I grew up with the series and I must admit I was pretty much hyped about the new movie back then. I mean it can't be that bad..right? Mistake no. 1.
It was too focused on Alan, TinTin and Brain's kid whose name escapes me. I like centric episodes but with a movie I'd like it when the other characters have a equal role.
Hood didn't seem like a villain for me, more like a inconvenience.
The director admitted he never really watched the series, probably a reason why the ages are mixed up, etc
Why did they made the actors a bunch of kids? The Thunderbirds fans are all adults that saw the series from the 60's. Were they trying to make it cool with a bunch of no-talent young "actors"? Same thing they did with DBZ movie, Speed racer, etc Why mess with a perfect good story? No wonder they flop
The movie was a giggle to watch but there was sooo much wrong with it. The actor who played Jeff was appalling! Penelope was AWFUL.. The original characters weren't so young and immature and it was far too focused on Alan and him "becoming" a Thunderbird.. They should have just made lots of different rescues rather than practically the entire plot line surrounding Alan's personal life. Good graphics and music though. (Except for Busted! Eugh!)

@lamplitbridge I don't understand how you can compare graphics. The old series was inventive and used puppets and models on strings. The movie could have done anything it wanted seeing as it had modern computers to work with.

it aint a rolls in the 2004 movie. Rolls Royce was for some reason, i cannot remember, unable to fund the creation of a new Rolls Royce that would be similar in design to the old Fab 1, therefore Ford was taken on, and they redesigned it for the modern era.
Well, it goes without saying that the new ones are simply terrible. These fools who made the new movie saw nothing more than a story about rescue vehicles. It doesn't take an expert to realise that there's much much more to it than that.
The reason the original series still lives today is because of all the care, charm, soul and skills that Gerry Anderson and his collaborators put into it.
It is a nice car. The only reason that it wasn't a Rolls Royce like the original version was is because Rolls Royce wanted NOTHING to do with the new movie.

I think i'd let them get away with the changes except for thunderbird 2... It looks a damn green rock with red holes. The spoiler thing at the back is all wrong too. Well done, developers, you've truly bodged up the new design.
I'd say they were BASTARDIZED. I don't know why people love putting a new creative spin on things that fans have loved for decades. The same was true with Loonatics Unleashed (A cartoon so horrible it should never be compared to the Looney Tunes) and Bomberman: Act Zero (A stupid new spin on one of the greatest classic video games). Fans of the originals got mad that their beloved series were being screwed with.
Thankfully enough fans complained before Jack Black became the Green Lantern. Yech!

Wow. Thanks for assembling this. I much prefer the original designs, much cleaner and more elegant, and more potent. The original T2 suggested muscle, the original T1 and T3 embodied speed. The new designs are cluttered and just don't convey the essential character of the machines. The new T4 is way too busy, T2 looks like a cordless mouse, no muscle, T1 and T3 don't have the essential look of speed. Very disappointing.
I think the new ones look quite good actually, at least they made them look like the original designs, and Thunderbird 4's new look looks like an actual practical submersible
I tell you what happened...the idiots at Working Title should have known better and stuck with doing what they know best...chick flick films like 'Notting Hill' and Bridget Jones mush! Second, they employed an American who knew nothing about Thunderbirds and cared nothing of it...unlike the Brit who directed Batman and got the two recent films dead on, well away from the benchmark films established by Tim Burton's Beetlejuice rubbish! Frakes employed his wife, took lazy money and ran! Shit film!

Took me til last year to muster the courage to see the movie. I can't understand what it is with the people who do remakes - usually they miss the point completely, muck up the formula that made something good. Thunderbirds was about teamwork, heroism, adventure and excitement - not a bunch of kids farting around in a jungle.
The original designs were by far the best. Iconic! I see posters are voting for the original TB2 in particular. Good!

Yes what happened? The upgrades were entirley poor and foolish! TB1 with windows and no horizontal-vertical height seat adjustment? TB2 looks like an overweight whale? TB3 is decent. TB4 was simply not even thought out...a mish mash of lazy brain efforts...TB5 improves on the OS model...and Lady Penelope's car is a disgrace! It flies while looking like a constipated turd? I'm sure Frake's wouldn't have mistreated the Enterprise this way...he took the money and bailed!
the new machines suck granted the original T2 would get far on the wings, but it could at least get to the danger zone, not like the new T2, thats another thing they dont say the classic "danger zone" in the nu film, they say Accident zone! They werent destroyed or upgraded. Think of the movie as an alternate universe. A fandfiction come to life. Set it as its own and you will enjoy it. I for one love the Original Thunderbirds and nothing could be better then them, but one i decided that the movie was a AU version I found it entertaining.

