  • ROTHFLMAO Christian non christian, pagan music???LALOL Kerry "wandered in the desert" The progression of Kansas albums is Christ guided/inspired/IN-Spirit lyrics and musical masterpieces. "Wherever two or more are gathered in my name there I will be also". Lest we not forget Steve Walshs' "All the World":

  • I'm a little confused by your disjointed comment. It seems as though you have a few valid points to make but you're comment is very cryptic and maybe makes sense to you but.....

  • Hey paganguy, it must suck knowing there is no faith in your miserable life. How about understanding that people have faith you intolerant fagggg. God is the center of many good peoples life. If you dont believe keep it to yourself ya stupid intolerant liberal asshole.

  • Get off the technical BS. KANSAS rocks. If they used the wrong instruments then You try it. If not, GFY.

  • I love this album as well. When in high school I burned this one up. The opening of this song reminds me of the Disney Electrical Light Parade....LOL.....Doesn't make me love it any less.

  • Scroll down through my uploads to find a recording of Rich and Kerry's guitars isolated from the 1978 Canada Jam mix of "Lonely Street". A bit of dead air in the beginning but then the raw power of those two and their back and forth on one of my favorite blues/rock tunes.

  • Christ is Risen and Holds the Keys

Your fallen master is headed for disaster

and misery, Jesus is the Light of Life

and King of Kings. When He returns all

will bow to Him on their knees.

  • Satan is The Wisdom of the World.

  • You're a bit misguided but that is the way of the Great Deceiver!

  • @rickyon

Really? Interesting... Explain how I am "misguided" and you are not? Because you're mama tells you so?

    Keep going....

  • You think you can suck me into a Satan vs. Jesus battle here but it's not going to happen. I just expressed my opinion as you did and we obviously disagree! Let's leave it at that. You sound as if you're ready to get personal and possibly derogatory. This is not the place for that. You know what this music means and what it's about so please go to another post and be a troll or whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish with this baiting tactic that you are attempting to use here!

  • @Paganguy1 . wow!! lmao... really?? we all know about kerry's religon. but y do so many people make this into a god/devil thing... f'n kills me.. the bottom line is from 74 to 80 walsh n livgren wrote some of the best music ever!!! here's a suggestion... JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC!!! ric.. as always ty for posting all this stuff. one of these days i'll get u the canada jam vid to u....

  • Awesome song and i can't help beleive that this song was written for the Glory of God and a desire to see a little glimpse of Heaven!! Check out the lyrics. Ty for the post.

  • You're welcome and I believe that you are right.

  • @okdawg84- Part 1-Actually...Kerry Livgren in his Book "Seeds of Change" tells that at this time in his Life (in his "Spiritual Quest") as he was delving in Eastern Philosophies, thought he "Found the real meaning of Life" in "Urantia", in-turn, many of the songs on Monolith are reflections of those beliefs, it wasnt till on Tour w/LeRoux that "Jeff Pollard" were getting into serious debates on Christianity. In 1979 Kerry became a Christian, and "Audio Visions" lyrics reflect the change :)

  • Part 2- So basically, any song about "Spirituality" on previous albums were on his road "To" Christianity, so the songs are very prophetic. Even "Dust in the Wind" was coming from Eastern Philosophies. I dont mean ANY offense to anyone, secular, pagan, atheist or Christian, I'm Christian and have read Kerry's Book about 5 times, reading funny and historical stories of the Band, but also using it as a tool in understanding my beliefs. Kansas was always deeper than most realized ;) Prog On all.

  • great song, love the album cover aswell :)

  • Not all albums can be Leftoverture

  • The production is what sounds bad on this album....The songs are great, the rhythm guitar sound is really twanky and sounds like a suffocating marshall...

I am a great fan of Kansas though..Steve is from my home town, and I always support the best band ever when it comes to Rock Music...

  • This album always gets trashed by Kansas 'fans'. This song is proof that the album really does have alot to offer.

  • This is one of Kerry Livgren's finest masterpieces from any of Kansas's albums. The album is loaded with brilliance!

  • @rubicon1983 Monolith is a great LP, however it does sound like it could have made "after" Audio Visions. Masque, Leftoverture, and Point of Know Return were three heavy-laden Prog Rock LPs in row. I believe Kansas were trying to temporarily deviate from their prog rock roots and create a more straight ahead rock LP. Audio Visions after Monolith seemed to capture more of the classic Prog Rock Kansas sound.

