  • Actually, Bizet wrote another symphony, the 'Roma' Symphony of 1868-1871. Which I marginally prefer over this one.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

  • Fantastic!

  • Bizet wrote but One Symphony but how brilliant it was!....

  • Wonderful music. Just heard a masterful performance by the San Antonio Symphony. Joy joy joy!!!!

    Amazing ending.

  • First oboe was indeed very good during the whole symphony.

  • I love love LOVE this movement so much.

  • I heard a classical music radio announcer describe this symphony this way: " And now for Bizet's Symphony in C, his First Symphony, actually it's the only symphony he wrote - but it's a corker." It's a corker, indeed.

  • @lynktalz Actually, Bizet wrote another symphony called Roma, it doesn't get played at all.

  • @LeeGeorge08 Thanks for that information. I listened to the Roma Symphony and think it's a beautiful work. His Symphony in C is more lively which is perhaps why it's played more.

  • Sehr schöne Musik

  • Bravoo Bilkent !

  • Adoro questa sinfonia!!

    BRAVI!!!

  • Excellent performance; BRAVO!!!

This on one my favourite "first" symphonies.

  • A most enjoyable performance! TY!

  • Bizet hated this as an adult didn't he, what the heck, I absolutely love it. Beautiful, exuberant, joyous. Affirmation of young life. Eternal sunshine of glorious summer. Makes you want to dance.

  • Balanchine agreed.

  • @tairanotomomori Actually, most musicologists I have read say that Bizet seemed to have forgotten about it completely. I can understand that - it was likely an assignment piece (he was 17, and midway through his studies at the conservatory), and when I was a young student in the university, I had to write assignment pieces every year, most of which I never kept, and don't recall today.

If you recall where you may have read that comment, I'd like to seek it out myself.

  • wow...the tempo is amazing! we could not play anywhere that close at our concert.