I couldn't agree more mate. The Thunderbirds of the 1960s is in a totally different league. When i learned they were making a live action film, i knew that it was doomed! Thunderbirds was a show created with puppets and the special effects were specially designed for the puppet show as well. The music as well of the orignal series is just awesome! Plus also the orignal machines look so much better.

and who can honestly say that thunderbird 2s pod system was made better? it was just the fact that the entire middle of the craft was removed each time the pod was lowered, whereas in the new thunderbird 2, its a little box pops out the bottom. how crap.

The big thing i mis in the Thunderbirds movie Was WHAT hapend to the pods of TB2? i liked those 6 pods. (3 and 6 where my favorit :P they housed the best stuff)
The directos even F**** the Firefly, A cool and mean machine down to a foam spraying kitten. what hapend to the "mean machine" with the hidden gun in the center of the machine...it is sayd when you know the old series.

that is called the thunderbird fever, felt by kids all over the world back in the 60s, and yet still today some of that classic feeling is preserved and passed onto the new generations.
but its films like this which will discourage kids from watching the old series because its puppets and not real people like the movie.
In a few view , this video will be watched 30 000 times and so far , in general , people prefer the old, well, the original Thunderbirds style like I expected.
I think people are getting tired of all those remakes of everything and see those kind of disaster happening.

I know that the original series was primarily aimed at the children's market but adults could also get something out of it as well.I am still amazed at how good the original Thunderbirds was and still is.
I don't see how it messed up the story. Think of it as a prequel, before Alan was old enough to drive TB3. They can focus on the other brothers in other movies. I agree it would have made more money focused on the generation who watched it in the 60's as opposed to focusing it on kids, but it is (and was) after all a kids show. I'd rather watch a good movie than one that just made a lot of money anyday.
As for FAB1 being redone as a Ford Thunderbird, they had to do this because Rolls Royce would not agree to the rights. Pity, but the new FAB1 is much cooler IMHO anyway.

I personally don't see the big difference.The new movie is better than the old one because:
a) the graphics were WAY better (I know that was because of the fact that the old series was old, but i still think that the graphics are terrible.)
b) better theme music
c) better macines
the old one bores me and my brother a bit.
Plus I perfer the new characters, especially Tintin, Tintin was sssooo annoying in the old one, I quite like her in the new one.

Une entrevue avec le concepteur original de la série a mentionné que les producteurs du film ne l' avait même pas consulté ni contacter pour avoir son approbation de faire le film qui à son avis avait été trahi ,il avait même dit '' qu' il esperait qu' il se plante avec leur navet '' ce qui est effectivement arrivé malgré les millions de dollards de publicité en promotion , comment gâché une bonne idée qui aurait pu être un réel succès , typiquement américain !

it aint a rolls in the 2004 movie. Rolls Royce was for some reason, i cannot remember, unable to fund the creation of a new Rolls Royce that would be similar in design to the old Fab 1, therefore Ford was taken on, and they redesigned it for the modern era.

Well, it goes without saying that the new ones are simply terrible. These fools who made the new movie saw nothing more than a story about rescue vehicles. It doesn't take an expert to realise that there's much much more to it than that.
The reason the original series still lives today is because of all the care, charm, soul and skills that Gerry Anderson and his collaborators put into it.

I think i'd let them get away with the changes except for thunderbird 2... It looks a damn green rock with red holes. The spoiler thing at the back is all wrong too. Well done, developers, you've truly bodged up the new design.

I'd say they were BASTARDIZED. I don't know why people love putting a new creative spin on things that fans have loved for decades. The same was true with Loonatics Unleashed (A cartoon so horrible it should never be compared to the Looney Tunes) and Bomberman: Act Zero (A stupid new spin on one of the greatest classic video games). Fans of the originals got mad that their beloved series were being screwed with.
Thankfully enough fans complained before Jack Black became the Green Lantern. Yech!

Wow. Thanks for assembling this. I much prefer the original designs, much cleaner and more elegant, and more potent. The original T2 suggested muscle, the original T1 and T3 embodied speed. The new designs are cluttered and just don't convey the essential character of the machines. The new T4 is way too busy, T2 looks like a cordless mouse, no muscle, T1 and T3 don't have the essential look of speed. Very disappointing.