  • @Feinmess

Yes. Well put. You know, in the mid-80's(?), after John Elefante replaced Steve, (OY!), I was listening to an FM radio station in my area, (that's what you did back then, you listened to the FM radio for the rock), and I think it was Kerry saying, in an interview, "We were always a 'garage-band', I don't know why people associate us with 'Yes' or 'ELO'... maybe it was the violin..."

OR, maybe it was because you were always prog rock? Be proud of that! Great bands, like this are rare

  • KANSAS---"A GLIMPSE FROM HOME"

  • rickyon you rock for uploading all these Kansas vids! xx

  • Thanks!

  • I appreciate the journey down memory lane *smiles* I think I've seen Kansas on every tour they had...Hell even drove to Texas (ye gads) to watch them perform! One hell of a good band!

    Peace: Morph

  • Morph, I've posted songs from a lot of live bootlegs from Kansas. You may even find one that you attended. You should scroll through the uploads and really take a stroll down memory lane!

  • Happy Birthday, old man! I sent you some Viagra. Enjoy! :)

  • You would think that Saints don't need Viagra.

  • This album rescued my mind, which was stuck in the mire of Christian Rock, which seemed to be less able to deliver powerful creative statements. I met this guy in a record shop, who had a golden Gibson electric, and wore a long black coat. He told me about this album, and I went out and bought it. If I was stuck in a world without music but one, one album, it would have to be this one. It is, my all time favourite.

  • i had a guy in the army who said he'd go gay for jimmy page. i laughed in his face. but i can understand it too to a point. walsh is a badass singer. you fall in love with the music. mick jagger and steven tyler are both ugly bastards, but look at all the tail they pull.

  • KANSAS---"A GLIMPSE OF HOME"

  • rickyon, can you post how my soul cry ? I don't have the cd nor would I know how to post it.

  • I'm not gay or anything, (not that there is anything WRONG with that!), but I would totally "do" Steve Walsh.

I would totally pull down his little jogging shorts and have a sexy time with him.

    Is that wrong?

  • The fact that you feel you have to tell us that here in the comment section is wrong!

  • @rickyon

I'm sorry. It was a little joke... I love the song and I love Steve Walsh, is all's I'm sayin'

Don't get your panties in a bunch over it.

  • That's OK but there you go with a gay reference again (not that anything is wrong with that). You sure you don't want to come out of the closet here? Walsh is the best singer ever so I can see how you could go gay at the sound of his voice.

  • @rickyon

HAHA! Yes! Ver y good, sir.

But, I gotta say, if I was gay, I would have no problem coming out of the closet. I tried dudes and I tried women... I liked women better!

But what the hell! Who cares? It's all just a big comedy sketch.

    Don't you think?

  • Absolutely!

  • @rickyon I just nominated rick for sainthood.

  • Thanks Debbie but you don't know the half of it! I could tell you stories just from the bands that I was in that would curl your hair (if it isn't already curly, in that case it would straighten your hair!) Why don't you just wish me a happy birthday. Hurry, it's over in 3 minutes!

  • @rickyon Hearing this awesome song again just made me feel tingly all over - Happy Belated Birthday :)

  • That may be under the category of too much information! Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  • @Paganguy1 no but your gay.

  • rickyon can you post how my soul cry? I don't have the cd nor do I know how to post it.

  • One of my favorite Kansas tunes! A masterpiece... Thanks for posting it!

  • You're welcome.

  • OK Rick, I've been instructed to learn this piece as part of a collaboration cover so I'm using your video post toward that end. This is classic Livgren. In their early days when Kansas first toured England, the Brits called Kansas and Styx music "pompous rock". It may be a bit pompous but I love his writing. It's challenging, spiritual, thought-provoking, and memorable. Thanks Rick. for all you do.

  • Dave told me he was doing this soon. It's in my top 5 Kansas songs. This was the very 1st video that I posted on You-Tube. I was flabbergasted that no one had posted this song so I learned how to do it and posted this song. This is one of many Livgren pieces that has everything. Orchestral parts, hard rock, heavy guitars, soaring vocals and harmonies, great rhythm section. It also has that Native American feel that somehow shows up in a handful of his songs.

