  • im suprised with evidence like this the government is not doing more with laser weapon technology

  • 1:27 - Got the same results with High Voltage, as i made the rock heat up to glowing hot and conduct it on a small spot. The same shiny black material, with some white flaky precipitate around from the vapors. The black stuff is amorphous glass basically, just like Obsidian is. Awesome vid.

  • @MAGNETixFLASHER

The diode came from ebay, they are not cheap, most need water cooling or will burn out in no time. You need to provide a power supply and lenses, as well as good quality safety goggles rated for this kind of power.

  • shit the lens fucking broke!

  • @138NProgress

Yes, it blew. I did this on purpose as the lens had a small flaw from dropping it on the floor. Normally I use a small computer fan to blow all the burning fumes away from the lens and laser. I turned this fan off, and sure enough, crap got on the lens, the laser superheated the crap, and the lens blew. Cool!

  • @billg519 man i thought it looked pretty fucking amazing haha. im very interested in this stuff. im trying to learn how to build things. i started with a 5v power supply lol i still have alot to learn and i just learned how to read resistors fun stuff... really love this.

  • ok so i need to know!! where can i buy a laser burner for less then $200?? thats decent, and not take 5 seconds to light a match

  • @xCezium137x

    I sent you a PM ...

  • @billg519

Try the suppliers in the PM.

  • Impressive. Is the buzzing noise caused by the power supply or the heat on the surface of the material? Also, the lenses look like they only focus in one axis. Is that because this is a diode array?

  • @mheermance

Buzz is the transformer in the power supply, an 8V 150A with a loose frame. Just needs a quick weld. Yes, the lenses are as you stated. The diode is an array, so I need to squeeze the line down to a spot with cylinder lenses.

  • THAT'S WHAT I CALL A POWEFUL LASER!!

  • Dude, I feel sorry about your lens, you shouldn't have left it exposed like that..:/

  • @demonibs

Was done on purpose ... Usually a fan is placed to blow smoke and debris away from the final focusing lens. I shut off this fan for the video.

  • So, looking into this is a bad idea right?

  • @ExpertOfSound

Would be more like ... last idea.

  • that is, indeed, motherfucking awesome

  • Quoth "Real Genius"

KENT: "Remember to always keep your optics clean."

  • plastic rocks ? : )

  • I dont know anything about lasers. Just about RC Cars :D Can you tell me why at 2.34min your lense or what it is , broke apart?

  • @RetaliatedRC

It was allowed to break. The fan that blew smoke away from it was turned off for the video, allowing the lens to gather dirt and explode. It was fun.

  • Holy cow, that's powerful! I dearly hope you're wearing IR goggles!

  • @henrik2706

I have proper goggles for me and anyone with me.

  • Haha - that is awesome!

  • can u try smth else instead of boring ass rocks? Like lithium batteries, water, oil, mirror (reflecting the laser to somewhere else).

btw, what do you put at the other end of the laser? considering it can burn through anything?

  • @cybercrashx

Beam is terminated on a ceramic plate backed by a firebrick.

  • So cool.

I've heard that lasers can drill more efficiently if they pulse rather than do a continuous burn. Not sure how hard that is to do or how rapidly it should pulse. Does this sound right?

  • i wana see wha it does to ants

  • @sleepyz0mby sick freak

  • Can you use this laser to cut through the door of a bank vault? I need to know.

  • @bcrocker2k

Not enough power, lol . Too many cords and stuff needede as well. Not portable at all.

  • Bill, I have been experimenting with my diode, and thinking of using it in a cnc application for doing 3d imaging on stone. I would like your opinion on this mater. I am new to posting on youtube. How do I get in touch with you?

  • ok ............5 stars this is the movie that actually DEMONSTRATES a high powered laser doing damage aka what ive been searching for for 2 years

  • This thing is crazy !! can it pop balloons and light matches?? lol

  • it can burn through marble....

  • marble is only calcium carbonate nothing much

  • hey whats the point of that glass lens anyway... it look like a normal peice of glass

  • the out put from the diode bar is a line and not very good at burning the lens focuses the beam from the diode to a smaller point for better burning , it does look line normal glass but its curved to bend the beam to a small point

I think that's what the lens does .

  • Oh sh!t!! I thought my blu-ray was nice, geez. LOL

  • Dust from burning got on lens. This caused local heating of the lens surface, and temp difference blew lens. Should have used a small fan to blow the dust to the side rather than letting it hit the lens.

  • @billg519 why does it need the lenses? isn't it focalized into a thin beam by it's own definition of a laser?

  • @billg519 That's what I was thinking.

  • Dayam!

    Why'd your lens explode?

  • because theres 60Watts of concentrated IR light on it lol :p

  • Um, no... if you read above my comment, you'll see that Bill already answered my question. :p

  • @likmahchoda

Could have, should have used the smoke fan, but I turned it off and let the smoke hit the lens. Lens overheated and exploded. Fun.
