  • this is old

  • Isn't drift netting illegal? Good thing they'll be there to stop illegal actions like these

  • I support sea shepherd but why did they sink the drift net? wouldn't it be safer to pull it out?

  • Are the camera men on the sea shepard professionals, or have any schooling in film. Or is it just a beginner with a camera who goes there to film

  • Sea Shepherd is cool.

  • WOOOOOT Yeah! Stick that in your pipes and smoke it Whalers!!!

  • Use potato cannon style launchers to shoot acid stink bombs at the whaling ships.

  • "IWC is an voluntary international organisation and are not backed up by treaty. First, any member countries are free to simply leave the organisation and declare themselves not bound by it if they so wish...Second, any member state may opt out of any specific IWC regulation by lodging a formal objection to it within 90 days of the regulation coming into force[17]... Third, the IWC has no ability to enforce any of its decisions through penalty imposition."-- It's your "LAW"

  • You obviously have never spent a day on a ship at sea. People like you wax philisophical about laws. Watson was tossed in the can for a year and a half after being nabbed like the common criminal he is at the Amsterdam Airport. Anyways, off point. A captain has a responsibility to his crew, his vessel, and he's not any kind of real captain anyways. Its obvious he is the agressor, and he will be made to pay for his actions, eventually. They always do.

  • The great nation of Japan tried sueing Sea Shepherd not once but several times. Oh they failed. lol get over yourself and go have a cry.

and I say once again go change the UN (and CITIES) laws if you have a problem. Japan has tried changing it, but oh they failed at that too. Infact UN turned around and threatened them to stop illegal trade between iceland and japan or legal action will be placed.

    Bad luck for you

  • I dont see Japan having a problem with sailing right through all those poorly worded pacts, agreements, and charters that your kind has so limply put in place to protect the beloved Whales. SO I think it will be you having that cry. Im just pointing out that the IWC has no jurisdiction. That UN Charter allows the Japanese to harvest for research, and organizations like SS to act. But no one allows Piracy and Terrorism under any provision of any charter or agreement. I suggest you read them.

  • no the UN doesn't allow whaling, not directly anwyay. they have banned all species of whales to be traded in any member country.

IWC is not legal binding, you re correct, there arehowever others within it to stop japan from leaving. USA will impose a trade ban if they leave. Thats why thy are still part of it. Otherwise they could whale 1000's within their own waters and as lnog asthey don' trade its all legal

Howver others apply ATS, CITS and the Australian EEZ

    you should research them

  • I dont see SS using the ATS, CITS, and EEZ as its justification for their actions. They Cite the UN World Charter for nature. Seccondy, Australia has no Jurisdiction in international waters.

The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary was set up by the useless IWC.

Fred its legal soup man. Untangle the rats nest before you go charging off with your saber in hand screaming Law, Law, Law. Who has authority, real authority in antarctica? That is the first question that needs to be adressed.

  • There is two sanctuarys down there. so research that first.

And really I have nothing to say mroe to you, you think you knoqw the law better then me... fine believe that. But the fact still remains that they win in the courts. Canada has fiald multiple times, japan has failed. Just recently japan issued arrest warrents buyt interpol never accepted it and its only enforcable in japan and japan only.

  • LOL whatever Fred. I have a mind, and I use it regularly. I dont have to be a lawyer. Secondly Im a First Mate in the US Merchant Marine and am a hell of a lot more proficient at my job than any of those "Sailors" at SS. Everything SS does is outside of SOLAS(Safety of life at sea) standards and practices. I never once stated that I agree with Whaling, only that I see SS getting away with tactics that would land other Conservation Groups in the Can, and its not right.

  • you can think all what you like about the law, you can call them illegal, but we are all here yet to see it. No offence but i beleive the court over your definition of the law.

BTW if you knew anything aout SS you would know that they use CITIES to stop the transport ship, which they did it was fined and de flaged and banned form the southern ocean for 3 years.

another win for SS in the courts.

  • >>>"That UN Charter allows the Japanese to harvest for research,"

oh and it looks like I have to say it again SS is acting under the UN enviromental charter. How d you think they rule in favor with the court if what you are saying is correct. face it they have beaten muiltiple nations in court. They must have a strong case.

  • OK, here comes a quote from your Holy Charter since you havn't bothered to read it. "Constant efforts shall be made to increase knowledge of nature by

scientific research and to disseminate such knowledge unimpeded by

restrictions of any kind."-- UN World Charter For nature.

I know it also says that in so far as they are able, private organizations can impliment this charter...

But it doesnt say it is ok to attack anyone as SS seems to believe. SS is the only party in breach.

  • BTW define "terrorism" for us. This shall be interesting, comparing a ship that throws stinks bombs to people who conducted 9/11.

I guess you call the navys of the world terrorist too. They act legally yet they bomb and kill illegal vessals and crew. Heck to your criteria every law enforcement that is in favor of the court are terrorist.

  • LOL come on fred, use that melon of yours... anyone who boards a vessel of a foreign flag upon the high seas without consent... especially after you have been attacking them with Fouling gear. How are the Japanese to know some hot head idealist doesn't strap a few pounds of explosives to his chest? Not outside the realm of possibility given the circumstances. In the end, being the anarchists of the ocean isn't going to help. Making it un-profitable in Japan is the only real solution.

