  • STING is the real boss, because he just nailed the entire audience with his performance

  • @Maphimi Using a Bruce Springsteen song written in honour of 9/11 and with the help of many other singers... Bruce is the Boss. Sting is great, but there's no comparison.

  • go obama!! lol

  • @Howsurcroch fuck obama

  • Was that Meryl Streep in the audience?

  • @MrRazorblade999 Hell yeah :) Jack Black and Phillip Seymour-Hoffman were too...

  • Stewart is from an elite NYC jewish family. He went to an Ivy league university. His father was a physics professor. His brother is the head of the NYSE. I doubt Stewart ever felt like a "loser" in the sense that the characters in Springsteen's songs do. If anything, Stewart, despite his superficial liberalism, has much more in common, in every real sense, with the people who forclose on the the home than those foreclosed upon. But, shit, you have to play along, I guess.

  • @seans10 yea stewarts father left him and to this day has no contact with his son. I mean him and his brothers are a couple of assholes being raised by a single mother on a public school teacher salary. I mean they were dumb enough to work hard go to school and succeed. What a couple of douches who were actually raised in jersey and worked hard in life to get where they are....

  • @Foolrain89 I don't recall Tom Joad attending an Ivy League university or heading up the NYSE. Damn, where was Steinbeck to chronicle this tragic American story?

  • @seans10 and your point is...oh thats right non existant, first stewart was an asshole for being rich from the start. now he's an asshole because american authors don't write about rags to riches stories similar to his? would a better america be where despite talent and hard work you can never get ahead of the curve or hard times? My mistake I forgot the real American dream was to work hard and go no where

  • Good tribute to à Great artist! Springsteen is the man

  • Everything was going well till Sting came out. :( But I loved Stewarts whole story.

  • bruce has the sexiest laugh, voice, singing vocals. omg the list can go on Everything Bruce does and has is SEXY.

  • I watch Kennedy Center every year and this was the best honor I have ever seen.

  • " PRECIOSO Y EMOTIVO "

  • 1:02 serious face!

  • When you hear Sting, you just know that only The Boss can sing Springsteen!

  • I haven't even looked at the comments of this video but I am sure some motherfucker put Ron Paul 2012 somewhere....goddamn youtube is predictable

  • @MusicJew158 Looks like that motherfucker was you. Good job being predictable.

  • I like how everyone looks at Bruce Springsteen BEFORE they start laughing. ;) Good stuff Stewart.

  • Great video. Watching and listening gave me goosebumps. We all know the boss has been the rock and roll messiah for the past 35 years, but to see him tributed like that and to see the love so many famous people really feel for him and his music is truly humbling. God bless him.

  • Who disliked this?......fuck you trolls the boss will reign forever!

  • @hockeybuf123

"fuck you trolls" hahahahahahahahaha Good one man!

  • Why are people debating pollitics and econmics on this video, when they should be honoring the Boss?

  • wrong exits Jon. it should have been 7a and 8

  • wow isnt this economy great under Obama, Bruce ??

  • @k3304 Just another right wing fuckwit who no doubt voted for Bush twice. I can't believe anyone would care about your worthless opinion.

  • @adish6 , you obviously care about my opinion because you replied to me

  • @k3304 I care about it the same way I care about cancer.

  • @adish6 , you obviously don't care about our economy like Bruce & Barry

  • Bruce Springsteen is perhaps the only person capable of making Obama not the coolest person in the room.

  • @wpfairbanks word

  • @wpfairbanks , We can thank Bruce for telling us to vote for Barry Obama and this great economy we have

  • @k3304 Or thank Bruce for warning us about the oligarchic economic policies that ruined the middle class, which he's been warning us for for 30 years.

  • @wpfairbanks , like Bill Clinton signing the NAFTA agreement or his wife Hillary on the board of Wal Mart ?

