  • TOM HIDDLESTON 6:52 first his sultry voice...then his presence...ahh ;) I LOVE HIM!! :D <3

  • @13mysticmeg a beautiful 30 seconds! Now skipping ahead to where he comes in next ^_^

  • If Hitler was the personification of the anti christ, Churchill was truly the Archangel sent to lead humanity to the light after the darkness.

  • Heck I just wanted too give people something too think about, if another did it I'd have defended him.

  • Time Tourism would be cool. The ability to go back into time without the ability to affect it. Only as an observer. You could go anytime, anywhere. Then again, time travel could already be done in the future so we could have tourists around us right now. Looks like a job for the foil hat.

  • A stellar performance by Albert Finney, Vanessa Redgrave and Linus Roache, and a gripping movie about one of the most influential and stalwart leaders in Human History.

  • It is not altogether an exaggeration to state that Winston Churchill, by standing up against Hitler and the scourge of Nazism, has help preserve our freedoms around the world - as we see it today. We owe him an immense debt of gratitude.

  • @marcbrillant Sad he didn't extend it too India. Don't think of me as a jerk, I agree with you but it was a little hypocritical.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Merely paraphrasing a handful of credible historians and biographers. Everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. Kindly expound on your "Sad he didn't extend it too (sic) India." statement.

  • @marcbrillant I think he was a great man, just a product of his time... and class background.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Heroes arise - with their capacity to inspire people and influence events - irregardless of time, circumstance or background. That, my Mr. Aviator fellow, is what makes them truly great and special. Eventually, with wisdom of age and more reading, I hope you will understand this particular meaning...

  • @marcbrillant I agree, the best way too say what I ment was it was his dark side, all great mjen had them and made them human. I'd have followed him too hell.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Precisely - that is what makes such men great. Despite their shortcomings, defects and imperfections (Sir Winston had lots of them and we're not blind to the facts), these very human individuals performed "super-human" feats beyond the call of duty and have reached out to and inspired others to a heroic degree. In England's (and Western Europe's) most dire moment in history, Sir Winston Churchill saved the West's cherished democracy. That much we owe him.

  • @marcbrillant Right, he was also sexist and a drunk (ok we knew that!). But it doesn't excuse them, just shows he's human. Ghandi's only major issue with India fighting in WW2 despite his anti-war views was that fact his countrymen were fighting for Democracy in Europe but not elsewhere, watch that film about him, you'd see his falt as a fool who thought all would be bright and happy.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Based on a SINGLE film you saw, you'd brand Ghandi a fool?!? Do read some MORE Mr. Aviator! Then maybe, you would not be too harsh in judging great men in history who are, as you have so fittingly said earlier, only "human." (It can also improve your spelling...)

  • @marcbrillant You think that's all I've done? I ment he thought that after freedom came he thought all people in India would live in peace with each other.

Lood don't take me too seriously, I'm a victim of discrimination and of a sort that no one cares much about so I have a low opnion of people.

I agree with you but am a cynic.

  • @marcbrillant Hitler did a HUGE amount of bad stuff but did a few good things, like the first animal rights and enviroment laws and a goverment anti-smoaking programe, but that doesn't eigther.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Please, tell us, based on your readings, what good Hitler did. We know he was a "poor" illustrator whose proportions were wrong. Sorry, I likewise do not see your point how Hitler or this thread is related to animal rights and government anti-smoking programs...

  • @marcbrillant He was a total bastard and a psycho mass-murder, but under his rule his goverment put foward the first animal rights laws in the world and he was an ardent anti-smoker who made it known. I ment that like a great man like Chruchell had his bad side even a total villain could get one or two things right.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - Ok. Point well taken -

  • @marcbrillant I ment no disrespect or anything, just wanted too say that all about greatness is not great and vise-versa. I've been in fights with modern Nazi's.

  • @TheGroundedAviator - No problem, we're cool! :-)

  • Those were the days!! When Britain was a force in the world to be reckoned with!! How times have changed.

  • Speaking as a true blue American patriot and Yankee through n through that I too cannot help but feel my Anglo Saxon roots rhythmically pulse with Rule Britannia when I listen to the great speeches of Sir Winston. God Save The Queen!

