  • I own 3 of these - 2 are convertibles.....you want to transport your head to 1960's when gas was $.21/gallon, Motown was THE music, and life and driving was all fun (not to mention hot as hell and ses a plenty!) ??? Put the key in the ignition and foot down....damn after 45 years the old girl still runs like a raped ape....just LOVE that masculine burble of the exhaust....best thing is the tree hugger / eco- freaks have a cardiac arrest!

  • Too bad new cars aren't as strong

  • RIP Pontiac.

  • lets see them do that to a new toyota

  • buy silver coins and bars for investment...and musclecars for the cool factor

  • I bought my 1968 GTO in 1979 for $800.00 my first car. I loved it . I wish I still had her Mayfair Maize,His & Her,Hide a way head lights, vinyl top. I will have another some day.

  • toyota drivers have no friends.

  • Toyota, yeah RELIABLE MY ASS!!!!!! All you hear about them is problems, There sure as hell not as good looking as ANY American car, right now American is probably the most reliable way to go, but everyone is being brainwashed by Toyota and other fucking

Companies like that. Pontiac went out because for some reason people liked that ugly annoying whiny conformist piece of shit scam call "prius" over something fun powerful and attractive. If I had to get an Eco Car, it would be the chevy vol

  • Pontiac going out of business was a great lesson for everyone. The lesson is BUY AMERICAN YOU ASSHOLES!!!!!

  • @EmericSk8r EXACTLY!! When the Japanese deliberately styled their cars for the American market you dropped your own in favour of their cheap plastic SHIT....now U.S workers happily make Japanese cars in America to sell to Americans...IT'S LIKE A BAD FUCKING DREAM.

  • Looks like the guys at pontiac didnt get a raise that year.

  • Man, i hate all the hype on jap crap, like they all are starting to have recalls and can't last over 190,000 miles!!!(except for Mazda, they are owned by ford)

  • haganle eso a cualquier vehiculo de cualquier marca ahora en 2010, desaaaasssstre total.

  • @sybermen toda la razon los autos de hoy son una vil porqueria

  • It's a shame that they dropped the axe on Pontiac right after they put out the first car worthy of the name in decades (the G8.) If GM had anyone who wasn't brain-dead in the home office they'd keep the G8 alive as a Chevrolet.

  • I'm gonna get the rear bumper from my "68, and get it duplicated in this material. Then, go give it a good ass-whoopn like these dumb dudes....lolz !

  • RIP Pontiac. GM killed Pontiac decades ago.

  • No doubt! There was an excellent article written by P.J. O' Rourke titled: "the end of the affair" .

Described how Pontiac died a long time ago, as did our love affair with American cars. I owned several GTOs and LeMans, am currently restoring a 70 LeMans convertible. If it doesn't have a Pontiac engine in it (a REAL Pontiac engine) the nameplate should just say "GM" on it!. Google for that article I mentioned- it's a good read.

  • They should start making this car again, but as a hybrid or something.

  • @MattTheSaiyan A hybrid Goat?! You must not have ever seen one run. So sad... we are again failing the future with plastic commie crap.

  • Im sure pontiac will be back after the economy starts up again, hopefully. I haven't owned anything but a pontiac.

  • why? a Grand Prix was no different than a Monte Carlo, same engine, body and platform with a little more weight.

  • I just like the name i guess. Also IMO I just believe that its a better looking car. But thats just me.

  • Is my new thong hot? hehe

  • i'd hit the fenders and windshield

  • why and how could you hit such a beautiful car??? oh the shame...

  • I made a wild and naughty vid finer than this one, I hope it doesn't get canned !

  • love to see it Cowgal! :-)

  • 1968- the greatest year this planet has ever seen. I should know, I was born then. Thanks for posting!

  • Our government are stupid shit face asses. They killed Pontiac, they are pure monsters!

  • While the government did make things difficult, GM has been abusing and bastardizing the Pontiac name for way too long, since the 80s. No car guys managed the brand, and considered the "musclecar" word to be evil (one of the reasons why the new GTO failed epically). Jim Wangers was apalled. Lack of direction and rebadging are just one of the reasons why Pontiac died.

  • I'll miss Pontiac. Stupid government. Muscle cars were about giveing the man the finger. Now the man is giveing us the finger in a big way. Bailing out the banks? Just to try and kill muscle cars again. Go buy your Chargers, 300s, GTOs, and G8s now while they're still out there and still afforable!

