On my first drum, I didn't heat up the glue as I removed the first strip of glue, it ripped off a chunk of wood. Do you think wood filler would work in getting this filled, its not deep, but pretty unsightly. So once the wrap is off, the process would be wood filler, sand, sand sealer, primer, paint, paint, paint? Also any tips for painting lugs/hardware ? I'm trying to repair drums damaged in a fire. Thanks!
IF your wood grain is vertical Thats a cheap drum shell? Is that right? And the wood is always smooth, not flakey and splintery if its quality? I hope thats right. i bought a morrell drumset today. Its was 150 but i bought it for the cymbals and hardware. Im pretty sure its basswood but how can i tell?
Hey man, just so you know, there is an easier way to remove the wrapping. Heat it all with a hair dryer. It makes the glue and wrap much more pliable and won't screw up the wood as much :)
Definitely follow sgt. pepper's advice and USE A HAIR DRYER!!! I practiced on some CB shells but their glue is shit and easy to come off. But I kinda fucked up the first shell of my Yamaha powerV kit, b/c I pulled as hard as I could to get the wrapping off & a bunch of wood came with it. So I had to use alot of wood filler to make up for it. On the rest of my Yamaha shells I slowly heated the glue with a hair dryer and was able to get all the glue off with minimal damage
yeah, i tried painting my WJMs, and the glue ripped up the first layer of wood on my bass...about 5 minutes ago. i was so pumped too haha. ill try an fix it but it wont look professional.

Are the wrapping glued on all the way around the drum or just in the ends of the wrap on pearl drum sets? Does anybody know?

I found that kerosene can remove the goo that was left on my Tama Rockstars, takes a bit of rubbing but works well.

Where can you get new air holes to replace the ones you destroy?

you can get them from Fastenal stores. They'll probably have to order them for you. They're called grommets.

one thing you should have tried, when getting the wrap off, use a hairdryer to heat the glue/tape up so it loosens the wrap a lot easier
