Resistance bands are a great training tool. I always bring them when I travel overnight somewhere- they're really portable, and give your muscles a nice "pump". I don't use them all of the time, but they are a nice way to add variety into workouts!
A chin up, since you are using primarily your bi's... they are great for your arms, not as much for your back. Keep working on both for a well rounded workout!
the best way to start to do pullups/chinups is to work the negative portion (down) only. Get a bench and put it under the bar. Jump up to the top and slowly go down in a controlled manner. Continue this exercise for at least a month. Then try a full one again. You should definately see progress!

what would you consider the handle in the middle the 2 other handles to be? a chin up or pull up?

You're very welcome! I hear from a lot of people that have hurt their shoulders from either pullups or bench presses done incorrectly.