  • @ratfink409 They're are afffordable, but boring. I mean those cars won't turn heads like this hear GTO. Cars used to be about being bad ass and getting the girl. Those whips had so much swag they're still head turning til this day. Now it's boring as shit and he stuff they aim at youngsters is about MPG like the Focus and Corrolla. Sucks dude.

  • i worked @ a factory that made them styled steel wheels - i welded many wheels, painted the 5 dark spokes on many

  • thats true everything those pontiac engineres touch turn into great!!

  • to bad they won't be turning anything into great anytime soon

  • yea, it may not be denting the bumper. But anyone who owns a gto with an endura bumper is cringing as they watch this because you know how bad that paint has to be cracking. If they had a higher quality camera, that front bumper would look like a spider web

  • Ya TheCustomer99, ur hella right. The paint would become a spider web and chip off. But here is one thing I don't understand. Why would anyone choose their pony car for a dent resistant bumper? I thought performance was king on these bad boys.

  • This is true, however back then this stuff was very trick, and if you think about it Endura is is bad ass, just think if we had some form of that now.

Insurance people might not be able to afford land on Mars!

  • Friggen beast. If you hit a Toyota like that the whole front would cave in.

    I love my Pontiac.

  • @XTGeminiman

well they arent exactly hitting it with a hammer or anything with real weight. though toyota's and whatnot do have some pretty thin metal.(name is old, don't take it seriously)

  • @XTGeminiman

oh man you hate japanease cars as much as i do!!! finaly someone understands me

  • @XTGeminiman

If you hit any car like that it will dent the crap out of it. The old toyotas you could do that, but if you did that to any new car you would probably set off the stupid air bags.

  • :( RIP Pontiac!

  • My first car was a 1968 GTO. It was over 10 years old when I got it and I was just a teenager. I loved that car. My brother still has his 1966 GTO that he bought when he was 16 years old.

  • Donate the brand, finagle some kind of tax right off.Allow those who really love these cars to keep the excitement alive

For they never forgot what pontiac ment to people who enjoyed cruising to no where for no reason just to get out of the house.

The joy of teaching our children what an altenator is or how to check and change the oil. My wife has an 08 Envoy.I have no idea what size engine or what kind of transmission it has and I don't care.

because its par with other suv's in its class.

  • Instead of killing Pontiac, GM should talk with Year One, Jim Butler, Ames,Performance years, perhaps National Parts Depot, and of course Burt Reynolds.

Atleast save the Firebird/Trans Am name and lineage.

Look at the crap you called a GTO. The fast and the furious crowd does not have new car money ( mass majority) some of them do very imprssive stuff but the mass just put annoying mufflers on and over rev each gear.

Do not allow yourself to kill the real first muscle car brand.

  • GM announced today that the Pontiac Line will be retired...Sad Day...

  • i woulder if it could take 3" slug to the nose.

  • it can i tried

  • This bumper didn't really hold up as well as they advertised, I can remember the bumper on my cousin's Ventura looking absolutely terrible. Anyway, great car, the legacy of Pontiac was great hot cars until the bland ugly cars of the 1990's...

  • It looked bad because of the paint, GM had issues with the "flex" agent in the paint for the Endura. As well anyone who thinks this vid is over stated or they think they could hurt it with a crow bar or even a base ball bat your sadly mistaken! The bumper on one of my 72GTOs is Endura wrapped with no connecting steel, it's dam heavy strong. You might screw up the paint and chip it but thats about it! Real Pontiac's have Pontiac engines!

  • I'd have sex with that car...

  • too bad they dont make cars like that anymore

  • ...I bet I could dent that with a crow bar.

  • I think so too. Go up to one at a car show and ask to strike it with a crow bar and see if the onwer says, "go ahead, haven't you seen the commercial?" Good luck with that one.

  • with my luck, he will miss and go through the grill lol.

  • ah... back when GM used to be something.

  • I'd like to try the crowbar bumper strength test on someone's '68 GTO at the next muscle car meet/ auto show.

  • Orson Wells - reading the ad - great post.

  • Interesting, the announcer is the same guy that does the voice for all the classic 70s and 80s Horror movies lol

  • That wasn't Orson Wells. If you pull up the ad for the '67 GTO Convertible, you'll see the guy actually in the commercial (it starts with him walking around the car saying "this is the great one, the ultimate driving machine,......" Cannot remember his name, but he did bit parts in TV westerns, as well as the 68-69 Pontiac ads - sadly, smoking-related cancer cut his life and career short. Meanwhile, don't plan on any cars today going thru THAT durability test!