  • @k3304 Exactly bro. I ain't a democrat so you aren't going to box me in. The politicians have been increasing corporate tax revenues whilst degrading the middle class. Bruce has said "I spent most of my life as a musician measuring the distance between the American dream and American reality." He thought Obama would be best for the middle class, and compared to McCain, he probably has. Not good enough though.

  • @wpfairbanks , we'll never know what kind of president John McCain would have been, will we ?

  • @k3304 Take an educated guess.... probably a cranky, aloof, fool who serves the interests of the wealthy and bigoted, as he does in the Senate.

  • @wpfairbanks , i guess we're happy with trickle up poverty

  • @k3304 I'll let the apparent stupidity of that comment stand for itself

  • @wpfairbanks , ask the 10% unemployed if my comment is stupid

  • @k3304 That's cute. Of course, I don't think Bush, who created the financial collapse in 2008, is a proponent of "trickle up" economics. And Obama didn't fix the economy. But you don't blame a firefighter who cannot put out the fire, you blame the arson!

  • @wpfairbanks , look up the Community Reinvestment Act of 1999 which was voted into law by both parties and Bill Clinton. It forced banks to lend to low incomers, the democrats way of thinking that everyone deserves a house. It was another entitlement to "level the playing field", another program funding mediocracy.

  • @k3304 Springsteen would fucking hate you

  • @wpfairbanks , Bruce has a tough time with the truth

  • @k3304

Did that give license to banks and financial institutions to create new financial products like CDS and mortgage backed securities...packaging the risk into pools and selling them off. Nobody forced the banks to lend out money, they did it out of greed and sold the risk until nobody knew what the hell was going on.... and who actually de-regulated the entire financial industry?

The entire conservative economic argument about letting the markets rule has proven to be an abject failure

  • @okayplayer82 , come on dude , did you look up The Community Re-Investment Act of 1999 ? It's about the whole liberal way of thinking that everyone deserves a house. Banks were FORCED to lend to low incomers. They knew the balloon mortgage was failure in the making just like this so-called president is. Another form of the re-distribution of wealth. When Barry finally crashes the stock market we'll all be like Greece and Europe and thats what liberals want.

  • @k3304

Dude, I am from Europe (Norway) and we're doing much much better than you. The entire northern europe is. Nobody forced banks to due anything, they did it because of their own greed. And knew once it failed that gullible taxpayers like you would foot the bill for their reckless behaviour. They played it perfectly.

USA has doubled its GDP since the 1980s, yet the average American worker makes less today than 30 years ago, while everything has gotten more expensive .

  • @k3304

you against free trade? I thought conservatives loved free trade? Now your against NAFTA? Funny how conservatives blame liberals for policies and legislation that they support and champion once they are implemented.

  • @okayplayer82 , American unions who vote liberal democrat cannot compete with free trade. You can't have your cake and eat it too. We can't have open borders and union workers who make over $40 an hour.

  • @k3304

You mean compete with China and India. Of course you cannot compete on wages, unless you want to become a 3rd world country yourself. Germany has a huge manufacturing and exporting industry. They compete by creating high tech value products, that the chinese and indians can't. Germany is doing great and they have a sensible taxation system allowing them to invest in their infrastructure and education to increase productivity and help their businesses.

  • Legg inn respons på denne videoen

Look, I am a great friend of America, I hope you can work yourselves out of this problem. I'll be honest, I do not understand the conservatives in America. You can't keep cutting taxes and expect that there will not be a revenue problem afterwards.

  • @okayplayer82 , it's simple Economics 101. If you pay less taxes you have more money to spend and invest which are both taxed revenue streams in themselves

  • @k3304 So if we pay "fewer" taxes we will have more morons such as you who cannot even speak English correctly. Who will pay for education? our military to defend our country? agencies that give us clean water, safe food, non-polluted air, our wonderful national parks that are so much better than anything found elsewhere in the world. Governments protect us..the disabled, the young, the elderly, each other. People as selfish as you will NEVER understand this.

    This is about Springsteen.

  • @k3304

I see that has worked well for the american economy.

  • @wpfairbanks what about de niro?