  • such an epic ending! It just goes to show how much modern day bands can't match the power of a band with a violinist! Kansas will be missed after they're more recent downfall. I personaly think that after Audio-Visions(the next album) the band crumbled.

  • dude!, you obviously haven't listened to them much lately. Sure they can't match the glory years but to say that they have crumbled doesn't jibe with what I see when I watch the "There's Know Place Like Home" DVD. They still very much kick ass and blow most bands away that pass for popular now days.

  • what i meant to say was, i know they're still awesome, but it's sad to de how things went down(like steve going through that drug craze, and kerry/dave leaving for a while, and not being able to hear that classic violin of Robbie and such)like on Icarus.

  • KANSAS - "A GLIMPSE OF HOME"

  • classic !! kansas is amazing!!

  • Yeah Rick even the albumn art was better back

    in the day.

Half of what I have is because the cover was cool

I like all the Space-Indian art on this one

  • i'm not really a big kansas fan, but this is one of my favorite album covers of all time, the iside album says it all, karma's a bitch. peace.

  • I think this imagery was meant to show the downfall of the people who took away the American Indians land (note the crumbled remains of the raised highway) and how they destroyed the earth (astronaut suit implies no more breathable atmosphere ) Also it implies the survival and re-emergence of the American Indian in their rightful place in their land ( however damaged it may be)

  • I love the ending section of this song. Sounds very Genesis-like

  • Kansas rules! Leftoverture came out when I was in 10th grade. Changed my life. And my songwriting.

  • This is classic Kansas!! Kerry Livgren has done it again!!! Thanks!!!

  • You're welcome!!!

  • =KAWABUGA= KANSAS ROCKS USA !

  • Walsh was Great. Still IS : )

    K is a Band !

  • Original rock legend! Long live rock!!

  • a KANSAS MASTERPIECE kerry might have wrote it , but all 6 play it and walsh's vocals are just icing on the cake! but will he get credit? doubt it!

  • He gets plenty of credit! Everyone knows that from 1973-1981 he was the best singer on the planet!

  • Great Song. Was Great Live in '79. Awe Sum !

  • this wasn't on here last time I looked......great tune

  • This was the very first song that I posted when I started making vids here on you-tube. (I guess you can tell that I hadn't figured out anything yet!) It is the reason I started because no one had done so! I've since learned to do a few things and posted over 200 videos. I've posted a rare live version of this song as well as many other Kansas songs, many of those live through the years. Scroll through the pages of my videos and you,ll find many gems!....Rick

  • ¡sensacional!...simplemente magnífico

  • I said were, they still are. Let me correct myself...

  • All six of these guys were excellent, what a band!!!

  • Fantastic, classic rock that stands the test of time!

  • Great song from the Monolith album. I remember listening to this on cassette in the early 80s. I also owned the vinyl LP, and this album was also my first CD purchase in 1989, along with Song For America.

  • You have excellent taste in music. Check out the rare live version of this song that I've posted from 1979 as well as all the other live Kansas and studio cuts. I've also posted a lot of great 70's stuff. Enjoy!

  • Kerry is an awesome guitarist AND keyboard player

  • wow i haven't heard this in like i mean since the early 80's wow i miss this so much .awesome tune i always love how my soul cried out for you. the thing that sticks in my head is that shandolier dropping and the reaction is wow!!super.and a super cut right here.!!!!cheers

  • I was wondering if there were other Kansas fans who appreciated this song. It has stuck with me all these years as a reminder that there is something higher to perceive, that it gives such a rich vision of this existence and the life after this one. It's my personal anthem. Thanks for posting this song!

  • You're welcome and well said! This is in my top 5 Kansas tunes and the deciding factor as to whether I would post on you-tube or not. When I couldn't find this song I thought why? This should be posted over and over it's such a great song. It was the very first thing I uploaded when I got started a little over two months ago. I've posted many Kansas songs and will continue to post many more. A lot are live and there's even a live rare version of this song. Enjoy!

  • Thanks for posting my fave Kansas song! I've always wondered who plays the churchy organ @ the beginning and end of this song, and what keyboard it is

  • You're welcome. I'm not a keyboard player (just a drummer) so I don't know what kind of keys are used when. I do know that Kerry said in an interview that he is the one who plays piano and synthesizers and Walsh plays the Organ parts(Hammond B-3 back then if I'm not mistaken). I don't know if that helps or not. Check out the live version!

