@mrblingist You've seen to many movies. Vikings were great craftsmen, merchants, warriors. Womans had rights before European got arse raped by Christianity. You language have 2000 words from the Norse language. The vikings conquered England twice! King Knud (Danish) and William the Conquer (Norwegian/French). Without the vikings the English language wouldn't exist at all. In England, the Vikings living there even had a reputation for excessive cleanliness.
@Lubben that was the nice way of putting it, but i've given up trying to correct the minds of these 10 year old idiots who think they know all, hopefully they'll know what they're talking about in future.
@Snyltebiter I would argue here. ;) Samurais were evolving their culture for about 8 centuries. I'm learning Katori Shinto Ryu which is an 6 centuries old school of japanese swordsmanship. Vikings were a short period, almost 3 centuries. They hadn't left much writings, buildings or an empire, but they were very smart and strong in various ways. Smiths, sculptors, jewellers, spirituality, warcraft, building, trade. They've mastered it in a short time. I have a huge respect fro the Vikings.
This kind of pisses me off, i'm not a REAL viking i'm English but have strong norse blood (father) who taught me everything i know about fighting even in reenactments etc. i'm a storyteller..now..how will it sound coming in an american accent? 3 years is that all? i've been training since i was 7 guy i'm 21 now and still practice everyday. actually if any englishmen is out there, i'm for hire, wanna learn? just ask me i run free demos at a training club. bearded axe and shield mainly.
Euorpeans where not vikings, Scandinavian was. Are Americans trying to steal our heritage? Stop trying to act like vikings, when it dose not ever are in your blood.
Europeans and thus Americans have Viking blood (not all, but some). Where do you think they landed, conquered, settled? If you are a Viking, you should be proud someone is educating the world about them and not letting their memory die. It was obviously a spur of the moment answer and he said Europe. Finland and Denmark are part of the EU and Sweden, Iceland&Norway contribute to the economy. The Texas chapter was hosting the event and made up a very small part that day.
Scandinavia = The people who share the same heritage, The people who speak the same Language, The people who share the same History before the Modern Age. Finland is not a part of that.
wrong ,dna tests wer carried out on the west of the uk to determin how much if any norse /dane ect dna is in the general poulation , 90% of those tested wher descended from the vikings that SETTLED in the west of england and scotland not to mention the shetlands the orkneys AND irland get you facts straight befor you mouth off
@TurbofritzsDanidritt Just a side note, about 30 million americans have scandinavian blood. Some 3 million scandinavians emigrated there and the USA have seen a large population increase from its northen settlers.
@tyskbulle Oh shut the fuck up, they are nothing like real scandinavian people. The culture and spirit of a person leaves them when they leave their homeland. And all of these people have nothing nordic about them.
You americans don't get it do you? You seem to believe you can be anything you fucking want. I bet you think a turkish man can be german too yes? You will find that the people with the biggest boner over scandinavian history are those who aren't scandinavian.
@Pawnbroker00 So what your saying is that People not born from Scandinavia, are more proud of their heritage, than the people born there? Greeks and Romans were the first to write about Scandinavia, populated by the barbarian tribes from Germania. Everyone Migrated from some where, Its believed that all life started in Asia, and/or Africa, so by your assumption, no one anywhere can lay clam to any land. all of Europe was colonized at some time.
@Ulfvaldr2012 nop, i am just saying that you have to vocalise about it like you are something very special.. like saying I HAVE BALLS I HAVE BALLS I HAVE BALLS just in case you forgot that you have those balls. Which is what all racially "proud" americans do
@Pawnbroker00 I have not head any "Scandinavian Europeans" vocalize their heritage any better or worst than "Scandinavian Americans". Its not our fault our family's moved over here, in fact I wish I had have been raised in Norway, or Denmark, as is my lineage. My spirit didn't die cause I was born here, in fact I believe its stronger. I am very cultural, and America is pretty much without cultures. We're just try to keep our heritage alive the best we can here so we don't become mindless sheep.
