Didn't look TOO dire to me...my ex wife was a cat hoarder..had lots of opportunities to see ugly behavior between cats. This was no more than a dominance thing. We don't see what they do otherwise...when the orange tab walked away, that's when the fur woulda flown. No ruffled fur, no claws bared, no back teeth showing. Not even a loud meowing match. Someone just had a bad day.

You can never assume from one video, it's like judging the famous on bad paparazzi photos. For all we know this is only an occasional thing and they often snuggle and groom each other. What they need is more space, to be let outside and given more room to claim. Three cats is a lot if the house is only medium-sized. Rats do this two, had two sisters that didn't fight, just boxed, sat on each other, and stole food, but slept in the same hammock and cleaned each other's ears.

@RatongaBruiser I know cats very well and I understand their behaviour. The way these cats interact show me they would only tolerate each other from a distance. I guarantee they never snuggle up together. I hear cats fighting outside a lot and that sound sends chills down my spine. I would never just watch and let them do it. As you say, they need their own space but certainly should be broken up if a fight ensues.

They are highly stressed and this kind of behaviour can resort into very unpleasant brawls over territory yet they share this house. The right thing to do is separate them before it gets ugly. So you see the funny side to pitbull fighting do you? Same thing on a much smaller and less violent scale.

@kitten23kate I appreciate there is always agressive play. My cats play very agressively and when one isn't in the mood they hiss and growl. But this particular 'stand off' vocalisation is stereotypical of cat fights, not stroppy play. They only do this as part of their 'fighting' ritual. I am quite surprised at how many people aren't aware of proper cat fights. Just check some out on youtube, you'll see what I've been trying to explain.