  • @wpfairbanks amen!

  • Inspiring, this makes you think and dream.

  • I love how absolutely humbled he is at the end.

  • I had a small hi-cup in my faith walk today. I Looked at The Man in this video and

said to myself. Hey little person that's THE BOSS EAGLE up there with the

President and his Wife. You had better walk tall and be proud to be where

you are in life. That Man is The Personification of Greatness on all levels. I keep

hearing Janey don't you loose heart. Ti Amo

  • How can Obama lead when he's still a follower?

  • obama is fucking lovingggg it!

  • It's the Kennedy honors, apparently Sting thought it was the dress like Lincoln honors

  • I love how the orchestra is playing Born to Run.I bet Bruce never imagined that when he wrote it.

  • what are those mork and mindy neck things?

  • I took my date to the Senior Prom in a Gremlin in Youngstown, Ohio. I didn't get laid. In fact, she left me for other friends that night. Jon, you are on target!

  • sting is amazing in this

  • One of the best cultural, pop, political, story tellers by song, since Woody Guthrie, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway..........I just wish He wasn't soooo liberal....hopefully he sees that all parties are "F'd" up......C'mon Boss.....nothing is working yet....

  • ALWAYS worth a replay!! The Boss Rules! Jon Too!

  • did i read somewhere that they were selling this tribute on iTunes. i want to see the whole show but i searched iTunes i couldn't find it. can anyone clue me in?

  • what about al pacino lol.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE GREATEST SONGWRITER,SHOWMAN,ENTERTAINER OF THE CENTURY!

  • What can you say about Stewart's intro? Funny...to be sure. Right on...ti be double sure. I have seen Bruce manytimes since the early 70s at Liberty Hall in Houston. I dropped a name on one of his stage hands once and had a chance to talk with him. I gave him a brick from Liberty Hall that had since been torn down. When the history of the last thirty years of the last century are written. Bruce will have a deserved spot...near the top. Glad we had him. We are the better for it.

  • hilarious . . .

  • For those who missed this.

  • obama is loving this! XD

  • @buscadoradesuenos It's probably the one thing that the right can't give him shit for.

  • U.S. Congressman, abolitionist, "Father of the 14th Amendment" John Bingham, confirms understanding &construction framers used re birthright & jurisdiction House of Reps 3/9 1866:

I find no fault with the introductory clause which is simply declaratory of what is written in the Constitution, that EVERY HUMAN BEING BORN within the jurisdiction of the United States OF PARENTS NOT OWING ALLEGIANCE TO ANY FOREIGN SOVEREIGNTY IS, in the language of your Constitution itself, A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN

  • "A natural-born citizen has been defined as one whose citizenship is estab'd by the jurisdiction which the U.S. already has over the parents of the child, not what is thereafter acquired by choice of residence in this country"

If the Founders had not wanted an expansive definition of citizenship,Morse writes,"it would only have been necessary to say,'no person, except a native-born citizen

Natural-Born Citizen of the United States-Eligibility for the Office of President Alexander Porter Morse-1904

  • chills and tears. Bruce and Jon are such great men!

  • This is fantastic!! Love Jon and Sting. Great clip!!

  • "but..i am from new jersey" !!!!! so great. bruce is a legend.

  • wow god damn i have to say, i really hat tears in my eyes right now watching this!! seing bruce springsteens inner life here, when he experienced STING with "the rising". look at his face his gesture, it looks like his whole life and what he has done rushes trough his body.. man, what he has done and does is, you can´t say it in words..the whole human being Bruce Springsteen..i don´t know how to say or wright, i´m just totally moved right now!!

  • Love John Stewart. he's amazing that man.

and i love how Jack Black turns around to see Bruce's reaction.

haha Bob Dylan and James Brown.bahahah

  • "Between exits 8a and 9 on the Jersey Turnpike." Love how he makes a reference native New Jerseyans would know. Half my life was spent driving in the turnpike.

