The recoil spring assembly will always stay in the groove, when you put it back together and shoot the weapon. I had the same problem when I got mine. I took it back to the dealer who also has a glock. When the gun is new, the spring tension is so tight, it pops out only when you take it apart. It would never fire if it ever came out. It will eventually stay in when you break the gun in.
Just in case you haven't gotten a satisfactory answer yet, I have the same pistol; you have to use some force and push the guide rod hard, toward the front of the weapon or muzzle, and then the disc on the guide rod will move back just enough to allow it to fit. It does take a bit of force, so you really need to crank on it. If you have delicate fingers it may hurt a little, but you'll get used to it.
you should tell them please feel free to post constructive comments. sorry there are ignorant people every where. anything worth doing is worth doing right but some times you have to do it wrong until you learn how.
i am having a similar problem, however my recoil spring does not stay seated in the semi-circle on the barrel. Upon field strip the recoil spring consistently pop's up to the position you were showing in the beginning of the video.
Push it through the hole. Take it to someone who owns one and have them show you. I have the same gun and was a little frustrated at first to with that peice. You have the best gun made. It still fires when its not in the semi circle.
a little more intentional push on the spring will get that guide rod seated properly on the semi circle groove on the barrel. push forward on the rear end of the guide rod and pushing it downwards. you're supposed to push it in and not just "put" or "place" it "on" the barrel. no big deal, you can do it.
Funny you show this, when I first got my XD9 I had problems figuring out the spring my self. Once you figure it out, you will be fine. Hopefully someone gave you the advice that you needed.
Not that SIG is a bad gun, I love SIGs, but with Glock's reputation and known reliability and functionality....no Glock owner ever worries about springs not fitting. the guy who posted the video just isnt the brightest guy on the planet and couldnt figure out that you need to put some tension on the spring for it to sit in the correct spot. And you can find this info on this website...guy was also too lazy to look so he made his own video and made himself look stupid.
I can not believe some of the answers here. #1 if you know nothing of how a Glock works don't offer an answer, you could cause some real damage. Guns are a serious business and should not be joked over, as for the spring, just push in a lttle and down on the end at barrel at the same time goes right in
The first thing I usually get of is the spring. I hate the OEM rod. I recommend either the lasermax of wolff spring. But it's a Glock, you won't hurt it just push harder
Frontsight has a saying "any gun will do if you'll do" Your Glock is a quality weapon time for you to be as good as your weapon. When you look at the glock from a Picture still, it looks kind of plasticily. And yeah it does look like a lego. But once i heard the noise of the metal hitting either the metal rod or the desk. It felt real, and it would suck real bad if you get pistol whipped to the face.
I am in college right now. And I know nothing of guns, but I am interested once i finished and go to the marines. I also support very much the 2nd amendment with a sense personal responsiblity. where do I start?

