I mean, really? You math rock fans didn't care to find out where all this comes from? K. C. baby!
I totally dig Math Rock. Because I've been a K. C. fan for years.
Now, I only wish bands incorporate their own input to this formula. If not, the genre will get boring and predictable. LONG LIFE TO THE KING (MATH ROCK)
Like this, I am aware of how many people have been influenced by Crimson and Fripp in particular. Don't forget when you quote others influncers that weren't around when Fripp started around 1966.
But I was and can see what a huge influence on music in general he has been, The origins of trance and electro as well, for instance.
Cool post. I've never heard this song. But I have heard the Jesus Lizard song. I had no idea King Crimson were this insane and total math rock. Pink Floyd also influenced Jesus Lizard.
I made a Larks' Tongues-esque riff once.. I'm glad I'm not the only one who tried copying Crimson. XD Though I have no need to any longer. I have my own composing style.
Add Helmet and Faith No More and Primus and Rollins Band to the list (and all the bands that *they* influenced). The Rodan choice is interesting. Rope in Shellac and Slint while we're there. :-)
They've got that heavy sound.... kind of crooked riffs, dark, angular guitar work. I did read that Tool are influenced by KC, and Kurt Cobain supposedly really dug "Red".
@DandelionVolta Really? Favorite of all time? I wouldn't be surprised. Some of those weird time signatures and diamond-bladed riffs really show the influence.
@Blink182plus I guess Maynard from Tool said that Tool touring with King Crimson is like Lenny Kravitz touring with Led Zeppelin, haha. He must really admire them. They WERE very ahead of their time.
math rock? Conlon Nancarrow. REAL MOFO'IN math rock

@ultramegaunknown Yea, apparently they would come onto stage and make a remark like "Now we know who we've been stealing from all these years."

@Blink182plus44equ226
Stealing is not the same as "being influenced by".
"Even" King Crimson had their influences ;)

A lot of Tool reminds me of King Crimson as well, although maybe it's more accurate to say it's Robert Fripp's influence.
