  • actually i think that the tree character is rendered in real time but the backgrounds and everthing else is rendered in cg. I think this was made to show how a real time character could interact with fmv cg. they kind of used that tech in resident evil remake. that why the character is so detailed because they are actually using full capabilities of the system to render him. while just using fmv cg backgrounds.

  • Id just like to know when CG starts and ends, But I do see some part where its clear its Pre rendered

  • Lighting effects and textures like a N64?

    Yeah, sure..

Probably to someone who's just 17 like you the N64 is still shrouded in those sweet childhood memories, but in reality the N64 (which was awesome and STILL is my favorite console of all times, mind that!) didn't exactly look like that.

Anyway most of this video is PRE-RENDERED CGI, played back as FMV on GameCube. A small portion of it (specifically something in part2) was rendered real-time, and that is not debatable, IT'S FACT.

  • is the wii this powerfull?

  • i dunno, maybe if somebody actually tried, we could see if the wii looks as nice

  • Most of 'Rebirth is PRE-RENDERED CGI,

played back as FMV on GameCube. A small portion of it was rendered real-time (in the other video). That is not debatable, it's fact.

END of that part of the arguement.

But as for the real-time portion, *what* was it rendered real-time *on*? Perhaps an early GCN Dev-Kit or prototype? Or a PC/workstation with hardware unrelated to the GPU in GCN (the ArtX-designed Flipper) ? MixCore & Nintendo never totally clarified that.

  • ACTUALLY

it is a mix of real time and pre rendered, but this was done not to fool you, but to see if you could tell when it changed

its definitely not noticeable when casually watching, i believe mixcore later came out and said it was running on the gamecube

  • It is largely CG, a tiny portion (in the second part of the demo, where the tree gets up after falling over) is real-time. It was a demonstration of the console's graphical capabilities, but mix-core said they would have done the entire thing in real-time if they had more time to do so.

Picking apart the different effects used, I'm pretty sure they could have replicated it in its entirity. The assets aren't typical of the quality you would see in pre-renderings and very much reproduceable.

  • This wasnt in game graphics, it was an fmv. the tech demo was to show that the gamecube could play high quality and lengthy fmvs which the n64 couldnt.

this is far more detailed than the gamecube could ever do but its still an impressive fmv

  • whats the point of this, most normal people know that the GCN was the most powerfull console last gen

  • The music is beautiful *___*

    oh and of course,incredible video.

  • this is definetely in-game. no retard would show a CG trailer, because even the ps1 can hold rendered stuff.

  • It's one thing to render a detailed old mans heads it's another to render a old mans head on a equally detailed body in a detailed environment. After this was shown, many developers pointed out it's doable but would cost a fortune and some things wouldn't be achievable in playable game environments on the Gamecube for years.

It's sad publishers now wont spring for these type of visuals even for a next gen console.

  • i HIGHLY doubt it. What's your source anyway?

  • nintendo recently showcased a game behind closed doors, and it was called 'the lost woods', and this exact video was shown, and then there was a HUGE upgrade made, and it showed that this was wii gameplay, and it is actually a new series nintendo is starting, and it will have the zelda characters in the game, and the graphics from this CG demo have been massively upgraded

  • No.

No they didn't showcase such crap.

Whats your source for this information?

  • LOL Retards attempting to lie!

  • Resident Evil 4 is the only game that Prove this tech DEMO IS REAL...

Too bad most Wii games looks worse than this...This even looks better than some Xbox 360 LAunch games....

  • this was NOT made with in-game graphics...It's just a (fantastic) FMV.

  • No. This IS in-game play, it was the gamecubes full potential of the hardware.

  • Absolutely NO, it's pretty obvious that's CG.

  • What do you think tech demos are?

Its a demo of the hardwares capabilities.

Its not CG, a demo of CG capabilities is pointless, its not showing the capabilities of the console.

Look at other console tech demos, like the PS1, that was a T-rex thing, which was clearly testing the hardwares graphics, it wasn't CG.

A tech demo is to show what the console is capable of, its not CG.

  • Silent now?

    Just look it up.

Technology Demonstration. Thats what tech demo is, not CG demo.

  • @Mdk7 CG = Not tech demo = You're doing a great job at being a hypocrite.

yes this is a real time tech demo of what the gamecube can do.

but this is not the greatest presentation since lighting effects like these were done easily on the n64, and and the textures also look such as a n64 game, the only high technical process seen in the video is most likely the decent models.

