  • Probably one of the funniest Geico commercials. "...so stop calling me!" *licks eyeball*

  • I could swear there was a commercial that was before this one, where people were calling his house.

  • OK, got this from a 'stright dope' site, "He was originally to be voiced by Kelsey Grammer, but the SAG went on strike when the ads were to be dubbed. The CGI however was finished and could be used regardless of the actors strike, and an English voice over actor named John Wood (a resident of London and thus not a member of SAG) did a voice over dubbed onto the commercial."

  • I had heard it was an imitator and Grammer's people threatened to sue. I have not verified this though.

  • Is this like his father or something? Lol XDD

  • looks like a live gecko

  • i can't be the only one that thinks that Kelsey Grammer didn't do that voice

  • I KNEW IT!!!!!!! I tell my friends all the time that the original gecko did not have a British accent... so they scoff and just say I'm crazy. Thank you for posting this thus helping me dish out some long over due face rubbing! Lmao!

  • It's like comparethemeerkat

  • The early "aristocratic" voice of the Gecko belonged to multiple people, including 'Frasier' actor Kelsey Grammer. It's possible this is his voice here.

  • @brtmnrd it is

  • nobody i know can even remember this version of the gecko

  • Holy shit I'm 20 and I barely remember this.

  • I hate, hate the voice of his now why did they ever change it from the first one. the commericals now I hate my ears bleed with his voice its horrible change it back then maybe well switch car ins.

  • @smkpisces I remember when they changed and I was mad!

  • they should play this at the superbowl for a surprise

  • He didn't go from British to Australian, he went from "posh" to "cockney".

  • He went from British to Australian... how does that work?

  • @KyleJPie10 Magnets, more than likely.

  • @CellarDoor06 harharhar icwutudidther

  • I´m Heiko, not to be confused w/ geico, which can save you hundreds or more on car insurance.... ;D

  • sweet cursor

  • No one I talk to nowadays remembers the old gecko, I feel like a geezer and I'm only 25.

  • i like the one we have now better no offense

  • HE LOOKS BETTER! :D

  • OMG. From 99,000 views to 230,000 :-O THANK YOU CRACKED.COM

  • Birth of a legend...

  • I remember this, yo.

  • I miss the original Geico gecko, not that cockney douche.

  • So compare the market just completely ripped this ad off?

  • I remember the first commercial when they changed the model to the modern gecko. was so disappointed.

  • first he hates giceo, then he works for them? wahtz up with that!?

  • @cobeoe ; Actually, there are a series of commercials that explain his employment. In one of them, he auditioned against the Taco Bell dog for a chance to be the spokesanimal.

  • @cobeoe ; Actually, there are a series of commercials that explain his employment. In one of them, he auditioned against the Taco Bell dog for a chance to be the spokesanimal.

  • ewww that was gross when he licked his eyeball disgusting

  • sucks

    its shot from your tv

does anyone have the 1999 geico gecko commercial with a little bit of terminix commercial in it?

  • this is back when the gecko didn't have that annoying accent that makes me mute the TV

  • I wish there was a clash of the geckos.... the current Geico gecko bumps into Kelsey Grammer's gecko and...*abruptly cuts to the slogan*... "Geico... 15 minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance."

  • @rkmugen amen

  • @rkmugen That would be awsome.

  • אני אוהב את השני יותר טוב, אבל זה עדיין מצחיק.

  • Ah, Kelsey Grammer did this during the Screen Actors Gulid strike.

  • Right now GEICO commercials now is annoying and too nauseating. I really hate that spokesman wearing a suit. He's really annoying and those cutaways.

  • Now he's a fucking little corporate tool. Irony.

  • Kelsey Grammer Gecko! Awesome! I wish Kelsey Grammer was still the Geico Gecko!

  • no, he was posh in a few. the one with the answering machine was the second commercial(also posh), and the premier of the gecko was of a wrong number caller looking for geico interrupting his shower. this commercial featured on this page was actually the third in the series.

  • Man. Now you have to think if the gecko is real. Back then, y'all KNEW that it was fake.

  • Oh my god, I remember this.

  • Oh Lord, how long has it been?

Since I first saw this commercial, I've always liked the Geico gecko, even when his voice and appearance changed. My mom and I remember this very well.

    "So stop calling me." ;-)

  • Who woulda thought that over a decade later they'd still be using the Gecko. It's sad, really.

  • Wow yes, It is the same person who did side show bob voice

  • I still remember these commercials!! like it was yesterday!

  • man goodtimes i remember tthatt!

  • lol he looks so different now!

  • This commercial scared me when I was young

  • Those were the good ol' days. Back when gasoline was 1.20 a gallon, and we didn't have to sit through endless speeches by George Bush.

  • lol, i like how he looks so much more like an actual gecko here, yet i like the new ones a lot too, hes very cute both ways. :D

  • I was right!

  • Excellent! I also preferred this one, I still remember this from a long time ago!

  • Nice, but this isn't the first one. In the first one, the gecko is in the shower and has to jump out to answer the phone. It was a wrong number. "You want Geico, not gecko." This one is the follow up to the first one. That's why in this one he says, "so stop calling me."