    Boston,Ma U.S.A

  • can someone tell lme who is the particular choir that sang this rendition of "Rule Britannia" ?

  • He ordrerd boming! of german cities long after germans bombed us. ie the BLITZ... you utter idiot !.. germany was bombed later in the war.The vichey navey were given chance again and again and refused ...thus we stopped them going into

    german hands

  • Hiddles!! :D

he looks sexy 2:51 XD im crazeh

    pardon but who else agrees?

I laughed a lot at 4:13 i say his butt! XD

  • the real churchill and the history books churchill are very different men

  • @BREDATOR1 the real churchill was often a very unpleasant man

  • @SocialistJustice He had his moments as he wore his heart on his sleeve, but considering he helped save us and the rest of the civilised world i will let him off......

  • @BREDATOR1 i dont mean minor temper issues- he was racist, elitist, borderline alcoholic, opposed womens right to vote bitterly, was a fanatic imperialist, advocated the mass killing of rebellious natives, was two faced and treacherous to his allies, , was militarily incompetant, ordered the bombing of german cities before hitler did and is by far overcredited with winning the war.

  • @SocialistJustice Wow ! you realy are a away with the fairies and a true Liberal...... having served time in india /africa he saw how they were behind us.He liked a drink but was always ontop of it as his PA during the war always said, and hitler tried to use this ruse like you .He had to sort out the vichey navey ,was let down by a government who left it to late in Gallipoli as norway, As for you feeling sorry for germans they were trying to kill us ..BLITZ V1/V2 (before hitler did) lol...

  • @BREDATOR1 learn history you moron. he adocated gassing rebellious natives for wanting independance and yet he was fighting ww2 for democracy and peace? he ordered the bombing of german cities early in the war whilst hitler didnt start bombing cities till late 1940 and hitler justified it by churchills orders. how exactly did i defend the germans before? v1 and v2 were late war and are irrelevant. "sorting out" the vichy navy killed hundreds and is legally a war crime.

  • @SocialistJustice Something I'd expect from a miserable socialist such as you, sir. You dare insult the greatest Briton that ever lived? Go and do us all a favour and die in a socialist fire...wait a few years and I'll build it myself.

  • @BorsBaledwyr the greatest britain that ever lived? how exactly does he earn that title? where exactly in your little rant have you proved anything i have said as being false?

  • @SocialistJustice if you don't like Sir Winston Churchill why watch a series about him, It is true he was a great man and statesman that in his own way ensured the survival of our kingdom in WWII. If you don't like that the allies won that's fine and I'll respect your opinion, but if that is the case comment on whatever socialist video you fancy go watch the Russians slaughter there people or murder the Emperor, two things I personally find abhorring but you would probably enjoy.

  • @mak34237 i wanted to watch a programme about a historical figure. i dont need to support his policies to do so you retard. you can repeat he was a great man as much as you want but without supporting evidence it just looks as pathetic as your knowledge of socialism seems to be. why exactly would i want facists to have won ww2 instead of the allies? educated yourself- stalin was not communist and his crimes are matched by the british empire anyway. executingan emperor that oppressed millions.

  • @SocialistJustice what the hell are you talking about mate? Its morons like yourself that try and justify that which should be apologized for like communism and socialism both being stains on humanity. I don't recall the when transitioning from Empire to Commonwealth us murdering our entire officer corps or the murder of our sovereign, The British Empire's deeds where a service to humanity the socialists a plague. and how exactly did the czar oppress the poeple?

  • @mak34237 stalins ussr wasnt communism fool. communism advocates direct democracy, no central goverment and worker control over industry and communal sharing, not a centralised state led by one man or a politiburo. therefore your insults towards the berlin wall falling or stalins crimes mean nothing to me. the british embire was despied by the colonials and killed millions over its history aswell as bringing famine and illiteracy to areas that once prospered.

