I am so excited to see this video with Mattie Harper. I grew up hearing her sing at different churches in my hometown. We lived in the same county. I wish she was still around. We really had a treasure and I don't think people really recognized it. Our women's group at church will be honoring Ms. Mattie along with other female gospel music singers in the southeast Tennessee area in a gala in March. I can hardly wait.
The line up on this song is:Frances Steadman, her daughter Sadie Keys,Roslin Johnson ,Charles Mc Cloud and Esther Ford who was one of the founding members of the group who all were the famous ward singers of Philadelphia Pa.They resigned as a group and organized The Stars Of Faith.Esther Ford is the only survivor of the origional group and she is still singing with the same GUSTO as in the 70's.
That is Mattie Harper,Frances Steadman,Sadie Keys,Roslyn Johnson &Esther Ford & Charles Mc Cloud on the piano all are deceased except Esther Ford who is alive and well and yet singing with the same gusto and same quality female group.
Just only two of these women present sung with the Wards and that's the Late Frances Steadman and Lady Esther Ford. These women were started by Marion Williams oringinal members were:Marion Williams, Esther Ford,Henrietta Waddy,Catherine Kitty Parham and Frances Steadman and Mattie Harper joined a couple of years later.

Mattie Harper, Frances Steadman, Sadie Keys, Esther Ford and that's all in know of. I don't know who is between Sadie & Esther

Sandra "Sadie" Keyes was the late Frances Steadman daughter. Esther Ford frequently performed with the Stars. She is still alive.
jddrew1000 2 years ago
Yes, but when Frances died she told Esther Ford to take over the Stars