Reginald, when you pulled the trigger what where you pointing at? It really doesn't matter if you KNOW it's not loaded it's all about maintaining safety habits. Point at something you know is SAFE to SHOOT when pull the trigger just as a matter of habit. Btw, I hate the fact that you have to pull the trigger to disassemble these. It's a violation of gun safety 101 and the gun makers should know better. I recommend always taking these apart in the field before you bring them home to clean.
Also to note. Watch out for Slide Bite on Glocks. When you fire the weapon make sure your wrist is oriented in a manner as such that the slide does not impact or pinch your skin or forearm. The cs laser does seem to help with this cause it helps force a better grip (I don't own glock but have fired a few in the local gun club).
Consult instruction manual. I used to have a glock and never had any trouble fitting the recoil spring back into place. Just go to the place you bought it from, ask them to show you.
I tried to warn you Reggie, but no......."I'm gonna go with a GLOCK, somethin' I've heard of!" In other words, "I HAVE TO BUY A NAME BRAND CAUSE I'M TOO SCARED TO TAKE ACTUAL ADVICE." Truthfully, so long as the gun is functional, it's probably not a problem. If you're really concerned, take it to a licensed gun shop that does gunsmithing and see what they can do for you.
I don't have a Glock but I do have a Springfield XD with the same floating barrel design. Mine fits easily into the lower notch but I do have to push back on the spring to drop into place. Just push harder on the spring and it should drop into place. That spring moves A LOT if you push on it. And yes, that likely does belong in the lower round notch, it does on the Springfield design.
Hey Demcad, The guide rod will go through the hole in the slide. It will fit if you just push it through. Everytime the guns fired the rod extends into that hole.
I have a Glock 19 and the spring MUST sit into the half semicircle. If you fire the gun with the spring only in the top part you can end up breaking the spring shaft and doing damage to your gun.
You have to slide the small end into the end of the barrel and then push on the spring forward until it pops into that lower semicircle seat.
A Reg, you have to push the guide rod through the hole compressing the spring. Then simotaniously push the end of the guide rod down to the half moon.
Hey Demcad, im sure you probably did this already, but have you checked out the gun laws for Michigan? You might have some restrictions you didnt have in AL.
I don't disagree at all on this comment. Crimson Trace is a very good product, and I would recommend getting them. However, Reginald (or anybody) still needs to get tuned in with regular sights. You never know when or if that laser could fail. Mine did. Also, a good flashlight, like a small SureFire, is a great thing to have at night. Light in one hand, gun in the other. Back of hand, to back of hand with thumb pressing the momentary button. Lots of practice no matter what.
I like SureFire's 6P LED light. Easy to use with a handgun, and damn bright. They're truly amazing. And no, not in the biz of selling that brand or anything else. My life has depended on it - that's why I like it.
I did not read all the comments so pardon me if you've already figured this out. On all my glocks I need to slightly depress the spring in order for it to fit in the correct location. It looked like you were trying to place it without compressing the spring a bit.
Reg, ditto on what phillychoppin said. Take your index finger and press the "button" forward to compress the spring and simultaneously press it in the half moon notch.
if i remember from my glock 26 i used to cc years ago it should touch the barrel and fit all the way down!! try different angles and push it forward hard!! the black part should poke through the hole in the end of the barrel!!
Dry fire is ok. RECOMMENDED by many who offer training with semiauto pistols. Never force anything or use a tool when none is required by the manufacturer. Learn every aspect of your weapon maintenance and operation practice, practice, practice in ever increasing difficulty because you your weapon is only as good as you are on a really bad day.
I've had numerous hours of hands-on, expensive training by one of the nation's top experts on firearms, and everything you said is spot on. The only thing (from my own stupidass experience) is that rimfire guns should not be dry fired. It will dent the top entrance to the barrel, making autoloaders jam. Said expert only covered "serious" guns...9mm and up. 380's & downward, no. That was his definition of serious handguns, not mine. Oh, revolver, 38 Special and up.
Yo DEM, you need to get one of those commercial blow torches and metal grinders. A pair of vice grips and pliers will also be needed....J/K...LOL I would go to a gun shop and get professional help.
Dude! Don't know somebody in town? Go to a gun shop... some body suggested you use a vice grip! YA , and then hit it with a hammer! Joking, of course, seek professional help man.
Hey Dem. I just took a look at my hk usp 9mm. It has a similiar design as the glock as far as the guide rod to barrel relationship. I put my guide rod on my barrel the same as you, on that first flat ledge on the barrel. It's not supposed to be complicated or hard to do. If you had to attach it to that second ledge, that would be very difficult. Besides if it functions when you fire it, it should be right.
You are doing it the right way. You don't have to get the spring onto the lower notch. A Glock is basically like an AK, if you've assembled it and it dry fires like it should, then you've done it correctly.

I'll give my opinion FWIW..I have a bit of everything and a Colt Gov't 80 in stainless. Last gun I bought was a Springfield XD 40. I've have a Glock model 22 and it's hands down my favorite gun. Why? I can have every part disassembled and put back in 5 minutes. They're super non-complicated. Plus, they're lighter, shoot damn accurate, rarely if ever jam, and the trigger feel is exceptional. It's my go to gun when I know my life could be on the line at work. That speaks volumes....
Damn man i really dont know whats wrong with it, have you talked to any of your local gun retailers or shop owners? they may be able to help you more than half the assholes on here.
it does fit into the lower recieved grove. just push down and foward (toward the front of the barrel) with the rear of the plasic guide and it will pop into place.
You dont have to baby your gun. its a GLOCK for crying out loud. Its not like smith & wesson, ruger ect. its a go to war weapon.... bad boy weapon, real gun man weapon !!!!!
You just need to press on it harder to compress the spring more. Once you have the spring in the first groove, put your thumb on the end of the spring and push forward and down.
when you put the spring in there you have to push it out towards the way the barrel is pointing then push it down, i see your just placing it on there, you have to push is down in there with some force while pushing the guide rod though the hole under the barrel.
check out your video responce, jonah70757 did an excellect job. Make sure your guide rod is all the way down ,use your thomb to push foward and press down. Have fun and be safe...
The spring doesn't contract? I'm confused. It should fit. The weapon operates fine? Hmm...unfortunately, I don't have a glock handy to check. I figure as long as it works, you're ok. There doesn't seem to be any shredding if metal?
probelly gumed up they need a good clean ....my mini 14 takes a good poo from the gas piston ...makes a gap in front then i know it needs some hard cleaning near the gas piston opening
check for black goo ...pistal has tigher tolences ..lots of things can go wrong if thier not cleaned properly
you might want to stop shooting the spring needs to sit all the way down. your going to jam or screw up your spring not that it cost all that much. but why on earth would you fire it knowing something wasnt right???
push it forward and down, the plastic piece is supposed to come out the front of the slide when you pull it back so it is intended to be pushed forward to get it in
I have a Glock 19 and mine fits down in the semicircle. With your spring being heavier maybe you need to compress the spring more? With yours sitting so hi up it may cause it to jam against the receiver.
I would bring it in to a gunsmith if I were you Demcad. It seems like something isnt retracting enough to fit the spring properly. A professional opinion is what you need at this point. blessings to you and your family over there in Flint Michigan
squez it through the hole push the guid rod down with thumb the spring will compress therod will extend through the hole then u should be able to move the rod dowm
Did you get it in yet? Prob has to be pressed and inserted. Check the manual (I have sigs not glock). BTW it looks too dry might want to add a little lube. There is a video around called how to lube a glock. Again I don't know where and how much to apply.
Need to be really careful not to over-lube! Again, as has been said, take it to a gun shop or shooting range for advice. There's also a fellow here on YouTube, MadBadVoodo, who can help, and would be glad to, if Reg wanted to PM him or send the vid. MadBadVoodo may even already be a subscriber of Reg's. =^[.]^=
Yea that's why I said for him to watch videos I knew about over lubing Glocks. Now on my Sigs you can juice them up they are all metal. I have loads of FP1over everything inside. A thin layer of course.

