Dude, the motif xs8 is a great keyboard. I own a fantom g6/fantom x8 and the patches, sequencer, and multi-track features are off the chain. If were you I would invest my money on piano lessons. I studied piano for over a year and it really helps. i couldn't imagine own such a great workstation and not be able to capitalize from features that the motif has.

I'm in Between the Fantom G and the MOtif... I know the FAntom can sample, but I'm not sure about the Motif.... I love that the motif comes with good sounds though... They are not out to make a killing like Roland who sell good EL. Piano sound and drums separately.... But Roland is a good product, have had the prev. FAntom for a bit... Not sure about Yamaha... I'm TORN!!

I'm aiming to get a fantom G8, roland makes great stuff, i personally didnt like the motif XS8 that much, but thats just me, while it does have some better sounds i prefer the whole setup and style the fantom g8 easier to use and a lot of options, both are rgeat synthesizers, but personally id go with the roland fantom g8 :-)
