Last time I checked America has the largest military budget regardless of whether we are in or out of a war. At least we were vitally using the money spent. Go back to World War II, our economy boomed because we were efficiently using our military budget; hence because we were in war.

@dtpheif yeah I agree. I am a conservative and we do need to cut back on spending on a lot of things. Obama said he is cutting back on the Army and Marines and I was unhappy for that. In the future we are pushing towards unmanned vehicles and other applications but if you were to cut anything; the Coast Guard or I hate to say it but the Air Force (we already have tons of planes and armaments).

And the debt during Bush's terms was mainly from the recession and from the wars. Plus look where the wars got us: Democracy in Iraq (a major oil source), Saddam and Osama dead, and basically little resistance left. The Taliban are no longer a major threat. Mission Accomplished. All that is left is Iran and North Korea.
