  • these guys are noobs I could beat any one of them 1v1 as bowser

  • this was posted that long ago? well shit my bad then, for some reason i thought it was around march. whoops

  • wow, these people arn't even that good, pit just spams and does neutral air while marth just does neutral air as well, theres no good dodging skills or strategy with these two

  • What do you expect? This was like a few days after the game came out. This video came out feb 5th '08, brawl came out Jan 31st.

  • But these noobs on youtube expect these players to be good BEFORE they take off the plastic packaging. lol

  • The best part of his comment comes by counting all the Nairs in Pit's first life. I'm pretty lazy so I didn't count through the rest, but you should do it and see just how perceptive Pawnbroker is.

  • when exactly was this tournament Superglucose? was it right when it came out, because then its almost excusable but if its like three months then this is just cheep crap

  • Reading comprehension pahil. The video was posted Feb 5th, 2008. Brawl came out January 31st 2008 (the Japanese version). So at MOST it was five days after the game came out.

See how I did that? Math? Notice how I posted it in my first reply to you? I can' tell you exactly when the tourney was, but I can give you a 5 day window.

  • While we're at it, anyone know where I can find some recent tourny videos? All I'm getting are ones from around this time.

  • There's about 500 Brawl videos on this portal much more current than this one. Just do a search. =)

  • pits counter pick = pikachu & dedede

  • 5 rounds yeahh..

i alwayss thought marth would win

  • the guy really new how to play pit and the game in general

  • lol end = fail

  • Marth still won but, in the beggining pit was just standing and waiting for you to approach, then boom your hit with a F-smash, a few counters placed in there would have been helpful. But only 2-3 since he will eventually start grabbing you.

  • Why try to Edge Guard against Pit... It's Pointless I'm sorry he glides... Up B all of it...

  • he's actually not all that hard to edge guard when you get the hang of intercepting him

  • but with about 7 jumps and ur up+B u can be smart R cancel... and fly back to the stage unscaved...

  • I hope you're kidding.

    1. He has 3 Midair Jumps.

    2. R/L-Cancelling have been removed in brawl.

    3. After Wings of Icarus, if Pit is hurt, he can't do it again until he grabs an edge or reaches the ground.

Tip: If you want to sound smart, do a little research first. :)

  • Also, how would R-Cancelling even benefit edgeguarding? (All of this is directed towards PheonixPimP411)

  • Ok, R/L Cancelling I meant push R midair... but he he can also glide back to the stage... [which wasn't mentioned] UpB is used in case of emergency.... u can Glide attack to counter someone intercepting... Point blank I'm sayin; Pit is THE HARDEST to intercept and its more of a lost tryin to attack him in the air...

  • have you heard of a little someone named metaknight? i'm sorry but there are plenty other characters who are difficult to edge guard and the majority can't even glide. while the glide attack is very useful it doesn't make pit THE hardest to edge guard.

  • That is true I forgot all about Meta...

  • i don't get what people mean when they say you can do an upB out of a shield; i see it being used, but it doesnt work for me, can someone tell me how to do it exactly? does it only work for certain characters?

  • that marth is pretty good

altough i didn't see these guys dodge in the air or ground a single time in this match... it would be a hell of a lot easier to connect

  • dang 5 rounds and not even 1 ken combo!

  • Why hasn't the Marth been using counter?

  • i was wondering that too...if your talkin about countering the arrows then i guess its because the arrows are too fast

  • cause counter is too slow and opens you up for attack

  • unless you counter

  • If you hit him while he's using UP-B once, he can't use it again. That's not ridiculous. Also, Pit's Fair isn't as spammable as Marth's Fair. Also, Marth doesn't get multiple jumps. Also, Pit's forward smash isn't... y'know. When did Marth ever need projectiles? Psh. The list GOES ON

  • how does the glide work? b/c it seemed that he could have tried to do that instead of just hoping his side B would be enough to get him to the edge.

  • its free flying, not a smart move if you can avoid it.

  • No, glide is a helluva lot better. Go watch the Shuffle & Cut tourney vids posted by getyourtournament. LMNZ is the champ.

  • Y'know, I didn't even realise he was using B-forward to reach the ledge. I haven't seen him reach the ledge ONCE with that.