  • Bruce is the greatest

  • @Tunnelof Oh I agree!!! His music are epic poems about how great the human spirit and the American spirit are!!! That we are one!!!

  • I wish they would've let the honorees give speeches, though.

  • I love to watch Obama and Bruce together. Partly because it brings out such a casual side of Obama, and partly because I can so imagine them as friends "in real life," too. They're exactly the same, lovable dreamers who believe in things everyone else thinks are impossible.

  • Think she shows up more throughout the broadcast than some of the honorees-she should buy her makeup artist a Cadillac cause she looks absolutely fantastic!

  • It's great to see the artists of this generation honored like this. Hopefully this year Billy Joel will get his due and even Gregg Allman for all of his baggage.

  • I agree with moonmatter....what is Patti doing behind him?

  • @OutsideNila Hi. That's just how the seating works out during the Honors program. Only the artists being honored sit up front while family members sit behind them. It has always been like that. Hope this helps.

  • I wish I was a music cricket!

  • why do i not have a Springsteen album?

  • Get your wife beside you Bruce- Not behind you

  • Great tribute and well delivered. I wonder though if his comments at 3:12 are entirely accurate. Apart from the line in Thunder Road I'm not sure Bruce's songs are really about losers, rather more reflective of people in losing situations. But as I said overall it was great and a fantastic video tribute to a great singer.

  • Anybody know who the spectator who shows up at 2:41 covering her face is? She is on during many of the clips and she is drop dead gorgeous!

  • @gschechter That is Miss Sharon Stone. Not bad for fifty-something, huh?

  • Bruce wanted cry so badly while Sting was singing :)

  • my 2 favorite people in the same room, life is awesome.

  • wow @ around 6:55 when the president stands they all get up, that was cool the way he got in the groove bruce looks honored and shocked.

  • Jon Stewart was so funny. The rest of the segments provide ample evidence that Springsteen doesn't belong in the same room as Brubeck.

  • Bruce--the Boss embodiment of divine voice & pride of America

  • Bruce Springsteen, enough said...

  • Jon Stewart showed his genius by honoring genius.

  • Great intro from Jon Stewart. Very funny, touching, honest, and insightful. Not an easy combination to achieve. But come to think about it, Bruce embodies all those same qualities in his music!

  • Mel, Bruce and Obama are just laughing their asses off. You gotta love Jon Stewart

  • Sting really performed a great version of this inspiring song...wow.

  • Stewart nails what it was, and is, being a fan of Bruce.Family, relationships, girls,

cars,brotherhood,humanity---he's truly one of a kind.

  • .."he empties the tank." He sure does.

  • Love you, Bruce!

  • aww @ 7:57 Jon's wife in the yellow dress xD (yes, i am a stalker)

  • fuckin awesome.

  • Joe Biden is having a good time

  • sei il numero 1 ...

  • Bruce ... Simply the best! greetings from 'Italy! Radio Nowhere !!!!!!!!

  • Bruce... Semplicemente il migliore!!! Ciao dall' Italia!! Radio nowhere!!!!!!!!

  • I've also often felt like a loser in an epic poem about losers when listening to Bruces 's songs. Thanks Jon for defining that feeling so well.

  • This is very sweet. As a NYer Jon had me rolling in the aisles with the jokes about NJ, oh thanks for the gem

  • whats this from? anyone have a full feature download?

  • Jill McCormick @ 8:20

  • I bet Dylan was the power bottom

  • That look on Bruce face at 5:06! Just great! What a moving moment! Bruce's the best!!

    Well done by Sting!

  • Does anyone happen to know who the drummer is for this performance? I can't make it out very clearly. I'm pretty sure it's not Max Weinberg.

  • I think it's Paul Shaffer.....

  • It's Kenny Aronoff

  • I don't know Bruce Springsteen. I make no claim to friendship or even passing aquaintance. So tell me, why am I so damned PROUD of this man and his music? From Flemington

  • Comment removed

  • @Slope142 Because he's authentic. Gave more money to the Vietnam Vets than anyone in history. Funded food banks in every town he performed in. And is passionate for the America he loves. He's always shared thankfully. More than any politician, musician, or....

