Some dachshunds love the water...but if you have to put him in and he gets right out, yours probably doesn't. It could be too deep for him too, my dachshund would run into the water if there was a shore.

All you bleeding heart people that are crying about not doing that to him need to just stop. I have a miniature long haired dachshund that I've raised from an 8 week old puppy. He loves the pool. Whenever someone he trusts is in the pool he waits at the edges to be brought in and held. when he's ready to get out we bring him close to the steps and let him swim the rest of the way and he absolutely loves it.

i belive every dog can swim but people who think they swim naturally are wrong u have to help teach then just like we needed swimming lessons when we were young and they always have to have their owner with them in the pool for drowning hazards just like we needed our parents yes some dogs are naturally water dogs and other like frenchies and any other bulldog is not supposed to swim but with their owner they can have a little splash in the water just always be in the water with them !

My dachshund was scared at first, but it is his favorite activity. They actually have webbed feet to help them swim. Also, it is good for them because the exercise is easy on their spine.

@danogolden I am well aware of this fact, danogolden, being a proud dachshund owner myself. I would (a) never leave my dachshund unattended in an entity of water unsupervised, and (b) would have my dachshund wearing a life jacket along with myself by his side helping him paddle along. Water therapy is actually great exercise for a dachshund as it is easier on their back and joints than walking, for example. As for my comment, I was just making a very cute observation.

Doxies generally enjoy swimming. There are tons of videos on here with Doxies willingly swimming. There's no harm in just trying! It's not like they made the thing stay in there until it drowned.