  • @SocialistJustice I dont think the Australians, canadians, new zealanders hated the british Empire

  • @alexandertory no but the thousands of aborigines, maori and natives whom the british empire enslaved killed or segregated certainly did along with the peoples of the other british colonies

  • @SocialistJustice who cares about them anyway,,, you have to be brutal to be top dog, survival of the fittest etc... no point rolling over is there like we seem to do now under this socialist way of life,, you have to be strong and yes even un-kind... guess you wont like that tho being a communist or whatever you r.... good god if we had your way we'd be a nation of social workers clients.... I suppose the riots were because of class struggle to u,,, id of hanged the fukin lot mi self

  • the queen nowdays is symbolic of tradition and elitism over democracy even if she has no true power. the royal family however oppressed the people of britain for thousands of years, or have you never read a history book?

  • @SocialistJustice Listen to you what a hypocrite advocating democracy now are you, What do you think all democracies are now, elitists thinking they have the right to govern because there lobbyist backers throw enough money at them and say so. I monarch rules or reigns by right of a higher power and there rule cannot be questioned by that of anything less than the lord our god. And oppression define that how did the British monarchs oppress my people?

  • @mak34237 learn some history mate. the british monarchs were unelected, made serfs work as near slaves for thousands of years. caused endless wars with the people as conscripted fodder, crushed, hung, tortured any dissenters, rebellions, uprisings etc and started the whole system of rule by the wealthy and the church

  • @mak34237 how exactly is a socilaist advocating democracy hypocritical? thats what the entire ideology of socialism is dedicated to

  • @SocialistJustice Oh and you still have failed to show me how a the British monarch hinder my rights? and how they can brush aside my freedoms? They can't! I find it pitiful that you insult a family responsible for so much good, and defend socialists and communists like Marx and Stalin that executed tens of thousands of people simply for being loyal to the monarch and tradition. Are you supporting the ideal that if you don't believe what I do then you get to kill me? because that is tyranny!

  • @mak34237 You are simply a facist. you value a false god, unelected wealthy elites and warfare over peoples rights, dignity and ability to rule themselves or control their means of production and quality of life. you swear alliegience to the monarch as the nazi's swore direct alligience to hitler and you earn your pay in killing and thievery as opposed to making things of beauty or things which benefit society

  • @SocialistJustice you fail at every tern to justify your values and when you've lost you call me a fascist the monarch is not a false god they are appointed by the grace of god to rule or reign. You call me a Nazi when you support those that supported them. I swear allegiance to what the monarch stands for as a representation of everything our country stands for belief in tradition and honour. Your redoric in support of communism and socialism claiming they are what the people need is bull.

  • @mak34237 you keep saying i fail to justify my position even though i have justified it perfectly whilst your position just seems to be to make empty praises of the royals and tradition. i wrote a message telling you of both the tzars crimes and how he was despised and also on the crimes of the british royal family in the past so go back and read them fool. also how exactly are the royals responisble for so much good? what good is that then?

  • @SocialistJustice How is having a monarch against peoples rights? Is it against the rights of man to have respect for somebody and there family that are responsible for the rise of the greatest empire in the world that only fell because of politicians. Is it against my rights to value what they stand for? No I have the right to support whatever I want you comparing to me to a Nazi is hilarious. I guess your theory is when you have your back against a wall call him a Nazi.

  • @mak34237 marx never executed anyone. please actually read a history book as you seem to know less than a school child. the british empire was racist and violent. it killed millions, was hated by the natives, caused famines and only benefited the politicians, royals and big business and industry owners who control the country and therefore its size or military victories meant nothing to ordinary people.

  • @SocialistJustice COMMUNIST LOONEY ! pay some respect to a man who has kept you in a nice country you now want to abuse !. by the way most indians love britain as they now have a government ,railway system, cricket and peace......

  • @BREDATOR1 the millions of people who fought, worked and suffered through the war kept us safe from nazi's not churchill. also the indians dont love us. they had a goverment and we didnt bring them peace as we fought them in several wars, hundreds of thousands died in the partition, ww1 and ww2 as well as the indian mutiny. Also they have since fought pakistan twice, china in 1962 and terrorists/rebels to this day

  • @SocialistJustice Maybe but under churchills leadership, in that desperate time 1940 may onwards he stopped the rest of the government from capitulating to the Germans even though the situation looked impossible and through amazing speeches inspired the British people to hang on and have hope.

