There are many other articles on it do some research. Some people say that Cary Grant was ahead of Moore on Flemings list but in any case Moore was far ahead of Connery (Fleming hated Connery). The producers were the only ones who liked Connery and of course they have the final say.

Personally I think Timothy Dalton was the closest to the books tho and he is my favorite Bond actor.

You are correct Moore was Fleming's first choice as Bond, Fleming liked Moore much more than Connery and he said Connery reminded him of a stuntman (or something along those lines). Of course Moore finally got his chance to play Bond, but it was years after Fleming had died so Fleming could never witness his performance. But in my opinion Timothy Dalton is the one closest to the books, his movies are realistic and his personality is perfectly aligned with the Bond books.

Lots of people have funded aparthide without even knowing they were doing it, for example if you had an account with Barclays Bank back in the 80's that in itself was funding it because Barclays had an investment in the regime, maybe Roger Moore did fund it, but I doubt very much if he would have done it in full knowledge of what he was supporting, I can't condem someone for something that wasn't done deliberately, I think Roger was and still is a good hearted soul, as well as a brilliant actor.
