  • its a shame they sound so much like tool, but there still isn't one isis song i can't get enough of.

  • THIS IS THE BEST SHIT EVER FUCK YEAH

  • soooo i totally lost my virginity to Isis

  • I think the live version of this from Clearing The Eye sounds much better. So much thicker, more dense. More powerful. Not that this isn't already amazing.

  • makes me wanna kitesurf with 35 knots.....

  • (ړײ)

  • by the way i absolutely LOVE the guitars in this song.

    Very melodic

  • yo dudes. I really want some sludgy music to listen to. But I don't really like the screamo-style growling or grunting in most metal. And the opera shit in 'power metal' like hammerfall or dragonforce is just gay. Is there any stuff LIKE this but with good vocals? reference point-the sky is fallin' by qotsa

  • @DanieLatzanich Check out Neurosis if you haven't already. ;)

  • @SingsLikeACree1 thanks dude

I knew they were connected to Isis--they do still yell a lot but it's kind of in the background. But I still think I'll get Oceania and Panopticon.

because that guitar sound is just orgasmic

  • @SingsLikeACree1 Given to the Rising is amazing.

    Thanks :)

  • @DanieLatzanich Cult of Luna, and Dirge (their album, "Wings of Lead Over Dormant Seas" is one of the best post-metal albums ever! Especially the title track.)

  • It's 4/4 think there may well be 1 extra beat on the end of some of the bars making it 5/4 that could be whats throwing you.

  • Can we stop comparing shit ?? What are we, 12 ? Grow up.

  • Is it me or this song has a 7/8 time signature.

  • @MrTerribleLie I think it's just you.

  • @davethehostage that's what I thought.

  • You shouldn't be ashamed if you listen to metalcore and Isis at the same time. All music is good in it's own right.

  • Pure, raw, fascinating, beautiful might of sound.

  • this band makes this cruel planet a liveable place ..

you people are beautiful minds :)

  • this was the first song i ever heard by isis, when my alarm woke me up with the college radio station playing this song my first week of classes and made me a fan ever since. they also closed with it the last time i saw them live. the beginning and the end.

  • The heartbreaking riff around 4:15 makes me think the guitar's husband maybe jumped off a cliff to his death and so the strings are crying. Who will ever love her the same way?

  • @And8But lol amazingly put

  • I played this song at my school today. Bastards didn't know what hit them.

  • this whole album is the best music for those who can't sleep, its actually really soothing (for me anyway)

  • It's six in the morning -_-. JUST ONE MORE.

  • All metal music has its artistic merits...some is just better.

  • @DiscoRByrno I love metal, but yes, there is.

  • Isis purified my head from shitty music

  • Opeth = Shit

  • @Decardioide They're different from Isis, but they're nowhere near "shit."

  • @Decardioide Thanks for your insignificant opinion that only clarified the fact that you will miss out on a large area of (according to me and many others) awesome music.

  • @XQriousX Opeth awesome music? Maybe the first 2 album, now they are ridiculous. Isis got loose with dignity at least making a really unrated music genre that in 2011 not work anymore, such us prog metal.

    ISIS>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Opeth, Dream Theater, POS.

  • @Decardioide I think Opeth is awesome, both the old and new stuff. They haven't become commercial and boring despite their large fanbase, and their sound is getting more and more mature with each album, which ISIS sadly can't, since they broke up. I love and respect both bands for their musical accomplishments, and I don't compare them, since both are unique. You obviously dislike Opeth, so let's just agree to disagree.

  • @Decardioide Very true.... but of course Neurosis>Isis.....

  • @bosshallucy but tool>all is final

  • @stinkfist93420 .... I love tool.. but its been 10 years since they produced anything interesting...

  • @bosshallucy really? rossetta stoned and the pot numbed my face.

  • @stinkfist93420 10,000 Days was a decent album.. but for Tool it was kinda ...meh.

  • @bosshallucy i agree 10k days was a step down from lateralus simply because the vocals aren't what they used to be.

  • @stinkfist93420 ...true. I'll admit thhough a mediocre tool album is still rock solid.. its just that Aenima and Lateralus were mind-blowing when they came out.. I remember seeing tool live back in 96-98 era.. was unlike anything I'd seen (until I saw Neurosis.... they have that same fire and intesity)..

  • @bosshallucy du.mba.ss!