  • I use the normal b move to get to the edge

  • the pit is a very unrefined player strategically i think. The marth player definately played alot of marth in SSBM though. Pit just walked into alot of set ups i guess.

  • what the? He could have came back?!

  • if pit gets hit during his Up+B he can't use it again.

  • I think that if you get hit a second time you can use it again though. I'm pretty sure I did anyway.

  • but if you watch his last stock, it looks like pit wasn't able to use it again

  • Gimped

  • Gimped

  • lol what an ending

  • The tounraments player should really step up on the offensive game, less on the defense. That is most likely the result of that melee syndome though, all those mind games being played...Hopefully tournament players will realize that these aren't necessary and the game can get ALOT more exciting. Which is most likely why Sakurai made the game more "floaty" in the first place.

  • btw dabestbrawler learn how to speak english, you sound like a wanna be thug 7th grader.

  • up b out of the shield for marth is kind of lame...just sayin cause a smash rival of mine uses marth =P

  • Aww, I was rooting for Pit ;_;

What an awesome match though! I was on the edge of my set! X3

  • L Cancelling and Wavedashing are completely GONE. Time to find some new glitches.

  • Yeah! We should completely get rid of the veterans of Smash. Which are more than half in Brawl.

    ...

  • lol this is round 5 and Pit won the first time because Marth couldn't predict his moves. Marth showed the most improvement and Pit showed no signs of confusion on what to do. Marth earned this victory.

  • who r top tier characters now, and is there like L-cancelling, wavedashing, fast falling, and edge hogging?

  • yes theirs edge hogging and fast falling, but no L cancel or Wavedashing...Tiers are not known nao...

  • in all matches i was repeated the same... marth must use down B... this matches has been touched by an angel...

  • Thi DC guy has to challenge me i think ill take it 2 him unless hes not up 4 da challenge

  • lmao, I can tell there's gonna be a lot of noobs like DaBestBrawler wanting to play the top players in Brawl in the future. stop being so cocky when you probably haven't even played yet.

  • its cool its not like dabestbrawler's epic fail will ever make it on youtube for us to see...but if it does im going to love seeing him get obliterated rofl! marth vs. nubcakes

DC will be like..."lets set the match timer for 1:00...oh crap 45 seconds more than i needed...darn"

  • "yo but u cnt see me doh gimme ya wii code nd ill fukkin own ya shit u worthless peice of shit dick sukkin peice of human horse dick u cnt see dis u fukkin hillbilly white trash faggot " is nub talk for i dont know what to say so ill just put random curse words in to make me look cool.

  • LMFAO XD

  • LoL @ "I might not have played brawl yet but..." from somebody named "dabestbrawler"

    =)

  • The guy's words pretty much owned himself anyway. That was just unnecessary.

(though I would have done it myself)

We'll see him eat his own words in a few months, OR have him fade away into silence, ignoring that this ever happened...

  • everyone thinks they r the best these days

  • thats true except if they beat every player of thet subject which is almost impossible

  • u sound like ur speaking another language

  • wait so tourney r fo real money?

  • Wow. If this was the last match, I feel REALLY sorry for DEHF :'(

  • I don't understand why DEHF doesn't feel the need to take advantage of everything Pit offers. He KNOWS that if he rolls up onto the ledge, Marth is gonna shield and ^B him; he's been doing it throughout the final matches. Pit has FOUR jumps, a glide, AND Wings of Icarus. Jump backwards off the damn ledge, don't roll up. It's OK. You have plenty to get you safely back to the stage.

  • right from the dojo release of pit i knew that he was gonna be an awesome character!

  • Pit is so Top Teir.

  • There was a SERIOUS lack of gliding in this tournament, but a fantastic one none the less.

  • They just got the game. They aren't used to gliding, give it time.

  • D.C. did win the tournament.

  • Does Marth still have his spike? Are there ANY spikes remaining?

My hope is that there are only Meteor Smashes now.

  • Yeah, Marth still has his spike. ^_^

  • Ya, I've seen Ike use a nice spike before. (Might one day be known as the "Ike Spike", who knows...) Although Ike, being one of the few characters that was left with an inferior recovery move, might be at risk when attempting spike kills, or maybe not. I Don't know exactly what happens to him when he misses with an aerial downward stab

  • not exactly inferior but lacking in x range yeah, its good for clearing an edge before you grab

  • falco still has his spike

  • I couldn't tell from your answers if you were aware of this or not (i should've clarified in my question) but

A spike= a meteor smash that CANNOT BE METEOR CANCELLED

So given that, are there still spikes in the game?

