  • Laksa is quite popular in singapore

  • there are many version of laksa, this one called curry laksa,i think . i like asam laksa(no curry, just tamarind)

  • I'm yet to be convinced that the difference between one country's cuisine, and another, gets down to nothing more than the variety of bean sprout (ok, slight exaggeration)..Blindfold some of these 'la-de-dah foodies' and they'd be hard pressed to tell whether they eating peking duck, or sucking on an Alaskan ice cube.

  • @ex2dx have u compared an ipoh bean sprout vs the bean sprouts u get in australia? the difference is huge LOL

  • @peanutking242

    Lol! "biger...."!!!

  • omg that looks absolutely amazing!

  • Laksa Johor yummy...

  • that looks good! yummmy im feeling hungry now

  • looks delicious!!!

  • why it's look like curry noodle?

  • it looks tasty. but i dont like the idea of using short cut (paste). so, what are the ingredients for paste?

  • frankly im malaysian and i think she's good at cooking laksa. Laksa is my all-time favourite and i wish all the western people could try it in homes or when they visited malaysia.

  • I really love this show too they always make such good food. Good thing I live in Australia hehehe :DDD

  • I had laksa for the first time in Singapore and they put in 'see hum' which is like a small clam and it was absolutely amazing.

  • Laksa is one of the best meals i ve ever have... full of incredible flavour !!! btw im just cooking it and we will have it for xmass dinner..even im from Slovakia !!! :)

  • Yes , most of Singapore food does originated from Malaysia. Malaysia and Singapore have their own unique way of cooking.

Is wonderful to see and taste such a diverse variety of delicious food in this two country.

  • Fuck you, singaporean food is fucking shit and tastes horrible. Wan tan mee with tomato ketchup?? Fucking plonkers...

  • wow looks good!

  • look delicious to me...;p

  • that's my favourite laksa... laksa johore....

  • this comment is not cuisine-specific - but food safari and maeve are just AWESOME!!!

  • Food Safari is a Australian show on SBS on wed:7:30pm . Best Malay Restaurant in Melbourne is - Malamas on st georges rd Nth Fitzroy and Nonya on Lygon st Carlton ( Little Italy )..

  • Yumm love malaysian Food : Harmee Soup noodles / Nasi-Goreng / Curry Laksa / Roti / coconut rice yummy nice and spicey...

  • I have never tried this kind of food before and i think i would like to try it...

I love spicy Malay food...this one looks tasty and so creamy...

  • Asam Laksa DO NOT use coconut milk/cream!!!!! And DO NOT have fishballs or that square thingy (cut in half), or even prawns....

Please do not put the title as MALAYSIAN LAKSA... since in Malaysia we HAVE different type of LAKSA cooking... it differs from region to region...

This one looks MORE like CURRY MEE (MEE KARI) in Malaysia.... (cont.)

  • ...In the northern region (Penang) we have asam laksa, in the northeastern region (Kelantan/Terengganu) we have LAKSAM, while in the southern region (Johor), LAKSA JOHOR uses spaghetti instead of rice noodles and it's DRY not soupy like the ASAM LAKSA...

Again... like others have pointed out, this is MORE like CURRY MEE in Malaysia...

  • I am an Asian - Australian and we love Laksa! My friends and I always insearch for a good laksa Restaurants. We like our laksas to be really spicy and creamy. Sometimes we need to put extra chilli and Sa-te paste in our soup. Is the Authentic Laksa like that? Can you recommend a restaurant in Sydney?

  • Like I said, in Malaysia, there are many varities of laksa (cooking-wise) depending on the regions. This video show is more like curry mee sold here in Malaysia, no 'laksa' per se.

Oh btw, I just made authentic asam laksa last weekend, my first try and my friends loved it!!!

  • Ok, so its Curry Mee. Does Mee indicate the type of noodles? Because in my language, "Mee" or "Mi" is egg noodles...

  • owh yup... curry mee here is sold with the yellow noodle... (egg i supposed) ... not with rice noodle...

curry mee uses coconut milk, curry paste etc. and eaten with fishballs, fried tofu etc and also cockles or shrimp...

  • In Australia, most of the Malay-Chinese Restaurant serve Curry Mee with rice noodles which i don't like but they are always happy to replace it with Hokkien Noodle when i request it.