  • @jeromed2 ??

  • @stinkfist93420 su.ck it loser

  • @bosshallucy I've got to agree, when it comes to atmospheric music Neurosis seems just a bit better than all the others, but I find myself listening to Isis more often. I think it's cause it's easier to get into an Isis album and be forced out of it by the flow of the day as opposed to Neurosis.

  • grea grea great band

    respect

  • 7 people saw their families drown at sea.

  • before isis, i thought good metal was slipknot lol..

  • @ivetteliza1 lmao slipknot.....

  • @ivetteliza1 lmao slipknot almost as bad is insane clown faggots

  • @alienation69 uh?

  • @gothikgamer LOL BRO!!

  • @ivetteliza1 Bah, Slipknot is good too. I listen to Slipknot when I'm in the mood for pop.

  • @ivetteliza1 ghost brigade, vildhjarta, give those a try ^^

  • @ivetteliza1 I still like Slipknot and Isis, I think they're both good but I'm not going to compare the two.

  • @DrtyLittleRockStar Yeah it wouldnt be wise to compare them...

  • epic. first time listening...

  • one of their best song.

Love this band and i agree with eggy77 they helped change my view of metal.

  • 7 people don't like 'The Beginning and the End' by Isis

  • @rrippp i applaud your non-judgemental views on those people..i thought i was the only one that did not claim nationalistic views for anything

  • @dgerke08 Ah, I can be judgemental too, but I guess I try not to be... I was just poking fun at the usual obligatory and predictable fan-boy stuff that goes on where someone has to say "97 people prefer fucking donkeys"... Plus I didn't always like Isis, and it took time, so if someone doesn't like this from the first time they hear it, I can't say they have bad taste.

  • i remember when they were good. i love this record

  • !!!

  • i was exited by he song until he started "singing".It is very disapointing such a great music to be compined with Vomitical vocals

  • @kickHimwheNisdoWn it was my reaction when I first heard of them as well. It takes some getting used to in order to appreciate it but in the end I figured there's plenty bands out there with softer vocals, and this one stands out with these. Also, they add a distinct percussive quality to the whole thing imho :) Try Panopticon, it has a slightly lighter feel to it :)

  • @kickHimwheNisdoWn Welcome to the progressive world.

  • @kickHimwheNisdoWn umm, it's to create emotion

  • @kickHimwheNisdoWn i actually really like the singing. just keep listening to it. it will grow on you

  • Is it me, or is there just something about ISIS songs? I've dabled in all sorts of styles and bands, and never in all my life have I ever been completly entranced by a song before; until now. It's a shame they broke up, but I'm sure their works will be around for a long while. :D

  • @Heartburn991 I felt this way about Oceansize. Look up Massive Bereavement :)

  • This is what he'd always known,

the promise of something greater beyond the water's final horizon

  • The last song they ever played as a band on stage. Well and truly something more than music.

  • good instrumental parts, but the vocals are really awful. A true death growl or even a black metal shriek would be better than these terrible screams.

  • @axzck why would he need to sound that cartoonish ?

  • @frostybob123 I don't fund just do some Bad Screaming and calling it "Vocal" original at all.

  • @axzck which could of course be said about death and black metal vocals too

  • @axzck I think the vocals sound great, and I am a fan of both traditional death and black metal vocals. These are more in line with hardcore shouts/growls, and theyre better suited for the emotive music ISIS created. They have a decidedly 'defeated' sound, as if the man is truly struggling for survival/catharsis, so they do not have the 'empowered' delivery associated with black/death metal. Also, many have noted that ISIS's vocals serve as added texture to the songs rather than as a focal point

  • @matternicuss Definitely agree. There's a difference between a NNOOOOOO kind of scream and a GRAAAWR kind of scream. It's kind of difficult to describe. It's almost like he's pleading.

  • @mcgibs yeah Aaron's vocals are more nuanced than your typical metal band's. They suit the atmosphere perfectly. As much as I like well delivered death growls, they would not mesh well here.

  • amazing :]

  • I have digested this album on the beach while on some kind shrooms. Highly recommended, it was beautiful and humbling.

  • large doses of Xanax and Isis. Like peanut butterr and jelly.

  • Never heard to much atmospheric sludge, but DAMN

this makes me wanna just fall away from the world and trip

  • nice song, thanks Isis for great music

  • ...well i think Aaron Turner's vocals fit ISIS really well and i think he sounds great, growling or not :)

  • why cant people hear a new song or band without comparing it to something theyve already heard ???

