You can achieve a Benassi bass sound also by doing this:

* make a 3xOsc

* on the first page, make the top wave a Saw, turn the volume down on the other two

* on the env page, select hi-pass filter, turn cut all the way down, turn reso all the way up - we have a really warm saw synth now

* on the misc page, select Mono and adjust the Slide to taste (lower = faster slides between notes)

* to get notes to slide, you need to have them overlapping in the piano roll (not starting in the same place)

And if you want the reverb-without-sound effect, put this bass into a Mixer track and put a Fruity Send on it (you can't just use the send dial for this trick), make the send go to any send 1-4 that has a reverb on it (this reverb MUST have dry set to silent), now the reverb will get the full signal no matter what the volume level you have the bass at in the mixer, so you can fade it in for a neat effect.

Portamento? Alright, go the 'Misc' tab under Channel settings, and turn on the 'port' light. Then you can adjust the slide time. Hope this helps!

OK, here's an example. In my track Dangerous Fumes, I used a rough 3xOsc synth with port on it. To do this, I clicked on the '3xOsc' box in the step sequencer and the channel settings popped up. Then I clicked on the 'Misc' tab and under 'Polyphony', I turned on the 'Porta' light. In order to REALLY make it snap, I also turned up the 'slide' wheel (this is a guess-and-check process).
