  • Lifting up a doxie takes a lot of care, always support front and rear, I carry ours just like a baby girl that she is.....also good for building up my shoulder muscles and so forth. Honeybun is now 6 1/2 yrs old and weighs a solid 12 lbs. All that love wrapped up is bound to come out with kisses and tail wags too. Inside her she thinks shes a bulldog, ha ha, her bark would take the curl out of your hair! JUST KIDDING!!!

  • i just recently rescued a dachshund.... i absolutely love him and he has grown attached to my little boy and girl ... i would like to see you give more informative videos on the breed....i have never been this attached to an animal

  • Thank you for uploading this. I realise I was lifting mine badly: with my hands under his/her armpits.

  • @PennySmart I used to lift my dachshund the same way as you....

  • would it be wrong to marry a beautiful woman mainly because she has doxie's? and are you free friday night for dinner?

  • Yup, Dachshunds are prone to back problems. My first Dachshund stopped moving all of a sudden one day. Luckily all he needed was a steroid shot and no surgery. He never had any problems after that. The Dachshund down the street however, had to get surgery and was very weak. I hope first-time Dachshund owners see this video. It'll help a lot.

  • lol'd at the one who smelled the camera

  • Hot!

  • Love you doxie pics!

  • Jesus, you really love dachshunds (all the decor) haha.

  • hehe i love how much u love daschunds all the merch u have of them and u have so many :)))))

  • Can I have that dapple tapestry on the left?

  • i held my weiner dog between my elbow and ribs, along the length of my forearm. When he got older i had to use the two arm treatment. That dog was a true gentleman and scholar. Ah, yes, he was polite yet showed authority when necessary. He could not only catch a flying tennis ball but snap it back, right to your hands. And when he sneezed i believe he even covered his mouth. Yes, quite a gentleman. : D

  • One hand under the arms, one hand under the butt, at the same time. A boost. :)

  • thanks for this video! never thought about it, but you would need to pick em up a certain way, huh?

i do like to hold mine like a baby too, though :)

  • Thanks, this is very useful! :)

  • I was going to say "this lady is insane. Look at the walls!"

Then I looked over at the artist's painting on my wall, the dachshund pillows, and the dachshund ornaments on my tree...

  • my Minkie 'dachshund puppy' just leaps into my arms as she is 2months now xD

  • ...how else do people hold them? i cant think of any other way you would pick up a dog lol

  • I think of it like this: you have to boost the caboose.

  • i hold them like a football or a baby with the hand holding the chest and the forearm for the long body,

  • all the dog stuff.. once you get a dachshund, you usually end up get more. they have very unique personalities that are irresistible! i had a regular one, for many years, then ended up getting a mini. they are adorable. i have a video on one of mine, diesel you should check out!

  • you do have to pick them up a certain way. very fragile backs

  • perfect ... I do the same with my girl ... just don't take them by the legs, like you do to a poodle ... they are sooo heavy to their size =D

  • weenie dogs rule

  • I love your decoration!!!

we got two and our home is looking that way also!!! great pics in the walls!

  • YES !! YOU ARE RIGHT ! BE CAREFUL TO YOUR DACHSHUND ! Your video is on my "favorite video youtube" ! My dog was operated 2 years ago and i was very sad. We were very luckies. After the operation, he can walk again. I always do as you for take him ! Thanks for your video ! Excuse my english language, i'm french !

  • You have a beautiful body

  • something tells me you like Dachshunds

  • Doxie house!!!!

  • I see you like dachshund...

  • I had a slightly different way, but this is good, main thing is not to bend the back, I like the doxie pics in the background, ever notice how great doxie lovers are

  • hot,hot,hot. i love doxies

  • THANK YOU! :) It can't be good for the owner's back, but at least my dog will be happier when I pick her up. Hee hee, I love how your dog jumped up and bumped the camera during filming too. ^^

  • Haha, it's hilarious that one of your babes almost tipped the camera =) Also make sure to lift with your legs so you don't hurt your back! ;-) I just noticed that when I noticed how much bigger yours are than mine =) I have an 8 pound mini so I pick her up and hold her with one arm like a football, making sure her main body is on my forearm. I hold her like a baby too =)

  • Doxies rule!!!