  • Aw I remember these days! Before the Gecko was "spokesperson" and he was just annoyed that people kept calling him Geico... I feel old.

  • ...well i guess Frazier was a better choice than the mailman (John Ratzenburger) or Norm....:)

  • Here is the only geico comercial where he is posh.

  • @Highice007 yeah, i guess so =)

  • @Highice007 yeah and one of the few where the Gecko is English and not Australian

  • @Krismann He's still English, just with a cockney accent, like the chimney sweeps in Mary Poppins.

  • i impersonated that gecko in a skit that i did in the 6th and 7th grade.

  • Wow I remember these!!

  • he's more lizard-like in this commercial. later on he became more human and unreal, but he is by far the best geico spokesperson- no, the best spokesperson ever!

  • lol, i remember this one! He's so different now

  • Kelsey Gramma played the Gecko? That's cool. He has a cool voice.

  • If it wasn't for the Screen Actors Guild Strike of 1999, this gecko would not have been created. You can tell it was created in a haste. Creating a gecko out of Geico isn't very creative. But a caveman, that was creative. Honestly, some of the best ideas in history was created in a haste. On a side note, it is sad how low British society has come. They go from ruling the world with Kings and Queens that were relevant, to voicing a gecko selling car insurance! You can't help laughing at it!

  • Not only that, but someone deserves a pat on the back for recognizing the market appeal of this character, and making him their mascot instead of a throwaway joke. He gave a much needed face to GEICO, and helped people remember the name to boot.

(Also, I believe the British still do rule the world, but that's a comment for the conspiracy videos here!)

  • I miss this gecko.. the new one is annoying. Better graphics obviously but he was better when he didn't want anything to do with geicko... and his accent just fit better

  • This was Kelsey Grammer's voice... I have no idea who voices the new voice... I miss the original 1!...

  • yerp. kelsey grammer from err frasier :)

  • @ryuouji Jake Wood

  • *gecko.. And he doesn't sound aussie.

  • I liked his voice so much better. The gecco now is so freaking annoying. They sould give him bad teeth b/c he sounds like a geeky british freak with bad teeth.

  • I remeber this. Out of all the car insurance commercials Geico has the funniest.

  • Wow 1999? It's been that long now? Remember this commercial like yesterday and the gecko along with all of geico's commericals sure have changed.

  • Wow I haven't seen this gecko version in years! If you ask me I prefer this one over the new one. God I miss the old days when the TV shows AND commercials would capture our attention for a while.

  • Bullshit, today's Gecko is cute and hilarious. Did you see the one about the dolalr or the temp?

You angry curmudgeons are lying to yourselves.

  • @ TheCrononautMusic l agree with you!

  • i liked this version because he was more animalistic, yet with a cultured voice. funnier than the current one but i imagine having less potential. this was done by grammer btw.

  • as far as i know, this is the stage in the GEICO gecko's life when it was voiced by Kelsey Grammer, star of Frasier? also, some nasty skank in a leopard print dress turned me down in a club tonight. pfft... it's not even like i asked to see her tits like i usually do.

  • engilsh sound gieco have better than the old one

  • xD i love both geckos.

  • Wish they would bring back the old gecko these new commercials make it where i'd never call Geico.

  • o.o I forgot his voice sounded like that!!! *is slightly creeped out* the original gecko is better for several reasons....the biggest one being he's more realistic in appearance and in the way he moves...he was suu much more awesome xD;

  • The old one is alot better than the new one, the old one was actually somewhat funny.

  • I also saw this in 2001

  • I liked this one better. This was funny. I hate the geico comericals now.

  • i totally agree!

  • their comercials...

  • @Rob6203 yeah the commercial humor now is just awkwardness

  • @Rob6203 i like some of them

  • that was the gekko before he was rich lol

  • lol i remember that!

  • Comment removed

  • thats kelsey grammer

  • i love the one where the geico gecko (a giant day gecko) meets the leopard gecko and is talking very eloquently and then the leopard gecko just licks his eye =P

    ----genius

  • @SeanTheReptileGuru YEAH! Remember that one. I also still love the cavemen one: "I don't have much of an appetite, thank you 0_0"

  • @wizardsofclay hahaha. "i'll have the roasted duck with the mango salsa"

  • Yep...the gecko sold out. :)

  • They ruined the gecko when they changed his voice.

  • hell yeah they did

  • they sure did.

  • WORD!!!!

  • @jhwink Strange, I liked his new voice. They also changed his appearance.

  • great quality. You couldn't see the detail in the mouse cursor on TVs back then.

  • This is my all time favorite one!!!!!

    stop calling me....sluup

  • Ditto!

  • That's scary! That Gecko's really changed!

  • Suddenly he decides he IS with Geico after all and becomes Australian.

  • xD whats next the end of the world?

  • I like the new ones better, but this one is a classic.

    KDDProductiones

  • Holy shit, I remember the first time this commercial aired. Thanks for the post lol.

  • ur welcome:)

  • That microphone is an Shure SM57

  • As should you.

  • alright i might have overreacted.

  • that sucked ass

  • ha i knew his voice was different and upset :D

  • owned