  • yes.. i think it's better to have curry mee with the yellow noodles instead of rice ones. well, u should try authentic laksa whenever u have the chance to visit malaysia or singapore... but not right now tho... 'coz of H1N1 LOL!!!

  • so not helpful....

he ask about laksa in sydnet but you keep talking about types of laksa in malaysia...

i dont think any one would care except once they were in malaysia itself, otherwise those will be known as laksa malaysia...

so, strengthen the brand dude.laksa malaysia.;p

what a nice name, another famous malaysian cuisine besides the renowned sate abroad.;p

  • And over in the Eastern Malaysian states of Borneo where I hail from, we have our own version of laksa: Kuching or Sarawak laksa (very popular in Sabah as well). The soup has a consistency similar to laksa lemak but milder, mostly consisting of a sambal belacan base as well as other ingredients not typical of other laksa variants, and traditionally served with rice vermicelli only.

And of course, the Singaporeans also have their own take on laksa as well.

  • Yea, I agree

Laksa, I believe is localised to preference just like Italians from different country have their own take of Pasta Cabonara

  • Looks like a curry to me.

  • there are 3 different kinds of laksa they are Singapore laksa, curry laksa & asam laksa both curry n asam laksa is from Malaysia.Reporting from Singapore ...lol this is the Malaysian kind of laksa...not as spicy as the Singapore's laksa

  • Singapore laksa is essentially a variant of the "curry laksa" you mentioned, which is in fact laksa nyonya or laksa lemak. The "curry laksa" mainly sold in the West doesn't taste like the authentic laksas found in Malaysia and Singapore. What we watched was curry mee, and I was quite surprised that Maeve got her to demonstrate a subpar recipe like this, when I've seen more complex stuff on the same show.

And a typical preparation of assam laksa is spicier then a typical Singaporean laksa.

  • there is a different between curry laksa & asam laksa. That should be curry laksa since they add in coconut milk. i guess in Penang & other penisula Malaysia cooking laksa can be in many different way. that quite straightforward way for any laksa lover.

  • This is not even the original coconut-based laksa, for that matter. The original laksa is known as "Laksa Lemak" or "Laksa Nyonya". As many have pointed out, this is basically the "curry mee" or curried noodles which also exists in Malaysia, but sold as laksa in the West.

  • no way no how am i eating this!

  • tats laksa ?

you got to be kidding me ...

i think they make a big mistake calling it laksa ...

its more like the mixture curry noodle or spicy prawn noodle ...

and FYI .. i am from Malaysia ...

  • ya ya ya....I also feel that way....

  • ya.... i agree... that not laksa... search youtube video, keywords Laksa..

  • In the West, curry noodles is commonly sold as "laksa", and most people seem to have this preconception that laksa is essentially = curry + coconut milk + noodles. How dead wrong are they.

  • This oriental ladys accent is difficult to understand. She eats some of her words. What is the stuff she added after the coconut milk. Are those "fish balls" Can someone help, please.

  • Fish balls mate, and after that it's Fried tofu puffs cut in half. That's an Australian accent mate she speaks with however her volume is a little quiet.

  • @5SadaYama5 yes it is. ^^

  • I love Maeve. She does it for me ! She is sex on legs !

  • totally agree!

  • omg that looks to DIE for yummmm!!!

  • I happen to use that exact Laksa paste, and yes, there is lemongrass, galangale, garlic, shallot all in it. But sure if you have those on hand slice up some fresh and include in your laksa.

  • she says "Ginger" at :36.

  • well i wouldn say it an original laksa, more like crab mee curry-'kari ketam'

but i guess that wat laksa serve in aus

  • can you give me the recipe? merci.

  • I made laksa yesterday by accident :P there was this recipe of "thai tofu soup" on the net: lemon grass, ginger, cathyme lime leaves, stock, coconut cream, fish sauce and of course tofu - strangely it turned out to be laksa ^^~ well taste similar from my local thai restaurant anyway. It was amazingly quick and easy to do :)

  • Sadly, it's not quite original laksa Q__Q

  • where's the lemon grass?

  • oh NOs,, where is the ginger/galngal!!

  • Probably in the laksa paste.