  • love the doxie background!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are right, dachs has a long spine.

You have to be careful so you don`t bend it too much.

  • so there IS a more specific way to pick up a dachshund :D, thanks 4 da tip, when I get one of those, I know how to care for them properly

  • Wow! you must REALLY love doxies! I have one and he is so adorable. He is a real hardhead. What is it like to have more than one at a time? I have a dachshund statue too. I like your throws as well.

  • oh well there so fun to own all the same in my opinion there are ther friendlest most loving companion in the world

  • love you for being such a doxie lover, they're the best

  • Thanks! I'm going to see if this will work on my lhasa - my family is having trouble picking her up.

  • Wow, so insightful! Now I know, and thanks to you, I can be a better pet owner!

  • Thanks for making the video, seeing it is easier than reading it!

  • love the wall decor.

  • good job! :)

  • lol Love the video. I know my doxie hates to be craddled or on her back. I dunno if that's just her though. Love all the doxie decor, like everyone has said. ^_^

  • thanks for uploading this ,

    i was doing it wrong,

    thank you

  • i looove picking up my dachshund that is exACTLY how i do it!

  • you're dachshund wall things are amazing.

    <33.

  • lol lots of doxie parafinalia in the background! love it :P

  • I love all the dachshund deco stuff I have a black and tan mini dachshund named Chloe

  • I think the Dachshund Wall decorations make the video! My Mini (Snickers) just decides it's time to be held.... and demands her weinie way....

  • THOSE ARE SOME HUGE DACHSHUNDS! My baby is 17 months and only weighs 9 pounds! They are very pretty tho! You can tell that you take good care of them and love them a lot!

  • Thank you for the video. I was picking up my Dachshund wrong and I became worried after I read that they have an incredibly fragile spine.

Percy is 5 months old, we picked him up from the shelter on Saturday. He is my first dog ever and I want to make sure his quality of life is the best it can be, he's incredibly sweet and deserves it.

  • Your message is sooo very important. In haste, I picked up my dachsie when we were being aggressively approached by a pitbull, and I hurt a disk in her back. A week later she couldn't move her back end at all, and $3000 later a a very good surgeon, she was eventually able to walk again. The surgery has to be done ASAP for greater success. Thanks again!

  • I have one too, and i would kill myself if i would see her paralized because of a spine injury !

  • And to imagine there are people who dump like that by the side of the road.

  • thank you. i was picking mine up from the bottom wrong. it curved his back more and i always wondered if I was doing it right. I worry about him cause he is on the fat side,...now for his diet!

  • It might mean she's crazy, but so am I. If I had a bunch of money and a big house, I would have roaming herds of dachshund. I would get a large standard dachshund to lead them.

  • Thanks for posting! I have a red short-hair dachshund and he's 4. Wonderful creature. But one is enough for me! He's a mess and a great companion. Love the dachushund artwork on the walls.

  • I'm glad there's videos like this for people to learn the proper way to pick up a dog. I've seen so many pick them up by their front legs which can do damage.

  • Love the dachsies......nice bod by the way.

  • short and simple and to the point. And TRUE. Needed info for dachshund virgins. lol. :) As A weenie mom, much appreciated!

    Smiles, Ruth

  • i luv duchsunds too. mine's name is Butchy and he is so old and lovable. he is a dachsund beagle mix. i am soon going to have him on 1 of my videos!!!P.S. love the dog everything style. u remind me of how i picture myself as i get older!!

  • Thanks. It's good to know we've been picking up our dachshund the right way.

  • Now if only my dachshund comes when I call her. XD

  • ya0ish3lly, I know what you mean. None of my three come when called, either.

Everyone must be careful when picking up a doxie...thanks for the informative video, tiggermiss. I often put my hand and forearm between their back legs (instead of under their abdomen) when I pick them up, which is especially helpful if they've just eaten. lol

  • For real! lol mine just gets excited and runs the other direction

  • wow talk about dachshund decor. martha stuart should do something like that "dachshund decor" lol. very very cute

  • shutup ! MAYBE shes just a dog lover

that does not nessisarley men shes CRAZY!

i have a Dashound and i pick her up that

that all the time she loves it! and there is

nothing rong with that so stfu!

