Ive been on a ton of diets and experiemented with tons of supplements. Eating right has the ability to stop lack of energy and not wanting to move out of bed. It does not seem to stop anxiety that is triggered from being around others, or those people afraid of elevators and so on. Supplements cause an adrenaline rush because they posion the body, and they end up leaving you weakened or confused after the adrenaline rush is over. This herb and nutritional crap is pesudoscience.

The St. John's wart is awesome. It works great. I agree the the foul smell can drive you up the wall every time you set loose a burp. However I found that by crushing it up, and burning it the smell is extremely calming, and encouraging, and is more sweet, and musky. I experimented with it on a group, and it allowed them to stay calm, and get along, even in extremely stressful environments, and under strange circumstances.
I really like your videos. It's so great that you are sharing your information and personal experiences with anxiety, depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, etc. Please keep making these videos because you really help me since we have such similar mental issues. I feel better in the winter. I am a vampire and h8 the sun. i don't sleep at night. I drink tea to feel better. Someone calling me back for a job would make me feel better too. Meds will take away your abilities and make you dumb.
I just wanted to say that I like your videos and in this one you provide those of us who struggle with anxiety and depression with some good advice and positive reinforcement. Also, there is this nature stress reliever called Rescue Remedy that a therapist told me about. It may help you.
Hey I just started watching your videos recently looking for some answers I am a SI and I wanted to say thankyou they have been a help to me by helping me cope and learning how to talk to others about it. You're awesome and I wish you the best. thanks
I actually feel better in the winter because I can cover my chest up. When I get nervous, I break out in a red rash so I can cover that up in the winter.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
And the guy is right go to councelling, you dont have a strong enough personality to overcome this situation because you are weak minded and influenciable, thus creating your own depression and anxiety. Keep whining you will find results, maeby in 2054.
You clearly don't know her at all. "Weak minded" is the LAST thing she is, trust me. You have no idea what youre talking about so kindly shut up. Yes attitude makes a difference but unless you know the person how can you comment on their attitude? You are so wrong
I actually do go to therapy, I don't know where you get off telling me what to do and commenting on my state of mind or personality. While you are so keen on giving ME useless advice, I will advise you to pick up a dictionary or use spell-check before commenting, and also pull the stick out of your ass... before 2054.
hi, have you tried meditation yet? I would say it is one of the best natural remdies. I had been in depression during my college life which I didn't do well. Of course, I hid and pretended that I was ok but I kept finding to solve the problems I was facing, although it was in early stage. I knew that I was depressed and would get worse in no time.
Apparently, I didn't want to it get worse. I found " meditation" before I stepped on to any further therapy. I don't really feel like antidepressants help. Maybe everybody should give a go with
"meditation". Do more research about it. Many psychiatrists and scientists now believe that it is one one of the best cure for depression. It is nothing diffcult, but you might find it a lil annoying when you just start.
I have really good meditation guding audios which I found thru internet. Plz let me know everyone who reads this is interested. It really helps somehow. Peace and love.
I would absoloutely love to watch one of your videos on body image issues. I'm stuck, not sure what to do anymore and it's having a major negative impact on my life. It would be great if you could manage that! xox Sammy
I can do that, sure :) I need to figure out what kind of body image issues I want to cover... If you have anything specific in mind please let me know.
Maybe how to just make it easier to be happy with your body, even if someone's big.
I'm not sure really, I've struggled with anorexia, bulimia and over-eating and I think it's all caught up with me and I'm now obese. It hurts so much and I guess I wanted to hear your thoughts on it.
have you done a body image video yet? have you had any problems in the eating disorder area? Kind of wondering just because, i see a lot of people with ED's self injuring as well.. I started cutting when I didnt throw up my food on time.. then i ended up with a worse SI problem then my ED.. ok sorry, now i am just rambling..