I tell you what happened...the idiots at Working Title should have known better and stuck with doing what they know best...chick flick films like 'Notting Hill' and Bridget Jones mush! Second, they employed an American who knew nothing about Thunderbirds and cared nothing of it...unlike the Brit who directed Batman and got the two recent films dead on, well away from the benchmark films established by Tim Burton's Beetlejuice rubbish! Frakes employed his wife, took lazy money and ran! Shit film!

Took me til last year to muster the courage to see the movie. I can't understand what it is with the people who do remakes - usually they miss the point completely, muck up the formula that made something good. Thunderbirds was about teamwork, heroism, adventure and excitement - not a bunch of kids farting around in a jungle.
The original designs were by far the best. Iconic! I see posters are voting for the original TB2 in particular. Good!
Finally, they replaced a RR with a Ford - IDIOTS!!

Yes what happened? The upgrades were entirley poor and foolish! TB1 with windows and no horizontal-vertical height seat adjustment? TB2 looks like an overweight whale? TB3 is decent. TB4 was simply not even thought out...a mish mash of lazy brain efforts...TB5 improves on the OS model...and Lady Penelope's car is a disgrace! It flies while looking like a constipated turd? I'm sure Frake's wouldn't have mistreated the Enterprise this way...he took the money and bailed!

the new machines suck granted the original T2 would get far on the wings, but it could at least get to the danger zone, not like the new T2, thats another thing they dont say the classic "danger zone" in the nu film, they say Accident zone! T1 looks the most correct but still way off, T4 looks way bettr with the scoop thing or whatever on the front, who says it has to be more practical? but T2 was shocking! way to piss off the fans Director!!!

They werent destroyed or upgraded. Think of the movie as an alternate universe. A fandfiction come to life. Set it as its own and you will enjoy it. I for one love the Original Thunderbirds and nothing could be better then them, but one i decided that the movie was a AU version I found it entertaining.

It's so strange that to this date there has never been a successful THUNDERBIRDS spin off of any kind. Icluding the original movie from the late sixties. For some strange reason THUNDERBIRDS just doesn't seem to work outside the confines of the original series.

I couldn't agree more mate. The Thunderbirds of the 1960s is in a totally different league. When i learned they were making a live action film, i knew that it was doomed! Thunderbirds was a show created with puppets and the special effects were specially designed for the puppet show as well. The music as well of the orignal series is just awesome! Plus also the orignal machines look so much better.

yeh i know, but it aint THAT different....not in the same way as others r...frankly the "updated" TB2 can't fly!!!!!!!! granted the original wouldn't either...but the wing span is....STUPID!!! but FAB1 is essentially still the same...more or less. apart from being a ford therefore alot less posh and clearly now not having a Radar system thing like the original (that's in whatever you call the bit on the front of the car above the grill....)

and who can honestly say that thunderbird 2s pod system was made better? it was just the fact that the entire middle of the craft was removed each time the pod was lowered, whereas in the new thunderbird 2, its a little box pops out the bottom. how crap.

The big thing i mis in the Thunderbirds movie Was WHAT hapend to the pods of TB2? i liked those 6 pods. (3 and 6 where my favorit :P they housed the best stuff)
The directos even F**** the Firefly, A cool and mean machine down to a foam spraying kitten. what hapend to the "mean machine" with the hidden gun in the center of the machine...it is sayd when you know the old series.

that is called the thunderbird fever, felt by kids all over the world back in the 60s, and yet still today some of that classic feeling is preserved and passed onto the new generations.
but its films like this which will discourage kids from watching the old series because its puppets and not real people like the movie.

The biggest problem with the "Thunderbirds" movie was that they scrapped the original "recipe":
1.You introduce some characters.
2.Make you like them.
3.Put them in the middle of a life threatening disaster.
4.Just as all hope is lost International Rescue save the day!

The modern film just didn't cut it for me.
I know that the original series was primarily aimed at the children's market but adults could also get something out of it as well.I am still amazed at how good the original Thunderbirds was and still is.

I don't see how it messed up the story. Think of it as a prequel, before Alan was old enough to drive TB3. They can focus on the other brothers in other movies. I agree it would have made more money focused on the generation who watched it in the 60's as opposed to focusing it on kids, but it is (and was) after all a kids show. I'd rather watch a good movie than one that just made a lot of money anyday.

As for FAB1 being redone as a Ford Thunderbird, they had to do this because Rolls Royce would not agree to the rights. Pity, but the new FAB1 is much cooler IMHO anyway.