So yes this is a true tech demo.

CG is a video made from a more powerful machine.

and this my friend isn't good.cg.

  • @Mdk7 It looks just like the Forest in Rogue Squadron 3. The funny thng is that everytime I show someone a picture of the forest from Rebel Strike, they tell me to stop showing them CG and show them what it really looked like... >_>

  • hah there still isnt a game with such advanced graphics on gamecube.. i have that console and i know :D

  • no u don't because if u did u would have played resident evil

  • Okay, even resi 4 doesn't have the graphics that match up to this.

People constantly exaggurate over Resi 4, its not got that great of graphics you know, this is tonnes better.

  • it is a tech demo that nintendo makes to show the power of the gamecube, the movie tell us how nintendo learn from them mistakes and how with the gamecube would try to make a new way, remember the problem with squaresoft and the N64 casettes, nintendo learn a lot of things then.

este video simboliza como nintendo aprendio de sus errores, por los problemas que habia tenido por las malas decisiones que tomo en el pasado, fue hecho con el harware del cubo en tiempo real

  • Absolutely beautiful. I'd give anything to see this made into an actual game.

And wow, I had no idea this version existed.

  • thats GCN ?

and think the Wii is atleast 2 times that!

  • @Lassic

The Gamecube could do something like that, it did not have a dense OS, it has 48MB dedicated towards system ram and shared with video ram. The PS2 only had 4MB of video ram and 32MB system ram...

  • Gamecube has great graphics, it realy pissed me off EVERYONE in school use to make fun of the gamecube about how bad its graphics were while they gangbanged the ps2. but the whole time the gamecube has much better graphics than the ps2! ps2 has bloody the same graphics as dreamcast lol.

  • the Dreamcast was more powerful then the ps2 just look a DOA on the dreamcast and the ps2 and the you will see what i am talking about the ps2 lighting very bad when put up to the dreamcast.

  • PS2 and DC have diferent strengths. Dc suports Anti-Alising and full scream Mip-maping and photo-real textures and had a better soundchip. PS2 has more memory, DVD and a greater draw distance. What is stupid is DC had killer games when it launched but PS2 had crappy ones for a year and a half and poeple bought that instead of DC just because the Saturn didn't sell too well.

  • Sega also wasted a hell of alot of money sopnsering the Champions League in PAL teritries instead of advertising on tv and paying stores to give them more space like sony did. A lot of poeple had no idea the DC even existed here!

  • Thats one of the reasons the Dreamcast went down but the main reason why it die its because it had no DVD player in it and the ps2 did. you see in Japan no one hand a DVD player but when the ps2 came out EVERYONE had one and DVD shops started popping up all over Japan and in the U.S. all most everyone got it because it was a cheap DVD player that played games and it has the sony name on it.

  • I thought the PS2 had deficient RAm....isnt that why it was hard to dev?

  • I know what you're talking about! The GC had GREAT potential, but the problem was, there weren't that many games on it... That's the sad thing about it...

  • it was just a demo, but it could've been made into a game. extend this level, make tons of other levels, make the story make sense, make power ups, make a control scheme, etc.

nice... just wow. if this detail could be done on the gamecube, imagine the true power of the wii. to clear this up, the demo was also able to run in 45 frames per second.

  • GC had such a potential for good looking games, but no one made them sadly. The most impressive GC games i have are Pikmin 2 (HDR, soft shadows, interactive plants) and the Rogue Squadron games (impressive detail, good FX, massive amounts of action on-screen). Also funny how the Wii isn't really more powerful than GC, and the games for both are mostly cartoon style looking games, like for example Zelda and Mario

  • yeah, the gamecube was indeed good, but very few actually used it for all it was worth! This game looked amazing, and seemed to have great characters and in general charisma!

  • Gamecube couldn't do something like that because it has a very limited amount of memory ram. But the potential was there... add a lot of extra memory and you can do amazings things with that hardware. The GPU is very impressive.

  • The desighn for the GC didnot follow a conventional design, as far as I know almost everything ran straight off the disc and was reloaded as needed so they didn't need that much ram.

  • What a shame that most developers didn't use the full power of the gamecube...

  • If this is can be done on the GAmecube, than imagine that ultimate power of the Wii.

  • I hope they remake this on the Wii. But, is there another part to it or something?
