If we learn anything from the Tom Baker years (besides the fact that Tom was brilliant), it's that you don't want to stay too long. Seven years in the role really wore the man down a bit. David is smart to leave before it starts to wear on him.

Besides, it's not like it's David that's dying. We'll see him all over our screens for years to come. :) And Matt will be great, I'm sure of it.