i just want to say that if anyone is taking an antidepressant, and is thinking of taking st.johns wort, you should talk to a pharmacist or your doctor, cuz even though it is herbal, it might be harmful.
You aren't a failure! That's a really good start, everyone has setbacks but just start again tomorrow. Take it one day at a time, and focus on the positive fact that you have racked up so many days clean, and not that you had a relapse. It's normal. Take care.
You are no failure! You can trust me I went about the same amount of time then had a set back, or 2 or 3, and felt the same way but hard times come and go and just because you have 1 set back is no failure. In fact I have heard some people refer to it as a reality check. So, keep hanging in there and know that you have a whole team of people behind you to catch you each time you slip. I am sure you will get through this one day! Good Luck! :)
It can really differ from person to person, depending on which season it is. Just overall I have heard winter and the lack of sunlight makes people more depressed, but if you have seasonal affective disorder or something similar, I suppose it doesn't matter what season it is. Hope you're doing okay.
Agreed. People with depression or anxiety need to see a doctor, but these tips are just for people who have tried other medication and might want to opt for something a little more natural. My advice is not to EVER be replaced by a qualified, professional medical doctor.
I've been meaning to get a light-box. I don't get HORRIBLY depressed in Winter but I definitely find it harder to get up in the morning, and I feel down more. I want to move somewhere sunnier. Been meaning to get a light-box or something that simulates natural light.
I also tried St John's Wort but it seemed to make me seemed to phase out more than usual, and have weird mood-swings.
Thank you for mentioning all these organic methods. I don't want anti-depressants but I think I will try St. John's Wort if I can find it. On another note, I notice you wearing that necklace a lot. It's really really pretty. Can I ask where you got it?
Let me know if you find the St. John's wort and how you like it, I know what you mean, I don't want to take medications anymore so it's a good alternative. As far as the necklace, yeah it's my favorite! I made it, I make lots of jewelry, it's kind of like a side business!
:O You make jewelry? That's amazing. If I lived near you I would definitely buy some of your jewelry. I probably won't be able to go to the pharmacy until next week since I don't want my parents to see me buying depression medication but I will look for it as soon as I find a good opportunity to sneak out. =P
I sell it mostly online so if you ever want to check it out send me a message and I will link you! As far as the medication, you can also get it at places like walmart so you should be able to get it without much issue! :D Good luck!
haha thanks & I already messaged you a while ago just saying hi or something. =P so if you remember by the time u get around to answering my message than you can include the link. =)
Ah, okay! I only check messages a couple times a week and there's a limit on how many I can reply to at one time so I will get back to you asap :P Sorry!
ok, so i am very interested in the whole "natural" and "erbal" remedies idea, I hate taking medication of any kind...i wrestle with myself to take ibprophen.
Do you have ideas for anxiety and specifically head achs? I notice when things arent going so well, I will get head achs multipule times a day--if it ever fades away-- Any advice?
I would love to see another video to hear more about your ideas on natural remedies for depresswion and anxiety, as I don't like to take prescription medication.
There are herbal tablets called Kalms which you can get in the UK (not sure about anywhere else) which relieve periods of worry, irritability and stress and also help promote natural sleep. They do taste and smell like wet dog because they have valerian in them(not that i know what wet dog tastes like!) but if you can get over it then they do kind of work-helped relax me while flying.
Hi Christie, I might have posted this exact same comment on your channel, but my computer is a bit off and I'm just not sure. So here is my question. How are you doing with self injury? Is recovery something you can see in the near future? Also how is your book coming??
As far as I know (I am a pharmacy tech so more familiar with rx meds than herbal supplements so I won't swear to it) St. John's Wort works similarly to SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, to increase the neurotransmitter serotonin. If it works the same way as the rx drugs it will take several weeks to get optimum effect, so don't give up on it if there's not a difference instantly. I have been silently following your vids for a while and you're truly an inspiration. Stay strong =)
Haha, it's funny that you mentioned being a vampire 'cause that's exactly what I was gonna say for why I don't go out into the sun. Same wavelength, much? I think we should just be vampires together and get a light box!