Damn man i really dont know whats wrong with it, have you talked to any of your local gun retailers or shop owners? they may be able to help you more than half the assholes on here.

Yea its a big deal! I would take it to a gunsmith, forget about the shops. I would also trade that Glock in for a revolver, nothing beats simplicity.

SUCKAFREEBULLYZ 1 year ago
You just need to press on it harder to compress the spring more. Once you have the spring in the first groove, put your thumb on the end of the spring and push forward and down.
nailerfx 2 years ago
when you put the spring in there you have to push it out towards the way the barrel is pointing then push it down, i see your just placing it on there, you have to push is down in there with some force while pushing the guide rod though the hole under the barrel.
neo19209 2 years ago
check out your video responce, jonah70757 did an excellect job. Make sure your guide rod is all the way down ,use your thomb to push foward and press down. Have fun and be safe...

Hmm...It looks to complicated for me, good luck with it, as for me I rather use a double edge sword that cut both ways! LOL........
mro819 2 years ago
you have to compress the spring down to make it fit its a lil tuff but it gose all the way down inside the cut out
gunnuttcx4storm 2 years ago
They're fucking with you, man. It doesn't go all the way down there,It rests on the first step. You're doing it right.
FabioCrow07770 2 years ago
The spring doesn't contract? I'm confused. It should fit. The weapon operates fine? Hmm...unfortunately, I don't have a glock handy to check. I figure as long as it works, you're ok. There doesn't seem to be any shredding if metal?

Kashmir2000is 2 years ago
that glock looks real dry. needs to be lubed.
molemanlivesagain 2 years ago
I use PB BLASTER to keep it lubed. It helps keep in clean, and isn't affected by heat.
YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH LUBE! :)
bigc028282 2 years ago
yeah you can, the more lube you have, the more dirt will tend to collect on your firearm
loxety 2 years ago
Use just enough to do the job which is very little on a glock.
loxety 2 years ago
Didn't realize you wouldn't see the funny in it. I really do use PB BLASTER. It works great, and is also a rust inhibitor and penetrates rust.
bigc028282 2 years ago
push it forward and down, the plastic piece is supposed to come out the front of the slide when you pull it back so it is intended to be pushed forward to get it in
Kingratass 2 years ago 2
Another point, I noticed your spring is silver colored. Is that the factory OEM spring? Mine is black. Aftermarket components can cause problems.
u50214 2 years ago
Yes, it's a factory one. Well, it came like this.
DEMCAD 2 years ago
Just compress the spring harder and push down.

I have a Glock 19 and mine fits down in the semicircle. With your spring being heavier maybe you need to compress the spring more? With yours sitting so hi up it may cause it to jam against the receiver.
u50214 2 years ago 3
Never even touched one, but based on this video
watch?v=3hvzgNLFSO4
looks fairly simple .. dunno .. good luck
Robert697 2 years ago
I would bring it in to a gunsmith if I were you Demcad. It seems like something isnt retracting enough to fit the spring properly. A professional opinion is what you need at this point. blessings to you and your family over there in Flint Michigan
MegaJimmy777 2 years ago
I don't know a thing about it, but there are some videos about this on youtube. Maybe one of those videos will help.
elpilotoazul 2 years ago
squez it through the hole push the guid rod down with thumb the spring will compress therod will extend through the hole then u should be able to move the rod dowm
nellynell77 2 years ago 4
Did you get it in yet? Prob has to be pressed and inserted. Check the manual (I have sigs not glock). BTW it looks too dry might want to add a little lube. There is a video around called how to lube a glock. Again I don't know where and how much to apply.
vashguud 2 years ago
@vashguud
Raycheetah 2 years ago
Yea that's why I said for him to watch videos I knew about over lubing Glocks. Now on my Sigs you can juice them up they are all metal. I have loads of FP1over everything inside. A thin layer of course.
vashguud 2 years ago
also try switching the spring around, but I can almost guarantee it just needs to be squeezed harder and tighter before trying to lock it in.
bluecat1122 2 years ago
You have to just squeeze it together more before putting it in. I've had the same problem, just pull it harder first and then clamp it down.
bluecat1122 2 years ago