  • Are you kidding me? She's out to inform dachshund owners how to take care of their pets and all you can think about is what she's wearing? Come on! You got the wrong website, dude. Either grow up a little or do your cruising on the skin sites where it belongs!

  • Nice I love dachhounds!

  • Good video.

And, the reason for those wondering: it is to help prevent injury to the dog's back.

Dachshunds are, unfortunately, prone to back problems. This is especially true if the dog is not tended to properly (keeping the dog from jumping from high places, not picking them up with support of their back, et al).

  • Yes, i totaly agree, fragile spines

  • wow!lady i admire u u look like that kinda crazy woman with the cats!lol just without the cats n without the crazy!lol ur more like the dachshund lover i mean common look shes got dachshunds all over hurr wall!lol i admire u tiggermiss!keep up the good work n make more vids!cuzz 2 tell u the truth im not very good at picking up my dachshund abercrombie (we call hurr abby!)

  • dachshunds love that position ! my mom always picks ours up like that. so cute

  • Very nice and informative video. We love our little black 'Mini', Gretchen. Love your wall hangings in the background too! Are'nt they WONDERFULL dogs.

  • Dachshund addicts unit!

  • My little baby girl GingerSnap is going to appreciate the pointers (errr, dachshunds?) when she gets bigger! I pretty much already picked her up the same way, comes from having cats that will hurt me if I lift them wrong. Though honestly, right now I need tips on how to set down a dachshund without breaking it's heart!!! LOL My puppy is semi-permanently attached to my lap and heaven forbid I should need my hands free.

  • I always pick up my darling doxie like that. I'm glad that your helping those of which are new to handling a doxie. Very Helpful.

  • nice video!

  • Aww, what sweet little doggies! I love Dachshunds.

  • Thank you for the video! We just got a dachshund puppy and we are so worried about her back.

  • my doxie pees when I pick him up...but I still pick him up!

  • Very cute! Your house looks like mine...the Dachshund colletibles abound.

  • Aww hi Januet!

  • We also have a minidoxie named HoneyBun, what fun we have with our 'bun' or her alias is "HoneyHoover" after the vacuum cleaner, cause nuthin' hits the floor, or its hers!!!! Have a great day, DACHSHUNDS are longgggggggg time friends!!!!

    Sharon T. from OHIO

  • I love the video, almost as much as I love dachshunds, but I don't need to pick up my little Stewie, he just climbs up my legs!

  • have always picked my babys up like that, thanks for sharing

  • Very informative for new and old dachshund owners. I am glad there is finally a way to share this information. I have one weenie dog and this is the ONLY way I have ever picked him up. Dachshunds have very fragile spines; therefore, you have to support the spine>

  • Tiggermiss. Sorry if you see this mesage 3 times but still getting to grips with You Tube! Just wanted to say that I loved your video. I have 3 Dachsies, one of whom has had a ruptured disc in his back, and it is so important to treat and carry your Dachsie with care. Hope you do some more "Dachsie tips"! Regards from the UK.

  • Ilove this video! It's great to see someone who loves their Dachsies as much as I love my three!Hopefully misstigger will do a regular "Dachsie tips" slot?

    Just fab!

  • You're like me dachshund crazy I've got one mini long haired but I'd like 3. Once many years ago I had 4: mum & dad and 2 babies. Do I love them!!!! Good advice on picking them up but I pick mine up under his back legs - as you know have to be very careful with them.

  • i have a dachshund and he freakin eats you if you pick him up but i love him anyway

  • I love how you call one and then it's multiple dachshunds outta nowhere!

  • kinda makes you wonder how many more she has.

  • Thats very helpful. I'm sure my dachshund Peanut will appreciate it.

  • thanks!

  • Love the video...I love Dachshunds!! I only have one though....thanks for sharing the video.
