However the difference is that AFAIK opiate withdrawal doesn't cause potentially fatal seizures and fuck your mind up like coming off benzos does. Heroin is notorious for its strong psychological addictiveness, benzos lack that but the effects of withdrawal on your body and mind are more severe.
Furthermore, I can promise you, opiate withdrawal is no "slight itch or cold." Also, I don't mean that as a dick comment, like...coming down on you or anything, just informing you. Opiate withdrawal is hell on earth. Shakes, Cold Sweats, This random sense of disassociation from reality also usually plagued me all the time. Constant vomiting, severe depression, insomnia. I actually didn't sleep for 4 days, lying in bed all day, shivering and sweating,..and crying. Horrible man.
I' m 20 years old and just now getting over a severe opiate addiction, started with pills like oxymorphone, oxycontin, fentanyl patches, hydromorphone, etc, but then moved to heroin for a good solid year due to the inexpensiveness compared to pills. Heroin is at LEAST a quarter of the cost. Now i'm on suboxone and i've been clean for awhile, but I still can't put the needle down, so I IV my subs, but there's no high, just the joy of IV. But trust me, I wouldn't wish opiate WD on my worst enemy.

Benzo withdrawal is usually considered the worst and the only one that can actually kill you. Don't under estimate opiate/heroin withdrawal though, that shit is hell.

Anyway, all this shit fucks you up and like you said it creeps up on you and you don't realise till its to late.
Even taking temazepam (at high doses) every second day will eventually fuck you up. The 10mg tabs are weak like you said but that shit gets into areas of the body/brain other benzos don't touch. Its apparently the only benzo you can use to tapper people off barbituates. That shit has been a problem here in Scotland for years (specially the original gel caps you could inject). I'm getting tappered off diazepam at 5mg a month just now and its still murder. Benzos are a fucking nightmare!
My brother did heroin AND fcking benzos all the time an he tried to quit cold turkey so i let him crash on my couch for a couple weeks. He was so fucked up for like a week he lost like ten pounds.
i usually take like 1mg a day, and i went cold turkey a couple days ago and i constantly feel like im hot / cold chills etc. i never took as much as you did and its still fucking me up.
i already take oxy about 70mg a day for crohns disease. but god damn fucked up from 1mg a day.... i can not take my oxys for like 2-3 days and it isnt nearly as bad as this 1mg doses.
You're pretty lucky that it only took a month to overcome the withdrawals. Personally I never took benzos in excess because of the withdrawal stories. I take Klonopin for anxiety once every month IF THAT.

They ALL walked away from this prescribed problem! FUCK THEM!

@LivenDance The problem is that people trust their doctors, and the doctors trust Big Pharma, and Big Pharma conceals the extent of the side-effects, risks, etc. If you want the truth, you have to be open-minded and independent enough to seek out and listen to people like Dr. Peter Breggin, a former psychiatrist who has written numerous books about the dangers of psyche-meds. But most people will just dismiss Breggin as someone on the fringe and not even hear what he has to say. :/

One of my friends who I chill with frequently eats seven 2 mg klonopins at once and chews them up, and then he eats 5+ 30 mg Aterols. He does this EVERY DAY. Think im fucking lying? more watched. Dr's prescribe them like there candy. If you go to a Dr's appointment and tell them you have severe Panic/Anxiety Attacks, 9 times out of 10 they'll give you some sort of Benzo. More than likely they'll give you Xanax. It's only supposed to be a short term medicine. Like 2-3 Months at most. But they'll keep on prescribing you it like it's nothing. Most people are given these and they dont know anything about them. It only takes a little time to put you in posistion to exp. w/d's.

I had to atleast have 5-7 (Depending on the day I was having) a day to even feel normal. My old doctor actually said I wouldnt go through W/D's after a year and a half, so I thought I could quit them no problem. Those W/D's were hell. They didnt last just a few days It was weeks before I felt any better. Come to find out W/D from benzo's can be more dangerous than Alcohol W/D's. I dont know whats worse. Benzo withdrawal sucks but so does Painkiller/Opiate Withdrawal. If your taking low doses of Percocets the withdrawals arent that bad but if your taking high doses of something like Methadone for a long time. The withdrawals are hell. They say it's worse than Heroin. But back to Benzo's. I was on Xanax for a year and a half. I was first prescribed 1mg's 3 times a day or as needed. Coming off benzos basically makes you seem a bit like you were on meth... + a dozen other things. Hyperactivity and insomnia result from the constant uninhibited firing of the neurons caused by removing benzos from the system that adapted to their presence. This state is similar to what thujone (wormwood in absinthe, you know what Vincent van Gogh ended up doing) does in the brain, it goes ballistic. Sleeping is not possible without external aids.

the best way for me to describe the withdrawal symptoms is to compare them to what it's like to be someone who truly needs benzos, which is someone who suffers from extreme anxiety and paranoia. undergoing benzo withdrawals makes you feel like someone is out to get you, and you're not able to sleep because of the uncontrollable shaking of limbs, and you constantly think that everyone is talking about you behind your back. FUCK BENZOS unless a doctor, who isn't crooked, prescribes them to you.

I'm 6 months into a 6 day abrupt taper (after 7 year, progressively increased dosage of Ativan/Lorazepam), which has me a neurological wreck six months after my detox doctor, ER doctors, and my own PRESCRIBING doctor got worried about legal ramifications, and refused to reintroduce ANY benzo. They ALL walked away from this prescribed problem! FUCK THEM!