I've always been curious about St. John's Wort and might give it a try soon. Plus, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go outside every once in a while. ;)
I wanna hear more about these other wacky remedies!
and sorry about your sound quality, that's really weird! what's weird is that it appears to be random, instead of a constant buzzing or constant error..it just fades side to side, gets quiet.. normalizes and stays okay.. hmmm
I agree, I think people slap "Disorder" on everything. It's annoying, lol it's like telling a bear that they hibernate because of a disorder, just because you get a bit sleepy or nostalgic from lack of sun doesn't mean it is a disorder. And Hey! I'm in Washington too :)
wow st johns wort I have heard of that I might take them a try shit might as well Im on buspar right now and yes it seems too as its just a temp thing but yes I would love you to do a vid on tips and your experience with stuff that would be great.
Ha ha, I love the little blurbs that pop up in the video!
I used to use St. John's Wort before I was on anti-depressants and I did find that it helped....BUT I've heard that it can make the birth control pill less effective, so keep that in mind! ...someone mentioned something about Kava...as far as I know it's been taken off the market, but maybe that's just here in Canada. I used to take that too but they don't make it anymore here...I forget why. Make sure you research it just in case.
lol, I love the annotations feature :P It helps me not look like such an idiot sometimes! haha.
I haven't heard of Kava but a lot of people are saying it makes you tired, so I would still recommend going with St. John's Wort if it works for that person. If it's off the market in canada then it's gonna be off the market elsewhere soon! Thanks for the heads up!
omg girl vitamins are great and not just vitamin D all kinds of them are good for lots of different things and disorders look them up and try them I can tell you yes they work.
Hey I'm not sure if you've heard this already, but there's this new thing about nbananas being a cure all food- supposedly there's been lots of research to suggest that it help relieve anxiety, depression, it's good for mood stabilizing and good for improving your cholesterol and blood pressure, etc. This is good news for me, cus I love bananas. AND I saw an ad for the new Banana nut Cheerios the other day! yum! =) lol
I love bananas too, actually. That's good to know, I should pick up some more of them and do some research. So many fruits have health benefits, people should eat more of them and less junk. Maybe I'll do a video about superfoods and stuff for mood. Thanks for the tips! :D
But as far as anything with a screen like computers or tv is not so good to help your sleeping habits, because when doing something like that it can make the time get away from you therefore you will end up staying up later then you mean to, but reading weakens your eyes and relaxes you even more! BUt that is just one way to do and sometimes it does not work! Sometimes when I do it I end up staying up just as late, Because the book is soo good and I just cant seem to put it down LOL!
haha, i have the SAME issue with reading a book before bed, I sometimes can't put the book down even if it does make my eyes tired! But it's good to stay away from the computer, video games, tv (etc) before bed to wind down, it helps with anxiety and insomnia. Thanks for the tips, they are helpful, especially when you've had personal experience! Take care :)
Well I feel so much better now that it is spring! But that also could be because I have no more stress of school! LOL! I feel opening the blinds helps a lot! It just makes the room look positive, therefor making you feel more positive! I also find that if you are having anxiety at night then it helps to drink a lot of water and kind of walk it off around your house or something! With the sleeping problem I also find that drinking something warm cals you down and so does reading!
Pay attention to the comments? Oh, I most definitely read every single one :) I am glad there wasn't anything wrong with the video itself, you never know! my webcam has been wonky lately! :P Take care :)
I live in Oregon so most of the time it's dark and raining and in the spring/summer I'm not as miserable. I'm not sure if it is just because I can finally get out of the house or whatever but it's definetly nice
I've heard about vitamin D, I think I might give it a shot..the sun seems to be helping me a bit too. I'd love to hear any other tips you have :) Have a good week!
for insomnia, depression, anxiety and OCD, you can try tryptophan, it's natural like st john's. it is found in meats and cheese i think. i use it for OCD. i think it takes the edge off it and makes it less severe. you can get it in caps or powder, i suggest getting the caps that come with vitamin b, that somehow helps it work.
