  • @ChowAtTheY I suppose 4 years in the Marine Corps wouldn't count in your book....

  • What track did you record first? I'm recording and we did drums first to set a tempo/give a base

  • @BurntTreeProduct Hey friend, we always put scratch acoustic guitar take down first to a click track and then I put the drums over that. Then we just fill in final takes on all instruments thereafter and edit away! I hope that helps...

  • Hey turquoiseguy, Yes that is a ride on top of a ride. Good eye bro! I have a real heavy Paiste ride with a huge bell that is good to cut thru the heavier mixes. The other is a real thin ride that can be used for a washy or thin sound for our lighter grooves, almost a crash/ride. Ive been checking out your covers, nice job dude!

    Chris

    Ivanrest

  • thanks man!

  • hey btw at 1:36 is that one ride on top of another? just wondering cause it looked kinda weird lol

  • Hey Bill,

what effect are you running on the vocals at 2:13

  • Hey Keith, you're hearing a lot of reverb, a little delay and the usual equalization and compression. So nothing too out of the ordinary. Most vocals have all of those things on them. Hope that helps!

  • Bill,

I'm jealous - best of luck

  • You guys are so pro, 5 stars from me too!

When you tour UK let me know lol!

  • Hey Bill!

Sorry i am late replying, i have been busy lately so i am catching up.

Its always really cool, to see behind the scenes stuff, mainly because i don't know what it is like.

    It looks really fun!!!

And WOW! You have a voice. It is the first time i have heard you speak lol.

Wishing you all the best Buddy!

    -Dan.

  • Hey Dan! No you aren't late at all! I am glad you are catching up, though. I have to do the same thing sometimes if I am off for a week or so. I assure you I will post some more behind the scenes and there will even be interviews with me...I'll even face the camera...haha! I know...it was my first appearance...had to break the ice at some point! Have a good weekend, Dan!

    Bill

  • nice playing! awesome studio as well!

  • Thanks Kenny! I appreciate the 5 stars too!

  • thanks but how did you know i rated it 5 stars?

  • well, I just guessed! There were 18 stars before you commented and 19 after...and the average rating went from 4.76 to 4.79...so I knew you must have clicked 5. Thanks!

  • haha wow sounds complicated lol. well, np, the video deserved 6 (if only that was possible) :). Anways, i love the studio. Looks like a lot of fun to play around with all that stuff. I have that studio program Acid Music, but i have nothing good to record with.

  • Ha, well that'd be great if you could get more than 5 stars! It is fun to play in the studio. Acid is a great place to start. For many years I was using an all-in-one device made by Yamaha until I just started adding on...and adding on... (but in the video you see both my studio and Chris' studio, so it's not all one place)

  • well, nevertheless, you got some fancy equipment. some nice professional mics and mixers and everything. it sounds amazing!

  • wow great job guys!

is this your "home recording" setup??

  • Thanks Chester! Indeed, this is our "home studios." I have a studio and so does our bassist (Chris). This is the only song we tracked drums on his set and they came out great! We usually do bass at his studio and other stuff at my studio.

  • Hey Bill, great vid, I love watching bands in the studio. That's some fancy equipment you guys have too, having good sound is so important. I got your CD last week, I'm not sure if you got the message I sent. I love it, and it sounds even better when there's no visual distractions; I can just focus on the music. Hope I worded that properly.

  • Ken, thanks! Glad you liked the video. I'm sorry, it took me awhile to get around to your message but I just sent it. See if it's there...take care!

  • good stuff bro. preciate the look inside the studio. you guys keep doing your thang for Jesus. it's great

  • for some reason it said i rated the vid 1 star. lol. i rated it a 5..go figure. didn't want you to think i did it on purposed

  • haha, I believe you Stan! YouTube is so screwy sometimes...disappointing for such a popular site. But thank you for the comment. I'm glad that people like a little look behind the scenes. It's always fun. I have a "Meet Ivanrest" video I'm working on, so hopefully it will make you laugh. take care friend!

  • Great work Bill!

  • thanks for checking it out! Glad you like it.

