This is my favorite as well. Back in the day for me was also WPIX channel 11 in NYC. Right after The Honeymooners and before Star Trek at 11:30. These days I wait for the two times the run the marathons on SCIFI (now the SYFY,bleech!) channel. It will be back on just before new year's eve. The only thing I hate now is that they show TV show previews while TZ is ending and I can't hear the outro.
I'm making a Twilight Zone episode and I'm using this intro. Only I'm shooting my own scenes. was looking for an example of how I could impersonate Rod Serling. I have found my example!
This is the creepy version. This is the one that has you on your guard as well as the edge of your seat because this is a dimension where irony exists; where twists of fate occur without any conciveable warning...where justice is delt with a not-so "blind eye" as much as it is with an intended purpose...and where the deserving ultimately "get what's comming to them." Are you next? Well...there by the grace of God go I...so beware.
I wish they kept this theme throughout the whole series because it's more otherworldly than the famous one that everyone knows. This music is dreamlike, mysterious, eerie, ethereal; completely in tune with the spirit of the show. Whereas the famous theme is just creepy. Not that I'm saying the famous theme is bad - I love the famous theme - but I think this theme is definitely better Twilight Zone music.
@Emper0rH0rde I agree! I watched this when I was a little kid. This intro actually chilled me. The music & especially the creepy cave! I liked the other intros too with the famous theme music, but none of the others even come close to this one.
Respond to this viGuys, does anyone have a version of just the DIALOGUE (ie. excluding the music) of the NARRATIVE introduction ?? Thanks dudes..........
It is the sheer simplicity yet eerie depth of this intro that makes it so good. I mean, you don't have floating doors or eyeballs flying at you. Plus this intro has those cool illustrations and the music was awesome in this intro.
THIS is the opening theme that SCARED me so as a youngster. It is FAR superior to the "dah-dah-DAH-dah" intro that replaced it. YUK ! ( GREAT SERIES ! )
This is also my favorite intro. For me, its not so much frightening or menacing as it is other-worldly. And, like others, I too am immediately transported when I hear this. Suddenly, its no longer 2010, and I'm not in my early 30s. Its 1988, I'm ten years old, and its11:30 pm on a Saturday night. I'm down in my basement with my brothers watching WPIX channel 11 out of New York. "The Honeymooners" has just ended, and the school week seems a long way off.
For me its back to 1995 , i was 4 and my dad would watch TZ every night on tape, (im pretty sure he had all the episodes on over a dozen tapes). This intro, and ending SCARED me so much i would hide under the blankets until it was over. Once we moved in 2001 my dad stopped watch TZ as often.. Ahh i miss those times
I remember KVOS TV out of Bellingham WA used to show Twilight Zone at 12 Midnight on Saturdays immediately followed by anywhere from two to three hours of Doctor Who.
Broadcast television just went downhill from there.
Man, these were the good ol' days, i used to sit infront of the tv watching this and get all horny, so i usually fuck myself or anything front of me, one time it was the maid. LOL, she sure sued my ass off if you know what i'm say'n
There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone

Herrmann's opening theme to the 1st season is far superior than the more familiar theme that replaced his during seasons 2-5.

IMHO these series were the best. The Stories later begin to lose it focusing on the " Space age ". Guess the " Outer Limits" was competition...

I prefer this intro over the other one, the song is alot more creepy, the other is cool but gets annoying
