@VariRinoa Yes, that was how it was originally written about having faith. It was about Christianity, but 'saviour' and 'god' are not specific to Christianity or any religion really. The song has been covered by many artists though. And each and every one of them puts something different into it. It may have started out like that, but what's to say that it hasn't become something else over time? Like always, it's just what the listener takes from it. It's not what's said, but how it is taken. :)

@nubbs The original is about having faith and being strong enough to get through times where there was little or no help except belief, a love for a higher power even. The song can also be about love; love of a partner, love of a friend, love of somebody who has helped them/saved them ('saviour'). Mainly though, it's about what you take from the song. I mean, there (hopefully) aren't people out there who don't like the song just because they think it's promoting Christianity! Lol :)

well, im not a chrisitan but my favorite artist by far is sufjan stevens, who sings about his faith all the time. it doesn't bother me where the song derives its inspiration, as long the song is beautiful, which this song most certainly is. and even if she is singing about god, that doesn't mean she's "promoting" religion. in fact, unless you were religious i suspect that you would assume she was singing about a person. but it seemed she was singing about a higher love, about god's love for her

I agree, the song is beautiful but I believe that Florence is singing it about a person despite the lyrics. If you listen to other songs by her like 'Heavy In You Arms', it like has the same passion? If that makes sense. Yes, I think having faith is a great thing and if it promotes great music like this, then it should continue like that.

I agree with both of you. I am an atheist and this does not offend me at all. Plus the concept of 'god' means many different things to different people and I find it actually pretty funny that that automatically means Christian to so many people. But when Florence sings it, I swear it is ''you are my daily meal''. Florence is known for changing the lyrics slightly when she sings a cover, take Hospital Beds for example.