  • ya i havent played the game but from what i saw ive seen falco and marths spike.

  • *sigh* i don't think you guys understand. You cannot determine if an attack is a spike just from watching the game.

You have to have played the game (or heard from someone who did) to know if there are spikes (translation: meteor smashes that CANNOT BE METEOR CANCELLED)

  • It's the fact that they can't be meteor canceled taht we know they are spikes when we are watching.

Cuz I've seen matches where people get spiked at 40% or lower and don't cancel it so it has to be a spike, also these were people who were good at melee so they should know how to meteor cancel.

  • ohhhhh i see. Thanks for clarifying Rjay ^_^

  • ok im sorry, u are right, im not a scrub i know this. i dont know why i tryed to judge that by watching it, you are so right. i assumed it was because they didt recover, but ya ur right.

  • I'm assuming you're being sarcastic but I can't tell for sure (curse you internet)

But you know I have a point. For all we know the reason these Melee pros aren't meteor canceling is because the timing in Brawl is different and they haven't adjusted yet. It doesn't necesarily mean they're spikes.

You guys are probably right that they are spikes, but I just want to be careful when drawing conclusions from videos. Sorry if I was unclear.

  • ya the internet is gay, but no dude im not bein sarcastic, i shouldnt have assumed that, im not a noob, im better than that i just jumped the gun. but ya i just thot the guy would have recovered.

  • they are still getting use to the game i mean give um some slack lol. took me a good while to get down the mechanics of melee and it will be the same with brawl. in 7 months (or faster for the pro nerds like me lol) u will be able to know everything about the game and know where your opponent will be in a half-second b4 they get there. :D ~nice fight again guys u two are so fun to watch duel :D~

  • Don't believe in all these guys, marth's dair is now a METEOR, yes, a METEOR that can be cancelled, just try.

  • a very hard one to use

  • Actually, when compared to melee, there is no METEORS in this entire game. Every single one is a spike, it's just many (such as marth's) have been toned down.

  • What have I learned today... 1: avoid hittng marth with a running ground attack or else he'll do a shield + Up-B. Anywho, I've been meaning to ask (prepares for Marth fans to flame me) if anyone else thinks Marth is the most boring character? All he does is swing his sword in 20 slightly different ways, ya?

  • Fun to play as, though.

  • Hey does anybody know what the music in the background is?

  • It's the remix of the Animal Crossing title theme. Song N01, I believe.

  • That is a really good Marth IMO, considering that the game has been out for hardly any time. Can't wait to see what the standards for high level play are in a few years time.

  • So did DC win the whole thing, and if not who did?

  • damn this game sold 500,000 copies on the first day of its release in japan, and 820,000 in the first week.

  • nice shot at 1:06

  • Nice match.

  • I think the fact that the more you use a move the less knockback it has is absolutely retarded. I'm just gonna not think about it maybe I won't notice while im playing...

  • Why? It's largely considered a good mechanic. Especially in a game with as much diversity in movesets as Smash.

It's good for multiple reasons. It forces players to come up with multiple approaches/holes and defenses to the opponent's game. Another important point is that it greatly reduces the possibility of infinites, or the chance of a single move becoming the sole object of a bad character match-up.

Games like Guilty Gear, and many other fighters, do it too.

  • It can also help to combo, since you don't want to knock the enemy so far away so you can hit them again.

  • true

  • I think it's a great addition too. Somewhat forced variety means less scrubs.

  • you do not have to use a move over and over... change your moves abit.

  • As long as you don't spam the same attack 3 times in a row you shouldn't feel a difference

  • LOLOLOLOL at 3:20

  • looks like pit makes edgehogging obsolete

  • I think then the best strategy to take out Pit would be to KO him out the top of the screen.

  • i love pit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you watch this entire series you can see the differences between games DEHF made marth approach him and when he approached marth. Pit has some good close moves that should be used, but because of the arrow and pit's incredible mobility, these should be situational, primarily in counter to an opponents approach. The mobility lets pit get in stronger positioning, and arrow disrupts attacker's plan. Especially vs marth who has no projectile.