  • Gee it sounds like him, thanks for that, have a very Merry Christmas - Gene

  • And a Merry Christmas to you, too! Have yourself a Happy New Year, also!

    Joe

  • It's Paul Richards (1924-1974) - probably best remembered today for portraying Mendez the mutant priest in 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes'.

  • Thanks for that - Gene

  • Paul Richards also appeared in the first TV episode of "Gunsmoke", aired on 9/10/1955, playing outlaw Dan Grat.

  • the endura is for sure the best style of front end on a muscle car because it is an integraded part of the front end.

  • Damn straight.

  • showw este comercial

  • Drive one of these today and say 'Crumple zone? No thanks, I'll use your Honda's crumple zone...'

  • Heresy!

  • He has sinned!!!!! aaahhhh!!

  • then why dont you go buy a faggy little civic and leave the gto to the big boys that can handle a REAL car

  • let him have is own opinion fucker

  • whoa...good one man you shure showed me

  • yea, he did. Let him have his own opnion. Mine is that i agree with you, they can keep there tiny imports. Im sticking with big american power.

  • i guesses some people don't understand the concept of sarcasm...

  • i did that to my dads truck once

it didnt work out the same way in this video

  • An old friend. (old enough to remember the commercial), once struck my 68 GTO with a hammer, thinking no damage would be done, but he hit the front fender rather than the enduro front bumper. Much to my surprise no damage was done. They just don't build them like they used to.

  • *drools*

  • the new one is a holden, but the old one isn t

  • The best year for the GTO - just a gorgeous car, period!

  • Was that G. Gordon Liddy wielding a crow bar? Sure looks like him!

  • gordon freeman style

  • lol!!!

  • I've got a 68 GTO hardtop and she's the best danged car I've ever owned! My 65 tigergold convertible is under restoration. She has been through several disasters, volcanic eruption in the Philippines, and hurricane Ivan in Florida. I'll get her back on the road one day and post some REAL videos here!

  • I have a 65 Goat, and in Italian

    it's Grand Touring Automobile,

but in any language, it's the Greatest!

  • my youtube handle should be a headsup to my kind of car.........a 68 GTO convertible......lots of fun for a 58 year old teenager...and GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato which in french means certified production for racing

  • Actually, that's Italian.

  • I love this GTO

  • i've heard that the whole naming of the GTO was sort of a joke on Ferrari. don't quote me on that though. but it wasn't homologated for any form of international racing through the FIA

  • oh christ. nowadays you cant even hit a sparrow without destroying your grill and radiator. I miss the days of metal.

  • what does gto stand for?

  • Get yer Toolbox Out! Just kidding It really stands for Gran Turismo Omologato which in translation means grand touring homologated, or a fancy way of saying the car was legal for some international types of racing.

  • wow you are one of the very few that knows what GTO really stands for.....bravo!

  • Grand Torismo Omolagano, as in the ferrari GTO

  • God Takes Over is what I always heard. LOL

  • I thought it was short for Grand Touring Option. I guess I was wrong. Since I thought it started as nothing more than an upgrade option for the tempest, and later became the seperate car. Oh well, I guess I may need to study more. Great car. Pontiac is my favorite and the classics are a beauties.

  • the absolute dumbest commercial ever, lol Utterly ridiculous ! Sure it was a super car, but this is the best they could do to advertise this Great legendary car ? lol pathetic

  • Advertisers back in the day probably didn't realize it was going to be a "legendary" car. To them it was probably a product they were tasked with advertising to sell.

  • I could rip the front end of my car apart with my bare hands...I wish cars were made like this GTO nowadays...

  • And the voice-over from Paul Richards...the "voice of Pontiac" (and Michelob beer, BTW) through the late 1960s...just enough of a 'tude to make it interesting without being a smart-ass about it. In the 1960s, everything Pontiac touched really did turn to great!

  • anybody do that to my poncho,i'd fu*k 'em up

  • Good job, you have got style my friend

  • They lasted a good long time. Even over 100,000 miles.

That's why they make them the way they do now. So you have to buy them more. And the situation with gas prices.

  • They don't make them like they used to.

  • damn you dont hear commericals like that anymore actually praising a car that well, "Seems everything those pontiac engineers touch turns to great"

  • Umm, was that particular bumper made of lead???

  • I had a '68 "Goat"

I don't recall the bumper being THAT durable!

  • the good old endura bumper on the pontiacs...

    nothing beats them :)

  • Thank you for adding and sharing this video. I added this video to my favorites. I really enjoyed the GM footage.