The indians have a government now thanks to us ,before that they had mass feuding between tribes which we helped stop.. When we gave them independance over 1 million died fighting each other!

  • @BREDATOR1 churchill didnt stop the goverment capitulating and also he was one of the main reasons we even went to war. his speeches were just nice things to hear. they didnt have a real impact on the war or peoples feelings. india wasnt tribes- learn your damn history. india had centralised and functioning goverments when we in uk were painted tribes in tiny villages. india was split into several countries. sikh, muslim and hindu led

  • @SocialistJustice You no nothing about my country..And think you are intiteled to it ,! he kept us from german slavery ,and also india /africa from hitler are you joking?.. you proved yourself wrong. as for india .we stopped the wars with..the.tribes,sikh,muslim,hindu killing each other ...

  • @BREDATOR1 firstly it's "KNOW". secondly the soldiers, workers and men and women of britain and the empire kept us from "german slavery" not a wealthy old man who spent most of the war carving up europe with stalin and the americans and refusing all german peace offers. india wasnt a bunch of fighting tribes. it was a collection of countries just like britain was and it was wealthy and independant. we fought them in brutal wars and sent their men to fight abroad in imperial wars. hardly peace

  • @BREDATOR1 I would just stop talking to0 him mate prove your point to him as I have and let the people reading the comments judge us as the bigger men, His opinion is after all irrelevant and we should treat him as we do his opinion with a due sense of irrelevance and pity in that he can't show respect to those who deserve it as demonstrated in all his comments.

  • you have failed to show any knowledge of history or the ideologies you despise. this whole argument has only made you look like a fool. You have the right to support the monarchy but they dont have the right to rule based upon the supposed favour of a god who doesnt even exist. this is 2011 not the 1200's. i told you before that the british monarchs nowdays cant "brush aside your rights" but they represent a dogmatic subservience to tradition and their far more violent ancestors

  • @SocialistJustice they have the right to rule given to them by again the lord our god and no matter what century you are in that right is still valid an in our constitution and seeing as you aren't from the United Kingdom or live here, your opinion really doesn't matter if we want to have a queen that is our prerogative and nobody but us can decide on the matter. Your opinion is irrelevant so I bid you a good day, leave British policies to the British people and sovereign thank you.

  • @mak34237 i AM from britain and live in britain and as you and bredator1 have both demonstrated an illogical subservience to tradition merely because it is expected of you rather than deserved as well as an appaling lack of knowledge in history and poltiics others who read this will only deem you to be in the right if they too are ignorant. i will no longer be reading any messages on here so all i can do is ask that you please educate yourself in true facts and real ideologies for the future

  • @SocialistJustice 'Others who read this will only deem you to be in the right if they too are ignorant.'...says it all about you, lol...people like you supporting socialism and the liberal left have undermined and gradualy destroyed this once great country , you should be ashamed.... God bless Britain and Churchill..

  • @SocialistJustice I can give you examples of governments headed by an elected official repressing people America murdering Native Americans and buying and or selling slaves. Germany Holocaust, Africa on almost the entire continent genocide, Russia murder of the czar and murder of thousands of others loyalists. Italy Fascism and the embarrassment now ect. So tell me how a monarch is worse than a an elected official no reading out of a propaganda pamphlet for an answer though!

  • @mak34237 For a start you yet again show your ignorance of what socialism, anarchism, communism etc stand for which is not mere republicanism. The nazi's, facists, most of africa etc and most of those you mentioned were dictatorships that were essentially monarchy's in all but name and mussolini was given power and supported by the italian king. The "murder" of the poor old czar as you call it was in fact an execution of a brutal monarch who started 2 wars, banned parliment and was despised

  • @SocialistJustice and you still haven't explained how the queen displays tyranny against the British people probably because its just a bunch of Marxist propaganda and bull. Try and read up on history in actual literature, not vintage socialist propaganda leaflets. The communists lost by the way remember the whole Berlin wall thing soviet union collapsed. I give you another 40 years before Russia has an Emperor or at least a king again.

  • @mak34237 you're pathetic. the tzars of russia kept its people living in feudal serfdom for thousands of years and was the last european country to release them and then it was mainly symbolic. they spent millions on lavish lifestyles and killed millions throwing rural peasants into combagt in pointless war and yet you think the russians will want them back.

