@cooper16 i can respect your opinion, and he was incredibly overly cocky, but i was actually at a gig and got to talk to him two weeks ago and he was very down to earth :P i cant agree with AA being bad and extremely generic >_< i think they're a great band and encorporate some things in they're music which set them out from the crowd XD if they didn't they wouldn't be as successful as they are :)

What do they do that sets them apart? They're only as big as they are because for some reason people don't want to hear good, original music. They just want to hear boring breakdowns, and they only want screaming if there's singing too. These are some much better/more original bands - Artifex Pereo, Closure in Moscow, Protest the Hero, Stray From the Path, This Town Needs Guns, Tides of Man, etc. Check 'em out. They're better, I promise :)

@cooper16 im a huge fan of AA, but i listen to a lot of other heavy bands as well, i think what appeals to most people is the fact that nearly anyone can find something they like in at least one of their songs, be it the trance, the cleans or the breakdowns. also from a drummers perspective, its very well crafted music, it switches up from generic blast beats and power fills. i will check out some of these bands but they won't over take AA! XD

Synth is only good in bands like The Word Alive and Drop Dead, Gorgeous. Those are the only two bands I can think of that do something original with it instead of just playing preprogrammed loops. And their breakdowns are generic, as well as the fact that they're no where near as good live. I just can't see what people find amazing in them. Then again I don't listen to stuff unless I find it to be truly original and very skillful.

@cooper16 actually, the synths are played by Ben, but since he's playing guitar he can hardly do both at once, but they're all written and done by him. Also i saw them live 2 months ago and they were just as good, if not better, live than recorded. You're probably judging by they're first tour, on which every gig was done drunk by the band XD also if you can find me a break down with 2/4 on the china with 4 consecutive triplets on the bass, i will be impressed.

If you want to hear breakdown rhythms that are legitimately complicated, listen to pretty much any song on I The Breather's album "These Are My Sins". They don't play the same breakdown that every hardcore band has used 400 times already, and that many bands continue to use (AA) because they just want to play marketable music, instead of straying off the normal path to do something different.

@cooper16 When you say the normal path, consider its their job to make music, and when they're in a genre thats already not mainstream, its even harder to make a living XD i listen to I The Breather's Forgiven, the breakdown i mentioned, commenting on the drums (being a drummer its what i notice most), i would hav to say is more interesting and complicated :P they are a good band though, i'll checking out more of them ;D i guess we'll have to agree to disagree, we have different tastes ^_^
