it means something like "but we are not discouraged, we don't like to cry but go on laughing"... well, my japanese really sucks^^ but "susume" means to go on, advance...

I forgot to mention, but Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima is also an anime movie, in color, from 1967.

Also, I think 'Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima' translates to something like 'Surprising Island of Contradiction'. Haha, not a very good translation on my part, but I think you get the picture that Hyokkori Hyoutan Jima is a weird and/or dangerous island filled with adventures!

The song title is actually the show's name, but I haven't been able to find out much else about it. '60s... puppets... black and white... for kids... that's all I know.