  • Not really, but I they the credits on Monolith are just vague! The Kansas CDs before stated organ, piano, and synths. Or organ, piano, ARP and moog synths

  • The Piano, ARP (Synthesizer) and Moog (Synthesizer) are played by Livgren. The Organ (Hammond B-3) is played by Walsh. Does that clear things up?

  • The synth @ the beginning sound like a Yamaha GX-1

  • The synthesizer is a Yamaha GX-1. The Solina String Synthesizers would be not used after the Monolith tour. Kerry and Rich were a great guitar duo. The best guitar duo in American rock. I apologize to Allman Brothers fans. Rich Williams' country picking style of soloing was a great counterpoint to Kerry Livgren's Jimi Hendrix meets Eric Clapton style of guitar playing. The rock music from when I was 3 (which means 1979) sounds better than the shit out today.

  • I knew that, cause John Paul Jones plays the same type of synth on In Thru the Out Door and it sound similar to the intro of A Glimpse of Home

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but I THINK Walsh played one of the analog synths. I think the mini-Moog was Livgren's, the ARP was Walsh's.

  • Hey Jon, I really am out of my element here and what I wrote earlier was from a statement that Kerry made in an interview. I've since learned that what he said was a very generalized statement and that Walsh indeed played synth and piano just not very often. I'm a little lost when you start talking brands and models. On the credits for Leftoverture Walsh is listed as Organ,Piano and Synthesizer and Livgren is listed as Piano, Clavinet, Moog, Oberheim and ARP Synthesizers.

  • What they play varies from album to album. For instance, Kerry and Steve both play organ on the 1st album. STeve plays an ARP synth on the 2nd, except moog on a few songs. Kerry plays ARP, and moog on a few songs. Masque has both of them playing moogs, but only Kerry plays an ARP

  • I do. I first heard it on a CD my dad has. It's called the Ultimate Kansas. Sony should remaster this CD. 30 years and strong!

  • It's like going back in time when rock ruled! Great tune! Kansas is an American original!!

  • If it was not for some guy with a golden Gibson in a Christian record shop in 1979, I might have not had the joy of hearing this album and the audio visions and seeds of change that saved me from losing interest in the dried up well.

  • Best tune from Monolith. Thanks for the Upload. No video of this exists to my knowledge. A live version from 7-4-79 exists from Alpine Valley, WI

  • You're welcome! Do you have a copy of the live "Glimpse"? I'd love to hear it. This song is in my top 5 from Kansas! I imagine it was tried on the Monolith tour which accounts for the July '79 version!

  • I happen to have that recording myself, if you're interested. I admit, I haven't listened to Monolith very much... Probably due to my infatuation with The Pinnacle :P

  • I'm interested!!! What form is it in? I have to warn you in advance I'm what is known as the proverbial "old dog" so if it involves torrents or using megaupload or some such service I'm a little challenged if you know what I mean! Still thanks for responding and you can contact me here or on my channel page!

  • Just tell me how you want it, and I shall deliver. Whatever method of transfer you prefer is fine with me. And whatever codec (if you have a preference). It's unfortunate that more do not share your enthusiasm for Kansas...

  • I do!

  • I love this tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hmmmm.... Good song, but I can't help but notice that with each album Kansas started using the violin a lot less often. Anyone know any possible reason (or if I'm just going crazy?)

  • You're not going crazy! Robbies parts vocally remained as frequent but his violin parts though no less frequent seemed to have less prominence and he had fewer solos.Must of had something to do with the writing? Take your time with the video posting! School is more important! Rock on and great taste going with the prog rock! Nothing beats it!

  • Amen to that! Prog Rock seems to be the best for me. I can't help but love the deeper lyrics--you actually have to listen or you will miss something incredible!

  • This came from Monolith ? Right ? You could make a little improvement on it, by showing the band doing the song. I used to have this on vinyl.

  • The picture with the song is the Monolith cover to the CD. I would gladly post a picture or a video of the band doing the song if one existed! If you know of one please send me the info!

  • I agree! I was mystified why this hadn't been posted and it was the first thing I uploaded when I finally figured it out! Enjoy and spread the word!

  • Thank god someone finally posted this.