  • @SocialistJustice you stick to your Marshall Stalin and Carl Marks and we'll stick to our monarchs and Statesmen, thankyou!

  • @mak34237 it shows how limited your faith in humanity is when the only choices you see are between royal tyranny or brutal dictatorships that pretend to be communist. p.s its Karl Marx.

p.p.s- "our monarchs and statesman" how exactly are wealthy elitists yours or representative of you?

  • @SocialistJustice Churchill had to ensure that the med passage was kept safe and secure or the war effort would have been sunk, the French were given their chance to either scuttle the fleet or sail it to a neutral port, they didn;t even reply, not his fault, theirs! If you think life would be any better under a republic, than you're more deluded than I thought.

  • @BorsBaledwyr it was a war crime even if it made military sense for the british. your justifications are naive though as you seem to be outraged that a sovereign nation (france) wouldnt hand its entire navy over to the control of a different country. if russia or america had demanded the royal navy be turned over to them and then sunk it brits like you would still be ranting about it hundreds of years from now.

  • It's Tom Hiddleston who was Loki in Thor!

  • Is any one familiar with the 1974 (?) version of the Gathering Storm starring Richard Burton as Winston Churchill? If anyone is, do you know if it is available anywhere? Thanks.

  • oma , th man is naked

  • is there any movie of Churchill during the actual war..this is a great movie..but its during the war that this man shined

  • whats the song called the girl listening to at 5:25

  • dude! this is awesome quality thanks for uploading!!!! ^_^

  • Blenheim, Trafalgar, Waterloo, Caen, Falaise, Arnhem. Every time when things got out of control, you British were there. I'm Dutch, I was born long after the last global conflict but I will remember Arnhem as long as I live. Thank you Winston! Thank you Great Britain! Thank you First Airborne! You could not hold the bridge but you tried at high costs and that is something we'll always remember. An impressive epitaph on a headstone of a WW 1 soldier: "He carried his bat for England"

  • @cyberprutser Falaise? Your not talking about Falaise gap are you where all the Germans tried to run for it?

  • @cyberprutser A very heart warming and touching comment. Arnhem was the ultimate in sacrifice. I am Ghanaian and also born about 8 years after the war but quite moved by all that Holland had to go through and the effort of divers nationalities to stop the Nazi war machine. The Poles, the Jews and I even know of a Doctor from Ghana who was in the action as well.

  • There was a move in my community recently, supported by a lot of teachers, to change the name of a high school named after Winston Churchill. The reasoning being that most of the students "didn't even know who he was". What has the world come to when teachers brag that their students don't know who Winston Churchill was? Next, I suppose, U.S. teachers will campaign to change the name of schools named after Abraham Lincoln.

  • hbo made the gathering storm, than into the storm (i may be wrong about the order) so is there another hbo feature about sir winston churchill?

  • @spiderlime The follow up film you mention unfortunatly doesn,t star Albert finney, and somehow doesn;t have the attention to detail or atmosphere that this brilliant film does. shame.. still welldone HBO for making them.

  • @BREDATOR1 I couldn't agree more, I didn't like the sequel as much as not only did they replace the awesome Albert Finney but all the other actors aswell. And I love the fact tthat Ronnie Barker plays the butler, even if it is a serious part, I still laugh every time he says ''Yes,sir'' lol

  • @JackieJossaFan Thanks, this film changed my life, a wonderfull appreciation of old England and a very special person ,who saved us! , Churchill was "meant to be" and he saved us, Europe and The Americas...God bless him...

  • Winston would turn in his grave if he could see how modern day politicians have allowed the EU to run roughshod over the U.K.

  • The mister and missus do not sleep together...how queer...how british!

Further, doesn't Winston wake up every morn with a good shot of whiskey to stave off the tremor?

  • @Houseofthe7gayboys I thought he woke up with a good shot of whiskey cause it beats the hell out of a poor shot of rot gut

  • I love albert !! nice to see him naked!!

  • I've wanted to see this for a while...and found it by chance........thank you for your upload! Bit of British history....thanks x

  • "I've lived too long, I'm in the ruck.

