how interesting, i am a Tendai Buddhist in Australia and for me it is unusual to hear the Lotus Sutra chanted in english- although Australia is ofcoarse an english speaking country i have always been taught to chant the Lotus Sutra in Japanese (that is not to say that it is reinforced that we should be mindful of its english meaning). Is it common in Nichiren Shu temples to chant in english?
@ginabanadab It is optional as to which language we use in our services. Here in the US we do try to encourage the use of a standard English service. The English that is used is the same and comes from the Senchu Murano translation of the Lotus Sutra. Here at this temple in Charlotte, we do Chap 2 in English and 16 in Shindoku at almost all services. Other Chapters when included in the service are generally done in English.