  • This was the first Isis track I heard, changed my outlook on music forever, long gone are the days of listening to bands like Killswitch Engage and Chimaira.

  • @eggy77 This was also the first Isis song id ever heard and it inspired me to pick up a guitar and create real music

  • @eggy77 Respect!

  • @eggy77 it's funny isn't it? For the most part you enter listening to things like korn, but then you find out who inspired bands like those and then you just don't want to go back to such vapid music that doesn't do anything to further music. For me i went in listening to bands like Korn and other acts, now i'm listening to John Zorn, Mike Patton, Trey Suprnance, Trevor Dunn, Melvins, Tool, and MOTHERFUCKING ISIS!

  • @dommer117

You should try Opeth as well.

  • @theruiner89 oh. i have.

  • @dommer117 Yeah, too true. Tastes change quite fast if you keep on searching for new music. I distinctly remember KoRn's ex-guitarist saying something about the band ripping off the "Mr Bungle chord". That was the moment I left KoRn for Mr. Bungle, so to speak.

  • @eggy77 Sounds like you made the right choice.

  • @eggy77 Isis and Mastodon share one thing. Well, a lot of things but I just wanted to point out that both of them have a 5 out of 5 stars album in Allrovi. Oceanic and Leviathan, respectively.

  • @eggy77 I still find those bands material I use to listen to tolerable, only out of nostalgia. Listening to new stuff by them is just like dragging nails. I've long left those days, but had yet to listen to Isis. This isn't bad, but I prefer other atmospheric sludge I've heard (e.g. Rosetta - The Galilean Satellites). Like most things though, I'll definitely give this another chance since I enjoyed it the first time. I've heard from someone who I trust, they "jumped off a cliff" after this album

  • @eggy77 Chimaira is as close to Killswitch Engage as Pink Floyd is to The Beatles.

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX tools already good but they have songs where they sing

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX when I first heard Isis I tried comparing them to tool, then I realized I was wrong and stupid.

  • @1dotonly - I didn't say they sound like TOOL. They are both Prog. but they are a bit different from each other (although not completely different - I'm sure TOOL is their main influence). I don't like that much the Death influence on Issis. They need a bit of Led Zeppelin influence. I'm sure that Serj Tankian would do them a favour, but sure if he tries to imitate Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. Otherwise i really enjoy Issis. And I'm a TOOL die Hard fan.

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX what on earth makes you think tool would be their main influence?!

  • @Kymatose Just listen to both bands and you will find out.

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX

Isis is closer to Slint than Tool.

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX This conversation makes me facepalm vigorously...

  • people need to stop trying to tell bands what they "should do" in order to sound how a person thinks they should, bands will sound exactly as they please and it is absolutely not open for discussion.

  • @1dotonly agreed..i think they sound nothing like Tool at all

  • @XmXeXnXtXoXrX HAHAHA

  • Panopticon was the most amazing thing they did in their miserable lives.

  • @samirsadixov 1 moron can't be original.

  • If anyone has a mp3 to their debut cd Mosquito Control, let me know cause i seamed to miss placed it and its pretty epic

  • ISIS is the only rock band I know where they can have the word 'teetered' in their lyrics and I would be absolutely fine with it.

  • Those who like ISI, also check out:

Mouth of the Architect - Baobab (1:46 in)

  • 1:27

  • best song ever... when I die they have to play this on my funderal.

  • @KEVXEDGE Too bad they broke up.

  • @adivinemartyr I'm sure they will get back again.

  • well well beauty gets critized, cause you know no beauty... seen these guys 14 years ago before they where anybody in burlington vt. and have been in love ever since... stop your bitchin and sit back alone and enbrace the sound.... hail isis

  • Great song. I like their live version on 3.19.03 even better.

  • the vocals are good and suit the music, what's wrong with you stupid cunts

  • Stunning band ruined by a mediocre vocalist.

  • vocals are perfect

  • @thevoid330 yeahhh....no

  • this right here is baby making music

  • oceanic always has been my fav isis album i have no idea why it always puts me in a trance

  • they will be missed.

  • Epic

  • anyone else feel like it would be better with a tool style vocals instead of screaming? just doesnt feel right with the music

  • @peevag14 OMG its theyr stile dont even ever try to change it!!!