st john also comes in different forms, i have smell-less caps. :)
and someone i know who has insomnia said tryptophan really helps him sleep. which is weird cuz i don't have insomnia and i don't get at all sleepy with it. :D
Really? How long did you take it until it made you more awake? The issue with Valerian is that if you take it too often, it has the opposite effect, its usually about 2 weeks, though it was a few days for me till it started to do that, so I seldom take it now. Its not really something you can take all of the time. D:
i only took it a few times, and each time i didn't have that edge of anxiety, but that sleepy feeling in my eyes were gone. it could have been because i just had insomnia those nights, and it didn't affect me at all since i don't have insomnia every night. melatonin did a similar effect.
Thanks for the video. I've been looking for tips to fight Anxiety, cause i really need myself and my life back. Today i went to buy supplements to help me relax (5-htp) and (melatonin) to help me sleep. I've tried St. Johns, but didn't work just made me feel nausea.
In St. John's, NFLD, where I live there's no such thing as sun. There is fog, less fog or rain. In the house or all day or not, I'm left a miserable outcast without sunlight. lol
LOL I feel ya... This comment made me laugh for some reason, though it's not a funny situation the way you worded it was. Time for you to get a sun lamp :P
Amazing as always i stoped ridding the buss (Tinted windows) And i sat in the middle which basicly mean no sun light during the day cause i'd stay in my room most of the day and i stoped riding the bus and walk from school to my house and when im walking it doesn't make me alot happyer but just a litte
Very informative video. I think sunlight makes me feel better but I definitely dont get enough of it. I will have to work on that. Im sure these tips will prove very helpful to a lot of people. Its all worth trying anyway :)
yes yes yes! love tips! i need them! lol im gonna try st johns wort and i might try the valerian root. i've tried Kava in tea form before and it acually works for relaxing, you cancyually feel it in your body its pretty cool i might get some of that again
I'm taking Valerian root right now in my tea before bed, it's actually helpful in relaxing me... I should try this Kava you talked about. Thanks for sharing!
its so great you finally got another video up, I know all the problems you've been having =/
Anyway, I would love to see a video with more anxiety/depression tips. Though I've really recovered from my major problems these last few months (SI free ^_^) Lately I've just been a total spazz about school and exams, to the point of minor panic attacks so any tips you might have would be awesome!
As always, love your vids and thankyouthankyouthankyou (I'll deffo see if i can catch some sun this week)
Congrats on being a few months SI free! What an inspiration! Good on you for that :) I am sorry about your anxiety, I know how that goes. I shall put a video together with more tips and I hope it helps a bit for you. Enjoy the sun this week and take care :)
Also, I hope you don't mind but I wanna be a bit technical here in regards to the lamps. Those lamps also help with fatigue, because what it is, is that there are receptors in the back of the eye that react to blue light, they help create a chemical which makes the mind more alert. Everyone feels like crap when they're tired as hell, right? So it'll help make you nice and awake. The lamps simulate the blue light thus why they're blue. Gah, char limit. Maybe that helps some understanding ^_^
Thanks for getting technical! I am glad you did, thanks for the information on it, very interesting! I should try out one of these lamps and then show you all! :)
No problemo. It sometimes helps to know the background behind this stuff. You should go for it. :D I used to be pretty much permanantly exposed to sunlight [yeah, in England, haha!] because I was out all of the time, but since I stopped going out, I got more fatigued and depressed, blue light definatley helps! To think, this was all only discovered a few years ago! If you try it, I hope it works for ya. :D
Hey I appreciate you watching me for so long! Can't believe you're not sick of me yet! :P lol, thanks though. I am glad I am not the only one who likes the sunlight, it really does improve mood! I've heard the GaGa comparison before, I like her hair, I totally nabbed my bangs from her style lol, not gonna lie! (sry the 1st time i posted this it was from my other YT name!)
i dont mix well with sunlight, my eyes are way too sensitive, plus sitting in the sun gives me a headache, haha i'm doomed, although i guess the pill form would work
Sunlight tends to give me a headache too sometimes, I feel like I am not used to it enough and my eyes are sensitive. You should get some cool sunglasses :P But yeah, try a pill form if worse comes to worse!