  • Oh yeah Fred, there are other terrorists besides the 9/11 ones. Heh heh, Bin Laden diddn't invent the shit you know. Terrorism is "the use of violence or INTIMIDATION, especially for political purposes"-Oxford Dictionary. Look it up if you need to. You tell me how throwing stink bombs, Slippery substances, fouling steering Gear, ramming ships, and Illegally boarding other vessels at sea is NOT terrorism? Just see what happens now the world is clamping down on this shit at sea(Somalia).

  • well done u defined terrorism, now define Eco Terrorism you'll be supprised.

  • You could probably define Eco Terrorism better than I. After all its your organization that wrote the book. Same type of people blow up abortion clinics, string piano wire on snowmobile trails, and cut supports on tree stands so hunters fall. Its not acceptable under any circumstances. How would you like it if someone who diddnt agree with you cut your brake lines in your car? Would it be OK if they had a good reason? I dont think so. But its ok to do to Japanese fishermen?

  • if my car was illegal and they shut it down by draining fuel. Fine. Problem with that is the UN charter is for sea only. NGO can't shut down illegal crimes on land.

    ALF is illegal I agree.

and for your marine experience, funny cause they have about 10 ex marines on their ship, one left a commanding role just for SS.

And it looks like I have to say it again, the courts ruling has much more credit then your opinion of the law, your job is basicly a slave to it you should realise that.

  • Well thats just fine and dandy. Where were all these professional seamen when they were filming Whale Wars? They demoted the only guy who had a head on his shoulders for initiating a search square. The mate on watch should have called the old man immediately when they lost track of their shipmates. No exceptions for Paul being awake for 36 hours... its an emergency. Fires dont break out when you feel like fighting them, 4 people could have been lost, it was dumb luck that they wern't.

  • SS didn't film whale wars, Animal Planet sent their own film crew to do that. If you are worried about the experience these people have, go view the appication form.

  • wait, so you are saying that all diddn't happen? The Discovery Film Crews made it up? I read the application form about 3 weeks ago. What I am asking is which one of those crewmen on that show was a professional seaman? With credentials to stand a watch on an unlimited tonnage vessel?

  • what? the film crew is a film crew, they don't make up the ships crew. they are merely passengers, about 7-9 of them. Animal planet will protray what they got to what they want to acheieve. They are a film industry. Your not making sense now, what I got out of your last message you think the whole crew is animal planet?

  • I know full well how hard it is to train up a brand new crew who has no sailing exp. But that C/M is responsible for that. He should be drilling them until they can launch those small boats in their sleep, turn them too in the middle of the night if you have to in order to add some stress. He tripped the boat the first time, lowering it with crew aboard and not keeping that painter tight. He broke his thumb doing it again, then left the deck without a relief.

  • Even your own country states japan is acting illegally.

But hey if your so upset why don't you take Sea Shepherd to court? Japan spends millions on lawyers trying to stop and charge them. but hey you know so much more then them, this should be a breeze for you.

We'll your wasting you time on here being frustrated and think you know so much, Sea Shepherd is still out there stoping illegal acts.

  • Im not frustrated at all, on the contrary. Im actually having a great time. I was watching your videos too, hoping I might find something on there that might make me see what you are seeing. Free exchange of Ideas Fred. I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • ah ha. well good, so surely you realise you debating the laws on youtube won't change the courts previous and most likly future dicisions.

  • I never thought that speaking my mind on a youtube site that was dedicated to a bunch of people with an unpopular viewpoint doing the same, would change any minds. I hope that whaling ends, but I hope more that no impressionable kids get led to their deaths because they put faith in ships officers that are demonstrating a lack of Proficiency in some pretty basic seamanship tasks, not to mention colliding with 10,000tonners.

  • our messages are probably going to get deleted for spam anyway, this video is about drift netting lol

  • Well then why don't you volunteer your time, and help them out, since you're such an expert and are so worried and think you can do better. Show them how it's done. =)

  • It doesn't matter what laws they think they are upholding(or fantasizing that they are upholding).

At all times a seaman shall practice prudent seamanship. No vessel shall hinder the safe navigation of another vessel upon navigable waters. Ramming other vessels like this causes danger to life, and damage to property. All of this and more are against international Maritime Laws. Piracy is going to become more dangerous to practice

the problem is which governing body is going toenforce it?

  • >>>"It doesn't matter what laws they think they are upholding...At all times a seaman shall practice prudent seamanship. No vessel shall hinder the safe navigation of another vessel"

Wrong; the UN says to stop any ship that is conducting illegal operations. You want to change this? go to the UN not here.

BTW many governemnts have taken SS to court, ohhh they all ruled in SS favor... I think I agree with the court more then your opinion of laws.

  • u guys should shut up! there trying there best on the ss but there encounters made the ss in a bad situation. and if u see the last part of this video than u can see that the japenese have been charged

  • keep up the great work Sea Shephard or gov'ts suck right now .We need protectors for the oceans not rapist

  • What a bunch of punks.

The SS better never again complain about a ship "ramming" them.

    Hypocrites.

Listen, those fishers may be criminals but what government gave you the authority to use force to enforce a law?

    NONE, punk criminals.

    The SS are international criminals.

  • Yeah !! Sea shepherd.. go go go !

  • bunch of idiots,Sea Shepherd.Lame

  • fuck up jap

  • Magnificent footage !!!

  • Heroic Shephards of the Sea!

  • well it's about time somebody did somthing about it.. Can you say it any better.. keep it up.

  • excellent job Sea Shepherd!

  • You people do what a lot of us can only dream of doing. Such awesome footage.