  • EXACTLY. I can see Pit being an EXTREMELY annoying character.

  • As long as nobody's projectile is as good as Falco's, I'm content with it. ;)

  • His arrows can be stopped by at least Marth's fair and Snake's grenades because I saw it in other vids in this tournament. So, I imagine Marth should be able to bat them away.

  • arrows can be blocked by almost any A move, just like all projectiles in melee (excluding Pika Flash, Pika Thunder, Dins Fire, and at least one other I forgot) can be blocked by a variety of Marth's A moves.

  • Well, Pika's Thunderjolt (neutral B) can be stopped by A moves or tilts in Melee.

Pit's arrows resemble Falco's laser in appearance, so it's good to know they still count as parryable.

  • What the hell are "Pika Flash" and "Pika Thunder"?

  • I imagine he's talking about Pikachu's neutral and down B. There aren't too many other moves that could be associated with names like those >_>

  • PK Flash and PK Thunder are psychic moves from the game "Earthbound"

  • Yes, and they're not called "Pika".

  • and this whole time I thought it was "pika"

  • he means PK Flash and PK thunder. some people can be so dumb

  • Pit also looks awsome

  • When Pit gets knocked out of his UpB, is it gone for good like when Snake's Cypher gets hit?

  • Snake's Cypher can be re-used after he is hit out of it. There's a glitch that you can grab the cypher and it completely disables him from using it again for until the first one goes off screen.

  • IN MY OPINION... pitt might have had a better fight if he used his light arrows when him and marth were at a distance, i guess to kinda keep marth offbalance and on defense instead of on the offense the whole fight

  • I'm pretty sure that's how you're SUPPOSED to play Pit, by spamming arrows and making your opponent play by your pace. You can even do it off the stage with complete impunity!

  • i agree with magnomanx. Pit seems to fire his arrows fast enough so there's no reason he shouldnt use that as the heart of his offense to control the pace of the battle, especially since its 1 on 1

  • NO ONE TELLS LARRY LURR WHAT TO DO!!! lol

  • howcome Marth's "up B" shoryuken thing is so powerful in this vid? is it because he's doing it after shielding or something? Does anyone else see a difference in power or is it just me

  • In melee, marth's upB had a sweetspot that gave it pretty good knockback. This looks to be about the same.

  • You have to realize that they havent had the game for a long while at all... Give them about a month or so for them to start getting really good!

  • Still can't figure out what's so special about Pit, besides flight.

  • i feel like pit's a priority is pretty crazy/dope.

  • Glen I can't see the stock

  • Wow, DEHF already has really good control over Pit's arrows

  • Well, it is kind of hard to hit somebody if that person is trying not to get hit. Common sense...

  • LOL, "hininininih" *Pit dies* GAME SET!

Pit does look cool though. Takes a lot to KO him, doesn't it? Just keeps coming back from the brink.

  • lol did i see a wavedash attempt in there DC :P

  • items is pretty fun, especially against good players. I believe there was a FFA japanese tournament with items starring pro players like Aniki. playing tourny rules every single time gets boring. change it up at times...keeps the game fresh.

  • Plus, Pandatration.

  • ugh elitest fags.

Play the game however you want to, if Sakurai wanted everyone to have to play on every stage with items on, he would have made it impossible to turn items off. Play the game however you want to, and don't criticize others for doing any differently. Holy shit.

  • Holy shit, let them play the way the want to retard. They have fun too.

  • It is really funny how you don't even see the inconsistency in what you're saying.

    1. They don't have fun? Then why are they playing?

    2. You tell them to have fun, and yet you restrict the "fun" to characters YOU want them to play?

    3. They ARE playing more stages.

    4. Why should they turn items on? It's no more fun to turn them on IMO, and they're just getting a feel for the game without item interference.

  • very well stated

  • Go away

  • Wow did these guys practice before the tournament or did they just pick it up and start playing?

  • we did some FFA and double matches before the tournament, but most of it we're learning while we were in the tournament

  • Lamest ending ever

  • It just came, and people are already this good. Amazing!

  • Actaully, The members Of This Tournament Were Just Well-Known Melee Players And Tournament Winners. That's Why They're Kicking Ass!

  • Really, That Is Very Interesting Sir. Thank You Very Much!

  • Ha, Can't Tell if That's Sarcasm Or Not, But You're Welcome.
