@GamaVideoProductions the high pitched noise is not longer present. A component was changed in late 2010.
If the power is cut during charging in a car, due to the ignition being turned off, the charger will start charging when car starts again. If the battery is already full, the voltage will be detected, and charging will switch from the default 1000mA charge to a 50mA trickle charge.
looks good, but i'm worried about the high pitch noise. also if you put in a/ power up car with a fully charged battery, will it start charging again?
Just got one of these from Protog. Great unit. Comparing this charger to most others on the market I'd say it's like having an SLR instead of a basic point-and-shoot camera. You get all the control and information you want. My old charger is a simple 16 hour timed charger operating at 0.1C. The MH-C9000 has revealed at least one dodgy cell (cheap supermarket ones) so I'm trying a refresh and analyse. With the old charger I might never have known, much less been able to do anything about it.
@sarsshadow the BREAK-IN feature follows the IEC standard for testing a battery capacity. It is also a good way to 'form' the battery when first charged, to optimise the battery capacity.
mine doesn't have a high-pitch sound in any kind of mode, fortunately! i bought it in November 2010, maybe the PCB inside is a different revision and the firmware might be updated also.

Looks like this is the one to buy...too bad it's so expensive!

what is the break in feature?

@RaptorZX3 - Yesm, that's right. Since batch number OJOHI they use newer PCB and components which do not have the high pitched sound.

@jeffservaas Thanks, Mine wasn't making any noise either and I was worried, lol
