  • Who conducts the Gobbi version--it's fascinating. Serafin?

  • Gobbi for interpretation, Merrill for beauty of tone.

  • Merrill suena increible y Gobbi tambien, es casi imposible elegir uno

  • Merrill wins the singing contest without question... would be interesting to watch them perform the song

  • Two great versions...although Gobbi is only one step away from shouting on anything above D natural.

Merrill had probably the most beautiful baritone voice in history!

  • signori e signore , e baritoni come :Amato,Danise,Ruffo,,Stracciari,,Granforte,Bastianini,Tibbett ,Popov,Casini e tantissimi altri , che cosa pensate per LORO ?

  • Absolutely MERRIL. I don't like Tito gobbi in this recording. He is vulgar and not perfectly tuned. Merril is a good Iago.

  • tito gobbi senza dubbio.

  • non per campanilismo..ma Gobbi lo sovrasta!

  • Tito Gobbi è Jago! Il migliore della storia!

  • One a great singing actor and the other a great very beautiful voice, heard both on stage often years ago in their primes.

  • Gobbi tutta la vita!!!!

  • I am fortunate to have seen these two great artists on stage. The venom in Gobbi's voice is electrifying in this performance; Merrill, whose voice was gorgeous, is perhaps a tiny bit less convincing as the villain. Both sing the hell out of this aria. I say, bravi!

  • The stereotypes fit: Gobbi's interpretation is better and Merrill's singing is more beautiful. But only to a degree, for there is beauty in Gobbi's singing as well, and Merrill's singing is not devoid of sentiment and interpretive skill.

  • Well put.
