Wow, whoever played this run through made Descent look like a real art form. I LOVE Descent and I could speed through mines, but this is absolutely gorgeous.
@vio21127, it's an opinion. I feel that the midi music is quite fitting, and the fact that is artificially created actually adds to the game...in my opinion.
i remember a game similar to this called "Forsaken", was able to play these games when I was young, but looking at the graphics and motion movement of the game now makes me so nauseous.
This is not the music that I have from my original PC game. I still play it on an old machine in DOS to this day, and nothing beats the original midi music. Particularly the music from level 7 in combination with the infamous boss battle. But I always liked the great tune from level 4 the best.
@eddie20haskell Wrong. This music beats the crappy MIDI music in every way possible. In fact, I still remember my friend getting mad at me having this music when his version didn't. Back in the 90s he had a PC while I had a Mac.
@Szederp It's from the PS1 version. Mostly the same tunes as the DOS version, just re-recorded by some session musicians. Doom on the 3DO has a similar treatment done to its tracks.
I remember playing this game all the time way back in the day. I was only, like, five, and to this day I wonder how I managed to get as far as I did (can't remember exactly how far, but my dad tells me I almost beat the game).
@pineapplepootytang No i think thta Red book better sound щас but some tracks never were in it so...they're in midi and they can be different. i'm not coparing the midi and the cd sound quality.
@pineapplepootytang Just because the music quality isn't as good does not mean that the music itself is not as good. They are two different things. I like these, especially the second one, which I believe is a remix of the D2 credit music. Fourth one is of level 12, D1, I think. Music quality is not as important as having a good tune, but the quality of the music here IS better than the MIDI's. Just some clarification.
@Raptanax maybe it's just my personal taste, but if i had ever played decent w/o this music and judging by what i've heard on the DOS decent... i would've played it with the sound off. and the music was a huge part of this game for me
ooooh ... this sounds like the soundtrack for the Mac edition... the PC version I had didn't have the CD audio tracks. Is there a PC version with the CD soundtrack? I lost my Mac Descent CD years ago!
If anyone knows where to get the PSX/Mac soundtrack to this game PLEASE contact me. I've been playing D1 via D2X-XL and have been playing without the very memorable soundtrack, and I've long lost my original copy.
Jesus! I'm used to doing full clean outs on levels. This is just insanely fast though. What setting are you playing on in these? It can't be insane, the bots are way too tame.
@cl0vvntiem Look up D1X-Rebirth (also known as DXX-Rebirth). It's a utility that makes it much more compatible with modern machines and operating systems. There's a similar project for Descent 2, (D2X), if you're in a mood for that too.
@cl0vvntiem The Rebirth project. You have to google it, as I can't post a link. Just type in DXX Rebirth.
Read about it, install it. It's brilliant, I love it. Check out my Descent vids if you'd like to see it in action. I would assume this guy is using it too.
Do any of these songs have titles by chance? I have this soundtrack and LOVE it, but I'd like to have the tracks labeled as something other than just 01, 02, 03, etc. Thanks!
Quite enjoyed the redbook version of the credit tune but other than that i do prefer the midi soundtrack althrough the first descent had a more true to the midi redbook soundtrack it still lacks some depth some of the arrangements are quite good through. ^_^
I played Descent so much when it came out that I memorized the location of every enemy and every powerup in the game. I'd even have dreams about playing it. Heh... those were the days. :)
i think this game can be considered timelss! its an amazing piece, you'd love to play some time to reminisce the developing 90's technological breakthroughs in gaming...
If you download DXX-Rebirth, you only need two files to play Descent 1. Descent.hog and Descent.pig (Interplay had some kind of infatuation with pigs??). But yeah, you could probably find those files on the internet somewhere. As far as I'm concerned this game is abandonware. I might just upload those files for the sake of keeping the game alive.
I have the name of all 13 tracks for the game: 1. Game info 2. Primitive Rage 3. Outerlimits 4. Close Call 5. The Darkness Of Space 6. Git It On 7. Fight 8. Death Lurks Beneath 9. C-4 Home Recipe 10. Escape 11. Backwards Time 12.Crazy Factory 13. Machine Gun 14. Insanity
I loved the games and the Credits theme (2:32). This guy play good though it is all about training. I play as good as him and I play with the keyboard using the numpad for the directions and "W,A,S,Y for the acceleration. I play the Descent games for 13 years with this config and I'm unbeatable ;D
Undoubtedly the best thing to ever come out of Interplay. This and part 2 were absolutely spectacular games that deserve to be honoured with a quality this-gen successor, preferably not by the same people who made Descent 3...
@garudoh do you know where you can get you hands on a copy of this game. I had it was back when. I also do you know how one might go about getting the soundtrack?
I prefer the MIDI version.
