If he was eating an apple they wouldn't have made a big point of him telling Martha how much he hated pears. Plus in the beginning you can plainly see it's a pear on top and not an apple. This is something done for "Comedic Effect!" Ever hear of it? He eats a pear (not an apple) because it's humorously ironic. Is any one else's "common" sense tingling yet?
