Yep. No need for sleeper cars when the speed means that any major city can be reached from Tokyo within 5 hours if the network reached that far. On the other hand, the version of the E2 exported for China has sleeper cars because even at that speed it takes a night to reach Beijing from Shanghai.

It is the same story in Britain, sleepers are only used on the longest routes now as the reduction in journey times on medium distance routes has made them redundant. In fact I think there might only be one sleeoer left now.