I've drunk too deeply of the cup.

I cannot spend, I cannot fuck,

I'm down and out, I'm buggered up"

    Great quote!

  • Came to see Marlborough, voted 5.

  • Winston Churchill was a magnificent leader: as writer, as Prime Minister and as a man. Good bless his soul.

  • England forever!

  • prussia23 greetings from Lima, Perú. I'm peruvian, but the redcoat scene with the beauty version of Rule Britannia also gives me a feeling of exultation. It's because that scene expresses the true grit & sacrifice of soldiers, not only of Great Britain, of course, but also of every country when fight for justice & against the tyrannies. :-D

I also think this film ought to be used in scools, BUT AFTER DELETING OF THE FILM ALL THE CHURCHILL'S BUTTOCKS & URINATING SCENES, OF COURSE!!!!!

  • @musicaenlaniebla could not agree more , its symbolises a lot.

If its the redcoats in 1704 against the tyranny of Lois XIV or Hitler in 1940 same principles different age.

  • I believe the car is Daimler 4 1/2 straight 8 Limousine although I am not a car expert!

  • Does anyone know what the make of car is? I thought it might be a Bently.

    Cheers,

  • this film should be used in schools in uk to show how they should be proud of our country history and its remarkable people who helped it during it lows times ,and it will make them proud of there british history and us brits wil stand up to anyone who dares to take or thret our freedom , we dont have to have an empire to be strong!

  • @jamiewhittle (Chuckling) but alas, if they did, the poor kids taking the test would hear that speech.....and the only mental picture would be of a bare assed Albert Finney, with (at 4:34) a nice view of Mr. Happy!!)

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best war movie I've ever ever seen

  • This has to be one of my favorate films. It's brilliantly done, very movig at times, and with plenty of humor. I think Albert Finney's Churchill is the best in modern televison, and I love the late Ronnie Barker playing his butler.

  • That's Ronnie Barker? I didn't even recognize him! I used to enjoy "The Two Ronnies" on the CBC Saturday Nights back in the late '70s.

  • Our British frefathers in action - 3.16 - 3.54 ......The whole aura of Britannia and her might and traditions. It makes the hair on my neck stand on end!!

Us colonials might be far away, but many of us are still proud of our distant, but important heritage.

Rule Britannia. Greetings from South Africa.

  • That should be "KBO" Films if its about Churchill!

  • Hmm this is something for me to download! Thank God for Brittain, Churchill and Torrents!

  • look at 0524 it's jim hackers wife annie brilliant....

  • What is the music piece during the battle itself

  • @DarthSaladin The music during the battle at the beginning is: Rule Britannia . (might not have spelt that right)

  • Actually, he didn't like bacon and eggs for breakfast, but would have some cold fish or meat

  • I think this was a great production and Albert Finney was great at the role. Winston Spencer Churchill was a complex man with many flaws but he was absolutely right about military action against the third reich. He was truly one of the towering figures of the twentieth century. We shouldn't be too hard on pacifists of the 30s though. With the trenches still in mind, their stance was understandable.

  • Seems you can see the forest and the trees.

  • The scene where Winston remembers Marlborough at Blenheim somehow gives me a shiver of patriotism.

    Long live the United Kingdom.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1

Winston Churchill is the descendant of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough.

  • @PhilipineMan

    True.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1

Churchill was a true British hero. Makes me just want to punch your last two PMs square in the nuts. I guess Blaire was alright, but if that coward after him was in during WW2, you would be a kraut.

  • @TaqiyyaExposer as a labour voter i'm desperately trying to find a fault in your logic but i find I have nothing to say...* weeps silently*

  • @pithie84 I stopped reading after 'as a labour voter'

  • @PrestonNorthEndFan , ohhh did you stop reading, well let me tell you how it went then. " As a labour voter I am in the belief that PrestonNorthEndFan is a fucking cunt and should be burned alive along with his whole inbred family", thats why you should always read to the end.