  • @peevag14 GAY!! I mean TOOL has their place in history, I personally think Aenima is a classic album, but this is something even more organic than that. You cannot change one thing, or it would collapse, and I would rather have them disband...and they did....and for that I applaud them. No compromise, this is who they are/were...and nothing else...

  • @mjrtoo isis more organic than tool? NOOBALERT

  • @2323jgrant Lol, yeah...n00b, that's me. A 40 year old n00b that's been listening to all sorts of music before you were even born...most likely. Someday you'll have a clue.

  • @mjrtoo lol just fuckin with ya dude. to each his own.

  • tool are great, but all you know is your perception of organic. And using the word organic in music doesn't even have a refined definition.

  • @peevag14 i kinda agree with you, but that would take the originality out of the music

i still like tool more of course :p

  • @peevag14 dude if maynard was the vocalist for this band...2nd best band in the world.. behind tool ;D

  • .....no.

  • I was afraid that I would be the only person who listened to Isis after they disbanded, that everyone else would move on to newer stuff. Glad to see I'm wrong.

  • "the promise of something greater"....one of my fav lines ever in a song....and it matches the song perfectly

  • I saw them last year. I'm usually more into metal but their concert blew me away. so much emotion in that performance. the musicians were really into it. and I got my cd signed by Aaron Turner. he's a cool guy :D . too bad they disbanded (does that word exist ?) :(

  • @maggotfrom1993 They are metal

  • best band in years, best song ever

  • Astonishing album and flawless all the way through like an ocean filled with fine wine, taking you where it will.. And what a song to open it up with !! It's so beautiful and awesome in so many ways. This album speaks LOUDLY of the trials and tribulations of life...like drifting through an ocean with all it's cataclysms, calmness, and everything in between that you never knew was possible- etc. This album is true art from the soul in it's purest form.

    Sheer Beauty.

  • This is the last song they will ever play live.

  • @ThisSaturatedMind you're right about that. i was at the final show in montreal and this was the final song. words cant explain how amazing of an experience it was...

  • @represent93 fitting tune for the end of a career...and the beginning of history.

  • Fucking epic..

  • Man, when I saw these guys in D.C this was the last song they played. It was amazing. Best Concert I've ever been too.

  • I'm so pissed off they're breaking up, I had to miss their final show in my area FUCK

  • Comment removed

  • now I can go to bed :P

  • @chemicalkapu

    forever

  • listen to this after a big change in my life

  • han roto

  • it's too bad they just broke up

  • All time fave song

  • Comment removed

  • i think the european scene is better..Long Distance Calling (Ger), Klimt1918 (Ita), Novembre (Ita), ...

  • God is an astronaut is my favourite European post-rock band, but Isis are better in my opinion. And this album is their masterpiece, this is where it starts, Carry is where it peaks and Hymn is where it ends. Those are the 3 best songs of the album, though weight is pretty close with the awesome female vocals.

  • @ffsnametaken yeah, i love god is an astronaut but i have to agree...isis brought me to god is an astronaut. :b

  • @sudherthaner

As much as I love those bands, they have nothing on the American or Canadian scenes.

  • awsome

  • This is fucking better than Beethovens beat your hoven symphony...jesus christ

  • Anything that is influenced by Neurosis is mind blowing music, The Ocean, Isis, Pelican, Mastodon, Minsk, Burst, Gojira to name a few...

  • yeah neurosis really tapped into something...indescribable. just awesome music.

  • i am a fan of everyone of those bands...crazy!!!

  • @TheMiridian woo someone else has heard burst :D

  • @GSratm Yes another brilliant band no longer with us :(.... Burst's Lazarus Bird.. What a way to go out..

  • epic heavy

  • 4:49.... like a ton of fucking bricks.... *chills*

  • lol, this is the first isis song i listened to, and im already hooked

  • Jesssssus christ, that opening drum kick causes the greatest of orgasms every time i hear it... Thankyou Aaron Harris + Isis.

  • i do my homework to this, amazing album.

  • I know what you mean. They say listen to Mozart or Beethoven--nope, Isis. I've written the best essay's of my life listen to this album.

  • lol same

im doing math homework right now

  • @avyion13 lol I just turned this on for something to listen to while studying for my calc exam and saw your comment :)
