Comment font-elles pour se repérer dans leur toile ? Apparemment celle-ci est organisée en 3D, et l'araignée la parcourt sans arrêt pour aller refaire des paquets. Est-ce qu'elle ne s'emmêle jamais les pattes ?
hey blacksheep ya these things are crawling everywhere and there are some in my garage and at night i take my dog for a walk and there is a black widow every 3 feet under this little ledge
just found out the brown widow has reached south tx , in a month period i have killed 20 in my yard . i go out every other day to scan the perimeter for webs and i find 2-3 normally im very disturbed . whats best method of controlling these suckers. I already alerted the neighbors any other tips?
I read somewhere that the brown widow has a more potent venom than the black widow. But what makes the black widow more dangerous is the way their venoms interact with our body. I dont remember exactly, but the venom of the black widow attacks your nervous system while the venom of the brown widow attacks in the local area of the bite.
I'am afraid you are confusing with the brown recluse spider, that has a necrotic venom, while the widows have a neurotoxic one that contract internal muscle. one of the symptom is increase of blood preasure and abdominal pain. For the brown recluse spider, the bite just necrose the area.
i dunno about the venom difference, but black widows are usually much smaller then brown widows, so it wouldn't suprise me if the brown widows venom was more potent. Speaking of which is anyone aware that theres a red and a white widow as well?
i have some pictures and videos of both i should upload them some time..
The white widow, is in terms a premature widow. It is the young infant of a brown or black widow, it is white with ether black or brown swirls circling it. t is more dangerous then all three breeds, as it has no control over how much venom it injects. And as with rattle snakes, the venom is more potent.
Red widows usually have a green, orange, or yellow hour-glass, as well as a unmistakable red tint to their skin.
Hence the red widow obviously. As for the potency of their venom i don't know, i have seen two, both of which were brutally murdered by my grandma strangely enough :(. She beat them with a broom. They were very large though, once i find how to DL videos from my phone to computers i will show you the video i have of one eating a "potatoe bug". It was well over the size of the one in this video, about the round-ness of a medium-sized bouncy ball and pretty dang big conpared to average sizes.

dear Duckfart77, I am sorry to say that you are mistaken. It is a Brown widow (Latrodectus geometricus), and a mature female (got 3 egg sacks before she died).
my black widow was bron out of her mom i let them mature and it turned out two be a brown widow it is know mature it was like 1 month or 2 ago and shes still alive i cant beleie abrown widow was born out of a black widow the l;ongest i kept ablackwodw in captive is about 2 years
i put a brown widow and a black widow in a baby food jar . they fought aggressively , the black prevailed winner. they both turned into a liquid in two days . the toxins broke the exoskeletons down . i wish i had videos of it to post . try it out . it was interesting . im in st pete florida . we have both here.
Don't discount the possibility that latrodectus geometricus can survive indoors in any part of the world, let alone England. It's common for spiders of all varieties to to unintentionally get exported from countries, especially in produce. If you get a female spider who has bred, then they can lay eggs in your home and you'll have them everywhere.
not really. they have a potent venom, but it's only a tenth of the streangth of a black widow. it also releases less of it. So, it's as harmless as any other house spider (most recent studies were preformed by UC Riverside Entomology Department).
I Darrensgirl. As fars as I know, there is no Latrodectus in england, at least in the wild. too cold!!! ;) it was a spider, but not a widow... if you have a picture, i'll be glad to look at it.
They're about as common in WPB as the darkies are in Georgia. Really creepy when after 3 months they still remain the same damn color. I was so confused at first. Then I finally came to accept that not all widow spiders shop at hot topic.
Come to my office building and you can have as many as you want. I first mistook them for black widows. I had never heard of brown widows, but identified their spikey egg sacks on a florida spider web site. Ironically, they are all over the nearby health department building. I caught several, but they are lightning fast. Twice as vemonous as the black widow, but inject a much smaller amount. Plus they are less aggressive.
It's like you hear their little voices. Help me!

@XtremeBordom: No, that's Bullshit!!!
the venom of a brown widow(Lactrodectus geometicus) is less potent than a black widow's(Lactrodeus mactans...)
Drecksaak 3 years ago
its actually 2x as strong as the black widows venom, but the black widow injects more venom in each bite, so the black widow is deadlier
atomsk15 3 years ago
yes, the black widow is deadlier, the brown- is not dangerous, only like a tegenaria atrica

What's the diffrence between a Black Widow and a Brown Widow? I think we have Both.
ManuelTFox 4 years ago
Depends where you are? ;)
These are two distinct species although they are from the same genous (Latrodectus) and both have a neurotoxic poison when they bite.