  • Nice Job on the video! The sound is amazing! I guess my opinion can't count because I am the bass player but I just want to say that I will never forget these days. Bill in the next few months when you're many miles away I can watch this and remember all the fun! Thanks for making all of these videos.

    Chris

  • Chris! Nice to see you on here...you are quite welcome. Thanks for giving me audio and footage to make video of! It has been a good run, but hopefully vacations will yield more music and good times!

  • thanks Tyler, I have a few more videos from the studio I will put together...I guess people like it...

  • great video. i almost died at 2:40. I could u and your band laughing about that later.

    great song

    jake

  • Thanks Jake! Yeah, we have lots of screw-ups... my hard drive is full of embarrassing moments!

  • Hey! Nice video, fun to see you guys recording. Btw, big studio in the basement :) haha, at 2:41 :D

Dogs at the end of video are yours? nice huskies :) take care!

  • Jerry! Yes, it was so much fun to put that album together. Yeah, these are scenes from both the bassist's studio and mine...so two different ones... Yes, those are my huskies. They are a lot of fun. Lately they won't let me play drums, they just bark at me to stop until I do.

  • Wow. Great ! Keep it up this is great .

  • Thanks Kristaps! I will get back to your e-mail soon...summer is going well, just incredibly busy. I hope you are well too.

  • Great video Bill,love behind the scenes on bands,very nice studio,yall r blessed..5*

  • Thank you, David! Yeah, it's a combination of my studio and Chris' (bassist) so we get the job done between the two of us. This is the only song I played on his drums for on the CD.

  • congragulations, we hope that happens to us soon.

  • Thank you, I'm sure it will. You guys have a good thing going.

  • Cool Bill, great shots of you in the Studio. The Band and Drums sound wicked ~8^)

    TDM

  • Hey TDM! Thanks a lot! I've got a few more "in the studio" videos. they are always fun to put together. I'll have 'em out soon hopefully. Thanks for the 5 stars!

  • Nice one, those are the best tom sounds, just ring forever. Amazing how the vocals sound almost unusable at times, but a lot can be fixed. Yeah, bout time the drummer got more screen time.

  • Thanks Dean, those are Chris' toms, not even mine!! He's using 57s on them and I could NOT ask for a better sound. So much for all of these people putting Neumanns on toms...unnecessary if you ask me. Ha, yeah, I'll get some more screen time in the next video we did...it's kind of funny...you'll see.

  • They sounded just like your yammies, must be same processing & tuning, way u hit them. hell of a space he's got there, really nice.

  • Yeah, he sold some motorcycles, took some loans and went "all in"!!! haha. Yeah, I guess I just have a tom sound in mind and try to get as close to it as possible. Those are coated Evans G2 heads, so their close to mine but still quite different.

  • Nice.... great vid

  • Autotune on the vocals...why?

  • because it CAN be used tastefully.

  • You're right actually. I only really noticed it when the vocals were solo'd. Definitely agree with you though. =]

  • thanks! glad you liked it! take care.

  • Haha wow!

    That was awesome

It was fun to see the whole studio

    Lol nice stick droppin' Bill

Haha I do it ALL the time so it's all good

This is a great song, and it was real awesome watchin how you guys make it

Lol liked the dogs barkin too!

  • Hey Dan! Glad you enjoyed the video. Ha, yeah, I was on a roll too...fortunately you can just punch in with Pro Tools and pick up where you left off! Well, if you liked this video I have many more clips from the making of our recent album. Hopefully you'll enjoy those too.

  • Hey Bill!

You guys had a very sweet set up in there.

What kind of mixer is that?

Great video by the way, looks like it was loads of fun!

    Take Care and God Bless,

    Keith

  • Well, Chris has the Digidesign console for his HD setup. I just have the LE 002. So between our studios we do a lot of recording. Thanks for checking it out! It was indeed a lot of fun.

Talk to you soon, I'm sure!

  • Oh and it was hilarious when the dogs were howlin xD

  • Ha, yes, they tend to do that because they want to sing along...they just can't resist. Thanks for checking it out as always!

  • No prob dude!

  • Great stuff guys! <3

  • awsome guys great vocals and great drums

  • Thank you very much, Alesio.
