I used a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off and a standard puller to split the cases. I also used a freezer and heat for installing the crank bearings in the cases as they are a really tight fit. Other than that all the tools are standard.
Thanks, it took around three months just working in the evenings. Most of the time was spent trying to find the parts at a good price, once I found a new crank and cylinder the rest was easy.
Thanks. No I never sandblasted or powdercoated it, just used sandpaper and 3m brite pads. I painted it with base coat, clear coat and put in a Wiseco piston and rings. As well a new Wiseco crank and connecting rod.
that was an awesome job.. and a massive inspiration for me to buy an old wreck to polish up :-) I had an old genesis 1000 in the same colour scheme. Retro look lol..
Painted it myself, used Lacquer paint. I would recommend powder coating your frame as it's much better and last a long time. Most paint shops will do it for a reasonable price if you can't do it yourself.
Was seized and hadnot been run for ten years. I took pitty on it and restored it for the owner. Basically any moving part was rebuilt or replaced with new parts if the old ones were beyond repair
Thanks. I used an aluminum cleaner and 3m scotchbrite pads to clean all the aluminum parts. The cases were sprayed with silver base and clear coat on the outsides. The old cylinder was beyond repair, so was replaced with a new one.

@emerald310 did you sandblast the engine and then powder coat it or did you not paint it at all? Great job by the way. What piston did you use?