You seem very pretty and confident, why would you need anti anxiety medication?
In my experience no herbal remedies, there isn't anything that really works. Benzos will but will fuck you up in a short time.
You are right about the light - I use a full spectrum growlamp in winter + take vitamin D tablets - that helps a bit.

I actually feel better in the winter because I can cover my chest up. When I get nervous, I break out in a red rash so I can cover that up in the winter.
dosomethin888 2 years ago
about the syncing up of your voice... seems to me like a framerate problem. increase the framerate before you record!
ironically I think the sun makes me more nervous. It's like the whole world is happy and I need to live up to that.
oh and you have this UK look going on in this video IMO lol... not sure what it is but I was expecting you to pop out a British accent.
but good video.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
And the guy is right go to councelling, you dont have a strong enough personality to overcome this situation because you are weak minded and influenciable, thus creating your own depression and anxiety. Keep whining you will find results, maeby in 2054.
ellegene 2 years ago

I knew that I was depressed and would get worse in no time.
ngelay 2 years ago
Apparently, I didn't want to it get worse. I found " meditation" before I stepped on to any further therapy. I don't really feel like antidepressants help. Maybe everybody should give a go with
"meditation". Do more research about it. Many psychiatrists and scientists now believe that it is one one of the best cure for depression. It is nothing diffcult, but you might find it a lil annoying when you just start.
ngelay 2 years ago
I have really good meditation guding audios which I found thru internet. Plz let me know everyone who reads this is interested. It really helps somehow. Peace and love.

that is light therapy, that you are referring to, done in 1-2 hour sessions, for the winter and has had good results.
exercise is the best as it is natural happiness, try yoga, for 1 -2 hours per week.
eating well (all natural cooked ingrediants) and sleeping earlier and getting up earlier, try walking in the morning for 10 minutes.
you will feel results in 1-2 months.

1 Month, 2 days clean, and I broke. I feel like a failure. =(
ChEeZeReLlA 2 years ago
You aren't a failure! That's a really good start, everyone has setbacks but just start again tomorrow. Take it one day at a time, and focus on the positive fact that you have racked up so many days clean, and not that you had a relapse. It's normal. Take care.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
You are no failure! You can trust me I went about the same amount of time then had a set back, or 2 or 3, and felt the same way but hard times come and go and just because you have 1 set back is no failure. In fact I have heard some people refer to it as a reality check. So, keep hanging in there and know that you have a whole team of people behind you to catch you each time you slip. I am sure you will get through this one day! Good Luck! :)

Strange... Spring and Summer are the months I struggle with depression and anxiety the most... 0.o
JazzyKat4Ever 2 years ago
It can really differ from person to person, depending on which season it is. Just overall I have heard winter and the lack of sunlight makes people more depressed, but if you have seasonal affective disorder or something similar, I suppose it doesn't matter what season it is. Hope you're doing okay.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
guys if you have severe depression go to your doctor...these supplements will help up to some point
Dannyjjango 2 years ago
Agreed. People with depression or anxiety need to see a doctor, but these tips are just for people who have tried other medication and might want to opt for something a little more natural. My advice is not to EVER be replaced by a qualified, professional medical doctor.
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
I've been meaning to get a light-box. I don't get HORRIBLY depressed in Winter but I definitely find it harder to get up in the morning, and I feel down more. I want to move somewhere sunnier. Been meaning to get a light-box or something that simulates natural light.
I also tried St John's Wort but it seemed to make me seemed to phase out more than usual, and have weird mood-swings.
DZrache 2 years ago
Thank you for mentioning all these organic methods. I don't want anti-depressants but I think I will try St. John's Wort if I can find it. On another note, I notice you wearing that necklace a lot. It's really really pretty. Can I ask where you got it?
XoXBlackFuryXoX 2 years ago
Let me know if you find the St. John's wort and how you like it, I know what you mean, I don't want to take medications anymore so it's a good alternative. As far as the necklace, yeah it's my favorite! I made it, I make lots of jewelry, it's kind of like a side business!
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
:O You make jewelry? That's amazing. If I lived near you I would definitely buy some of your jewelry. I probably won't be able to go to the pharmacy until next week since I don't want my parents to see me buying depression medication but I will look for it as soon as I find a good opportunity to sneak out. =P
XoXBlackFuryXoX 2 years ago
I sell it mostly online so if you ever want to check it out send me a message and I will link you! As far as the medication, you can also get it at places like walmart so you should be able to get it without much issue! :D Good luck!

