeah, true that.

  • @booboobay1

I think the Wikipedia description of their combined vocal talents is pretty accurate. Kate is technically excellent, but without Cindy's powder blue vocals something is missing. I would say this happened on the Good Stuff album - Kate acquitted herself well, especially on "Tell It Like it TIS" (she sings her little heart out), but I don't think she can carry an entire B-52s album on her own.

  • @algoyo agreed but I also can hear the space in" Tell it "where Cindy would come in and though I completly agree that Good Stuff is strongly held up quite solidly by Kate herself...they shoudl rerecord the record using some of the original elements from 92 and just punch in fresh new intrementation/voice from all of them!

  • @booboobay1 ravishingly babuliciousness both possess

in overflowing abundance (emphaisi on dance)

    'twos for the win

  • @hardmanners no way..kate has a VOICE and she's fucking gorgeous. the cindy chick has buggie eyes , ack.

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII Thats a matter of opinion, I think they`re both great, and I LOVE Cindy`s eyes :-)

  • @hardmanners I couldn't agree more. To me, Cindy Wilson IS the B-52's. Kate's voice could easily be replaced.

  • @nauort23 I'm glad nobody tried to replace Kates voice. The two of them are just perfect the way they are.

  • one of my favorites still

  • This was and still is a bad jam.