@TurbofritzsDanidritt Scandinavians are Europeans. . . Plus, many people (including the French and Sicilians) from Europe have viking heritage. The French are descendants of the Franks. The Danish are part of the mainland. They had a few viking colonies. Same with Germany, most people there also have viking heritage. Also some people off of the west-coast of Ireland. Dublin was founded by vikings. English people come from the famous vikings known as the Anglo-Saxons as well as the Franks.
@TurbofritzsDanidritt first of all, "Viking" is a job description, not a race, and yes the ones that did go a Viking where Scandinavian.
What is really wrong with people keeping that alive? sounds to me like you and the other like you are ashamed of the Vikings. And ,Exactly how do you know whats in our blood, did you do DNA testing? Did you look up our family trees? If your mother and father where visiting in Iran where you where born, would that make you an Arab?
@TurbofritzsDanidritt actually vikings were danes, norse and anyone who went viking. and btw about 90 percent of americans are decended from eropeans. ignorant idiot
ahh the vikings come from scandinavia (Denmark, Norvay mostly, and also sweden and finland ´;D haha.. but the germans where the guys fighting the romans soo they are all fearce worriors.. cant spell.. but thats how I see it.. good video btw
small countries like germans never could beat the slavs only great empires could win the slavic land...when i say that small countries never could beat the slavs i don't meen the serbs because the serbs could be beaten by anyone...:)
They have lots of guys from Norway...everywhere, really. Anybody can start a chapter. It's about respect for Vikings and living by a code. It's like the mountain man gatherings at the base of the Tetons, or a renaissance fair. They share knowledge of how Vikings did things long ago and are as historically accurate as possible.
Poland had a strong connections with Vikings in middle ages - Slavs from north Poland took part in many Viking rides and also invide Scandinavia. Wolin(Jomsborg) Was one of biggest and most famous Viking cities. First kings of Poland (Mieszko I, Boleslaw Chrobry) had many viking warriors in their armies. Canute the Great - Danish king who conquered England was half Polish (his mother -Swietoslawa/Sigrid was sister of Polish king Boleslaw) Some warriors from Poland took part in this invasion.
@bolek0008 lol lol, strong and stong. Maybe you had to use viking warriors because your soldiers was inefficent and litterly sucked? What has Wolin to do with Poland? Yeah and he wa shalf Polish? the army he was leading were vikings his father was Danish and he could have done it aswell as good if he was Norwegian or Danish.
@onestepcloserthetrut Vikings in Polish army were better equipped and probably better trained than Polish warriors. But Polish soldiers didn't suck - They defended Poland from Invasion of strongest European country in that time - German Empire.
In Viking Era Wolin was inhabited by Pomeranian Slavs and Scandinavians - and in some periods it payed tribute to Polish kings (It was finally captured by Polish king at the beginning of XI century)
@bolek0008 Yeah yeah, you belive what you want to mate... I never heard of this town anyway. Still my point is, Polish were not vikings whats so ever and how you should twist it.
@onestepcloserthetrut Look at wikipedia -Jomsborg. You didn't heard about it but it dosn't mean it didn't exist. History of southern coast of Baltic sea in Viking Era is not verry well known in Western Europe :( . Pagan Slavs from Baltic coast trade with Vikings and sometimes took part in their rides to Western Europe. After Viking Era - in XII century Slavic Pirates (Polabians for example) were most fearsome pirates at Baltic sea (google - Slavic Piracy). They also invided Scandinavia.
@onestepcloserthetrut But Ok I can agree that Poles from Central Poland were not Vikings. (Maybe some joined them - we don't know this) But slavic tribes from Pomerania (which is now in Poland) were part of viking world.
@TurbofritzsDanidritt Because Vikings were travelling through Vistula river and settlet deep in the country in several places. Noble Viking families were mixing with noble Slavian families building new villages. Slavian smiths were also making swords for the Vikings. Trade was a routine. This history is still pretty new, archeological works are in progress and we're discovering new facts every year. Not so long ago people were thinking that the Vikings were wearing horns on their helmets...
@BryB0x Hell even the Native Americans came from Asia at one point.