  • @pithie84 Troll 1-0 Pithie84

  • @pithie84

as a labour voter you bare part of the responsibilty for the rape of our country

  • actually I wasnt old enough to vote until the last election were labour lost, so i'm responsible for nothing, and I don't believe the country has been raped either. I for one like the new peace in N. ireland and minimum wage, both of which never existed before hand even though the tories had 18 years to get it right. and if your reffering the financial state, you might find that was a global problem that effecting a lot of countries besides this one. please don't reply to the comment - continued

  • @VigisKane as I have no interest in getting into a debate with you.

  • @TaqiyyaExposer

Well I don't know how to to respond to that. Tony Blair had many flaws but nevertheless defined his generation. Gordon Brown will not rank among the 'great' PMs but he was not a coward. I don't believe that any man who steps onto the world stage is- not entirely anyway. Neither were on level with Churchill but Churchill too had his 'skeletons in the closet' As for 'krauts' WW2 was WW2, the Allies were morally right but this is 2010 and I have German friends.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1

Then perhaps you should have responded like the guy above you :)

Remember, everyone is morally right in a war, and everyone is morally wrong. In my opinion the only way someone can be wrong during a war, is by not supporting their team, that even goes for the Germans and Japs. People these days are too seditious, it doesn't matter the circumstance, there are two sides to every story, however, if the peoples hearts aren't in the fight, they will lose. Churchill knew this.

  • @TaqiyyaExposer

I respond with exactly whats on my mind. Firstly its important to remember that WW2 was an exceptional conflict in terms of its impact on the domestic psyche so parallels with contempory conflicts are probably not appropriate. I'm in loose agreement with some of your points but the idea of 'the only way someone can be wrong during a conflict is by not supporting their team' is beyond crap. I care about my country a lot but I will not slavishly defend our foreign policy for the

  • sake of it. Honesty is as important to me as patriotism, so if I think our foreign policy is wrong or a particular campaign is wrong I will say so. Some say that is cowardice or treason; I say it is precisely because I care about my countrie's reputation that I would feel the need to speak out. There were Germans who stood up to Hitlerism, often with significant personal risk and as far as im concerned they done more for their country than that regime did. We see it today with brave Iranians

  • cont... standing up to the Khamenei-Ahmadinejad regime. They have been called traitors and risked torture but they realise their country cannot continue in the path its on. If Britain were ever (god forbid) to get a demagogue like Hitler or Ahmadinejad I would consider it my patriotic duty to oppose them even if it made me unpopular. There are British conflicts I believe were justified, others not so.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1

I disagree, Iran is facing a different problem. For starters, their regime has no hope, if their president had perhaps majority support like Hitler or Churchill did, and if he had even a faint chance of winning the wars that he promotes and threatens us with, then his people would be patriotic to support him. But it is different, he has not traditional authority, probable ability or majority support, so he deserves to be overthrown, hopefully by something better.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 Amen to that my friend !

As an American I'm fascinated that the redneck hicks that reside in the south someone descended from you guys. Complete opposites

  • love the entire redcoat scene, makes one proud to be British.

  • @prussia23 It makes me proud and I'm not even British! :-D A fine film. Of the first rank.

  • @prussia23 Mixed feelings from America.....nasty cultural memories of 1775-84, unfortunately....but on the other hand, movie made up for it by showing Spitfires giving Hitler hell and keeping his dirty paws off the last bastion of freedom in Europe. (Raising glass to heaven) Great job, boys. You did the whole world proud, your grandkids revere you. And while you are up there, say hello to my G.I .grandfather, Hugh, and tell him I miss him.

  • @prussia23 Absolutely. I imagine the colonists from the 51 states of the British Empire ("America") are very jealous of us!

  • @prussia23 who the followings scene in which he is shown totally naked takes all the fun away!

  • @prussia23 im american so the redcoat brings back other memories XD

u guys sure put up a fight during WW2..God knows how much London got bombed..just started finding out about Churchill and i can tell all ready that he was a extraordinary man..cant wait to read more about him, if you want to be intelligent, you got to learn from the best lol

  • That's a quite remarkable film, which truly carries the importance of Winston Churchill not only for Britain itself, but for the entire world, as one of the head-saviors from that bloody regime Hitler was running in Nazi Germany.

    Albert Finney is absolutely great!
