I love Cara Dillon from every point of view but I have to say hearing something so up tempo from her has opened even more doors for me. Why is she so underground? Its a travesty. I first her supporting Paul Brady at the Point a few years ago and had never heard of her before. Now it seems she is a star in the Trad Scene but deserves so much more. Totally love her.
I saw her do an awesome and a bit more uptempo version of this at the Helix Dublin it was Amazing! Too bad only like 50 people showed up to her concert...
Nothing on earth beats John Moynihan's version with Planxty (I can listen to it over and over and over again and never get bored of its quirky phrasing and bouncy instrumentation) but this is extremely nice nonetheless!
Oh, yeah, and that lad on the pipes inspired me to try and mend me pipes so that I can get started on practising again. The sound of those uilleann pipes... magic.
I have heard the Planxty perform this song - and feel in with it instantly. Cara 'ere does it much more light heartedly, but, as with all her other stuff, she is excellent. I love this.
for a short period in the early ninties I lived in london and on a show called blue peter this song was performed... I have not heard it since, but "Johny is the fairest man..." has been stuck in my head for more than a decade.
I have never heard Cara sing this song before, so thanks for putting this on for us to enjoy. I love the Uillean Pipes and hope Cara has the full band with her on the first night of her next tour, starting at The Hailsham Pavilion on Saturday 28th April, I am biting my nails to the quick with anticipation!!
does anyone know what the tune is for the instrumental part in this song?

Does anyone have a live recording of Michael Mcgoldric playing this tune? Its on the "At first light" album, but can't find a performance.

Is there any instrument in any part of the world that can equal the uillean pipes for pure raw beauty.

When i take a look in her Eyes, i know she´s at the wide green fields of ireland while she is singing. Greets from very northern Germany!

She's probably just doing what she likes the most without the need to force herself doing something more "mainstream", like The Corrs did.
Well now I've just discovered her 5 minutes ago so correct me if she tried doing something else than traditional songs. ;)

Who is the uileann piper. He is very skilled and complements Cara's beautiful singing.

His name is James O'Grady. He has been in her band a long while now... great, eh? He is from London, I think.

Really I think this version beats any other version. I'd just wish iTunes would have this song of hers.