  • Bruce Bruce Bruce sei grande!!! Ciao dall'Italia

  • Best for last.

  • I thought this whole show was great! Much better than the stupid Grammys or Oscars. The Bruce part was the best, but the DeNiro and Mel Brooks part were great too. I also thought the Grace Bumbry and David Brubeck tributes were interesting as well.

  • @jgenne02

This is better than any award show not hosted by Ricky Gervais

  • I'm not from New Jersey, but I'm proud to be a loser in an epic poem about losers as told by Bruce Springsteen. When Bruce told us we were Born to Run, I jumped into his car and went along for the ride. 35 years later, I'm still riding with him. Keep on telling your stories, Bruce, I'm here for the long haul.

  • Well desreved, Love you Bruce, Patti and the Band. Hope to see many many more shows

    Peace

  • This is soooo awesome!

  • NJ is awesome, it's citizens played a part in pioneering american culture.

  • BRUUUUUUUUUCE

  • Awesome! Sting did an awesome job on this classic Springsteen - I'm so impressed with both!

  • Personally I think Mellencamp royally fucked up when he got the lyrics to "Born in the USA" wrong. I mean yes, they're tough to understand when you hear it for the first time, but if you're going to perform it at the KENNEDY CENTER for performing arts, you should probably know that "the first kick I TOOK (not hit) was when I hit the ground"

  • @Spngr98 ...... wow. Take a deep breath. Count to ten. Now destroy your computer so we may be spared your over-reacting ignorance.

  • Altered...How can you listen to The Rising or all the heartfelt anguish of Your Missing.. and say he is a phony?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Altered13th. I ask you to go back to his earliest works, albums "Greetings from Asbury Park New Jersey," "The Wild The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle," and even "Born to Run," and tell me he was a rich phony. Tell me his lyrics suck. Tell me all of his songs sound the same. Give me an early 20-year-old who does it better. I urge you. I also urge you to justify yourself because you sound like you are a pre-teen.

  • Not a big Springsteen fan but this musical tribute was spot on with the songs. Eddie Vedder was amazing. Jon Stewart was hilarious. I enjoyed this program.

  • Melissa Ethridge absolutely ruined Born to Run

  • @ALTERED13TH

    your opinion doesnt matter

  • ALTERED13TH . . . Your comment may just be the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life and I once heard a guy say that he was Elvis reincarnated.

You have no idea about the great Rock and Roll poet Bruce is. He watches and listens to people and has taken his experiences and has told about them like no one else could ever do. I may not agree with him politically but he is the greatest Rock and Roll Poet of my lifetime.

  • Man dont care about what he says..if he dont understand his music...his a retard and i feel petty for him (so shoud ALL of us who likes bruces work)

  • Wow, what a deserved honor.

  • @ALTERED13TH

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, your comment was just ment to provoke and upset people, which is quite pathetic. Do you understand how pathetic that is? Go comment on something you love instead.

  • I could just be dreaming, but when you see Bruce's face when his songs are performed i get sort of a feeling that he thinks "I HAVE TO GO ON TOUR AGAIN!"

  • very, very nice!

    BROOOOOCE!

  • when was it?

  • Lebowitz and the want to be Bob Dylan. How PC and orthodox!

  • @freetobefreddy I have. I believe they called it the Republican National Convention.

  • "Touché"

  • @mididude03 Yes, yes.

  • Brruuuuuuuuuuce !

  • He's not dead...

  • Woot, good post! I had to work during the original airing but SOOO wanted to see Jon doing anything new (he and Stephen take longer and more holiday breaks than any other "news" show, and there's nothing else on TV...). Thanks so very much faridb2000 ^.^

  • I agree The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are the only two shows on TV these days that really matter!!

  • @jgenne02

    and conan O brien

  • @jgenne02 dont forget bill maher!