4 Im actully glad I watched this video tonight, Ive been kinda all, well just simply messed up with my thoughts lately.
5 which videos are the ones about medications, it is very possible that very soon i might be on medications.
georgestap 2 years ago
As far as I know (I am a pharmacy tech so more familiar with rx meds than herbal supplements so I won't swear to it) St. John's Wort works similarly to SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, to increase the neurotransmitter serotonin. If it works the same way as the rx drugs it will take several weeks to get optimum effect, so don't give up on it if there's not a difference instantly. I have been silently following your vids for a while and you're truly an inspiration. Stay strong =)
Sciemachy 2 years ago
Haha, it's funny that you mentioned being a vampire 'cause that's exactly what I was gonna say for why I don't go out into the sun. Same wavelength, much? I think we should just be vampires together and get a light box!
I've always been curious about St. John's Wort and might give it a try soon. Plus, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go outside every once in a while. ;)
I wanna hear more about these other wacky remedies!

I agree, I think people slap "Disorder" on everything. It's annoying, lol it's like telling a bear that they hibernate because of a disorder, just because you get a bit sleepy or nostalgic from lack of sun doesn't mean it is a disorder. And Hey! I'm in Washington too :)

chrissys31 2 years ago
Ha ha, I love the little blurbs that pop up in the video!
I used to use St. John's Wort before I was on anti-depressants and I did find that it helped....BUT I've heard that it can make the birth control pill less effective, so keep that in mind! ...someone mentioned something about Kava...as far as I know it's been taken off the market, but maybe that's just here in Canada. I used to take that too but they don't make it anymore here...I forget why. Make sure you research it just in case.
leighannenoelle 2 years ago
lol, I love the annotations feature :P It helps me not look like such an idiot sometimes! haha.
I haven't heard of Kava but a lot of people are saying it makes you tired, so I would still recommend going with St. John's Wort if it works for that person. If it's off the market in canada then it's gonna be off the market elsewhere soon! Thanks for the heads up!

Sometimes when I do it I end up staying up just as late, Because the book is soo good and I just cant seem to put it down LOL!
krisgallia99 2 years ago
haha, i have the SAME issue with reading a book before bed, I sometimes can't put the book down even if it does make my eyes tired! But it's good to stay away from the computer, video games, tv (etc) before bed to wind down, it helps with anxiety and insomnia. Thanks for the tips, they are helpful, especially when you've had personal experience! Take care :)
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
Well I feel so much better now that it is spring! But that also could be because I have no more stress of school! LOL! I feel opening the blinds helps a lot! It just makes the room look positive, therefor making you feel more positive! I also find that if you are having anxiety at night then it helps to drink a lot of water and kind of walk it off around your house or something! With the sleeping problem I also find that drinking something warm cals you down and so does reading!

for insomnia, depression, anxiety and OCD, you can try tryptophan, it's natural like st john's. it is found in meats and cheese i think. i use it for OCD. i think it takes the edge off it and makes it less severe. you can get it in caps or powder, i suggest getting the caps that come with vitamin b, that somehow helps it work.
st john also comes in different forms, i have smell-less caps. :)
SilverPoppy 2 years ago

warning though... i read st johns wort reacts with birth control pills. so i'm staying off that. and valerian root makes me more awake :(
celerycoloredcarrots 2 years ago
Really? How long did you take it until it made you more awake? The issue with Valerian is that if you take it too often, it has the opposite effect, its usually about 2 weeks, though it was a few days for me till it started to do that, so I seldom take it now. Its not really something you can take all of the time. D:
Mnemosynex 2 years ago
i only took it a few times, and each time i didn't have that edge of anxiety, but that sleepy feeling in my eyes were gone. it could have been because i just had insomnia those nights, and it didn't affect me at all since i don't have insomnia every night. melatonin did a similar effect.

Mnemosynex 2 years ago 2
Thanks for getting technical! I am glad you did, thanks for the information on it, very interesting! I should try out one of these lamps and then show you all! :)
xsullengirlx 2 years ago
No problemo. It sometimes helps to know the background behind this stuff. You should go for it. :D I used to be pretty much permanantly exposed to sunlight [yeah, in England, haha!] because I was out all of the time, but since I stopped going out, I got more fatigued and depressed, blue light definatley helps! To think, this was all only discovered a few years ago! If you try it, I hope it works for ya. :D
Mnemosynex 2 years ago
St. Johns Wort didn't work for me at all, but Valerian helped more instead. Also, sunlight works wonders on me. But it takes some getting used to. =)
