@StechDoes It's really easy to make! Tell you what, though - if you've got the munchies, go look for the zucchini bread videos. OMG, it's Arnold Palmer's recipe (yes, THAT Arnold Palmer) - and it's easy, easy, easy!
@102anya No idea where you live, but where I live, our municipal water supply has won quality awards. Actually, much of the bottled water you buy comes from - guess what? - municipal water supplies. You really thought it came from a fresh mountain stream?? Hardly.
@sarah4evva I don't know - if you try it, come back and tell us how it turned out? I haven't made this very often (twice, actually) so I haven't experimented with the method or the ingredients.
@ghag3 Might work better while it's melted, if you know you want to color it and you know how much of it you want to color what. I did it while it was cold, but I think the earlier you do it, probably, the better the result. I really haven't done this often enough to say for sure! Let us know, okay?
@markcumbriauk Thanks! Yes, my own mother was one of those. I enjoyed experimenting on my own (odd that the first thing I should do, at 19, the first time my parents went out of the country and left me "home alone," was to buy calamari and couscous and try an "adventurous" recipe). I'm all for teaching kids to cook - and to clean up as they go (the consequences of not doing that are obvious and easy for them to deal with). It's good fun for the whole family - with tangible rewards!
@markcumbriauk Actually, the first time my son and I cooked anything together, I was trying to teach him math - not cooking. :) But he did enjoy the results so much (as did I) that cooking seemed a great next step!
hi ! I'm making my own birthday cake next week, and I already made a cake using your directions for the marshmellow fondant. It worked great, but we ate the cake that day. I was just wondering whether or not the fondant will crack if I refregerate it over night? Do I just leave it out, or refrigerate it? I wasn't sure. Also, can you add food coloring just when the marshmellows are melted, instead of adding once the fondant is already finished ?
Yes I made the frosting I made a simple little butterfly cake from another video how to's but I didn't make extra frosting to stick down fondant I forgot about that. But my family seem to finally enjoy a different taste of frosting. I like experminting. Thank you Hey im at pdolmeda@inbox.com on myspace
Hey June 14th 2010 I looked over many recipes and found yours was good I made it it's setting now. Thank you you can email sally_j2000@yahoo.com my name is Dianne I am in Redlands Ca.
The video is very informative - you guys did a great job at sharing with all 27,000 plus at this time. But why do people have to make negative comments - if you don't like the TV in the background or the way the boy opens the bag - go buy a professionally made dvd - Great job on the video and thanks for sharing. Peter from New York
Thank you, Peter! I think a lot of the negativity here comes from people who've been kicked around, a bit, themselves. If only they realized that taking random potshots at a kid only invited others to take random potshots at THEM, perhaps they'd think twice.
Mentioning the TV in the background is a legitimate criticism - but as you point out, I'm far from a professional videographer; we were just having fun in the kitchen, my son and I. Thank you for your kind words.
I am a retired Math teacher (38 years) and ended up the last 2 years teaching home & careers and wood shop. I love that you did not "make" the recipe yourself, but had your son do it. I am not running a video business and just love the "stuff" on you tube. Keep it up. I'll be enjoying it. Peter
I tried it first, to be sure it was doable (that part's not on camera). Then I cleaned up the kitchen and had him make a batch. We did the same with the zucchini bread.
As for the tripe - that was just for fun, all the way around. I did the cooking, HE was behind the camera. Except when he wanted to switch places and try things - like chopping the veggies in the Cuisinart or shooting mom in the eye with a Nerf dart. First time my son cooked anything, though, it was to learn math.
I had him choose a recipe (he chose butterscotch cookies) and then asked him to make 1 1/2 times as much as the recipe called for. Another time, I had him cut it in half. Now he does all my recipe conversions for me - he's far better at math than I ever was. The key to learning anything, as you know, is to have fun with it.
this is awesome thanks alot. I am going to give it a shot and try to make my son a cake for his first bday. How long does this process take? And should i keep the fondant in the fridge over night.( isaw that in another video) how/when do i add the color if i want some?
@laboyett - he's a fun kid. Watch the "Adventures in Tripe" videos we made. At one point, I was filming him, and he shot the camera lens at point blank range with a Nerf dart.

farfooshah1 1 year ago 2
@farfooshah1 crisco is vegetable shortening. In Australia it's usually sold as 'copha'
emma8547 1 year ago
@farfooshah1 its kind of like butter but it doesnt have the fatness or something like that. its flammable too. its kinda harder than butter.

I don't remember exactly how long it took, but not long at all. Add color during the kneading, and you can store it in the fridge for about 4 weeks.
