Seymour looks nervously as the plant pops up with a smile that pretty much says "You know I have a grip on you." Seymour looks down, trying to think of the morally right decision. "What do I have to do?" "Just feed it." Seymour keeps stalling, as he makes a quick decision to back Mushnik into the plant. Once he sees Mushnik bending down, he realizes this may not be such a good idea. "Ummm, sir?" But it's all too late. A "What have I done look?" crosses Seymour's face.

Absolutely 100% agreed with all the comments on the bassline at 1:01. I think it's actually a bass guitar with chorus (it being the '80s) rather than a synth, but the phrasing is just perfect, twelve notes funky to the core, but suggesting the menace of the scene perfectly.

Granted, this is a comedy musical about a mutant plant, but I always thought it weird that no one seems to question what happened to Mushnik. This reminds me of a scene from the The Dark Knight, right after Batman saves Rachel at the party, and the scene just ends with the Joker still there where he could hurt people.

Am I the only one who thinks that this death feels almost deserved with how badly he treated Seymour in some parts and how money obsessed he was? If I could do one thing different about this scene I'd make Seymour scream "Daddy!" Right before Audrey II ate him since he said he was like a father to him, then MAYBE this death would make me feel sad...MAYBE.

@jsbwhite As a matter of fact, the original LSH had Mushnik be a lot nicer to Seymour, though at first it's just for the money Audrey 2 brings in. However, by the end he sincerely thinks Seymour didn't kill Orin, and only wants to take him to the police so his (Mushnik's) conscience can rest easy. To stay out of going to the police, Seymour deliberately feeds Mushnik to Audrey 2.

That's not very heroic, so in the movie they made Mushnik act even meaner and Seymour not want him to die. :)
