That was some good riding skills there bc.. I found your video via Smyrna Cowboy's posting. I'm a vlogger for our scooter club here in NE Ohio. I once owned a Burgman 400 and sold several years ago. Purchased a cheap 257cc JCL last year for something to ride. Need to step up into a 650 Burgman hopefully next year. The three children in college has been killing my play money for another scoot. Did I catch you were from Indiana?? My company is based in Evansville, IN..
Not too shaken to ckeck out his bike and retrieve a few pieces of plastic. A motorbike stops in around 175ft at 40mph and he went back past it anyway.
The accident was clearly not his fault but his lack of concern for a sentient creature possibly in dreadful pain was shocking. i live in the country and have hit various creatures over the years including large wild boar but would never dream of leaving the scene without dealing with a suffering creature.
@cdavidiain >his lack of concern for a sentient creature possibly in dreadful pain was shocking.<
??? I don't know how you can assume that from this video, which was edited to show the deer impact , damage to the bike, and that the motorcycle still ran. How do you know he didn't check the deer before going back to get the bike debris out of the road? The deer was hit in the head at 40MPH. It was really most sincerely dead, it was not in the traffic lane. What more would you have him do?
@cdavidiain If you're just Joe Shmoe driver from the city, what do you do if you hit a deer on the highway, it's dark, you're out in the middle of nowhere, and the deer is not completely killed? What is the proper way to end its suffering?
Clearly not the fault of the motorcyclist but what is shocking is that his first reaction was to look at the damage to his bike and doesn't even go near the deer to see if it is dead or injured and suffering. Reming me never to be involved in a accident with this callous man.
@althaushexe Dude, did you watch the whole video? It's not like he was riding a bicycle. He was cruising along at 40MPH, it takes some time to slow down and stop. He stopped several yards down the road, collected his wits, checked the bike to see if it was driveable, turned around and went back past the deer. It was obvious the deer was dead along side the road. He likely could see the deer from where he stopped and could tell it was dead. The video is edited not continuous.
@cdavidiain Obviously you don't ride...and if you do, you have never had a wreck or even a close call. If you had, you'd know that he would have been VERY shaken up. I guarantee you that in that situation, the last thing on your mind (initially, anyway) would be the well-being of the deer
I feel jiffed |: I paused the video right when the deers head popped out of the bushes, missed the excitement everyone else got with all the jumping outta your seat n shit :(
Holy cow!! Even though I was waiting for it, that scared the hell out of me! One of the best deer strikes on Youtube ever, and nice job staying upright!
Definition of a good accident. One you ride away from. And before anyone gets on their high horse,I am a bike rider in the Forest of Dean,And they do come fron nowhere and try to take you out
@zx6roy Thanks. Yea, the crazy things people say about anything... And I would like to add that I did turn the volume down on about 2 seconds of not very calm in this video.
@mountainbliss4u Yes, and with the left headlight pointing straight down it's kind of like having those neon lights under a car like the cool kids have. :)
Nice job of keeping the bike up! I've had 3 very close encounters with deer and all had my heart in my throat. They come out so fast it's virtually impossible to avoid them. My misses were mostly pure luck combined with the fact I knew I was in a high risk area and slowed down.
I'd be sure to watch the entire video b4 making any comment. Fusionarena is right, the deer looks pretty dead. I'd been out in the woods for 4 weeks looking for a freshly dead deer. never saw one, not even a live one. Next season, I'm riding my scoot in the woods. Just kidding. Deer strikes are BAD.
Really glad you were able to drive away from that one. I'm always on the lookout when driving at night, I'm glad I exchanged my standard bulbs for some 60% brighter ones, can see much further and it lights up the roadsides better. FYI for everyone; if 1 deer runs across the road ahead, be really watching for a 2nd or more, best to slow down in anticipation.
I kept trying to put together how the heck you didn't at least get any bruises on your leg, forgot about the whole legs in front of you thing. I'd probably have a broken leg on my bike... and knowing my track record, I wouldn't have held the bike up either.
It is interesting that nobody has shown any concern for the deer who was totally unaware of the dangers that crossing a road could be. Whilst I am sympathetic for the rider, being a Burgman rider myself, I think a bit of compassion towards the wildlife would not go amiss. After all, travelling along a virtually deserted road with trees either is prime territory for this sort of thing.
You were lucky. Your bike was lucky. The deer not too lucky. The fawning season will be starting in a month or two. The deer get much more active. So It is going to get worse. Sometimes there is no avoiding, as in your case. Glad you are not injured.
You handled that far better than I would... I would have pulled over by the dear and stomped its freaking head in... and then gutted it and had deer for lunch :)
LMAO, no animal was harmed, he was looking around too much at that speed!!!

Nothing you could have done to avoid it. Luckily you stayed upright and escaped injury. We often see deer around here and it is a worry.

This needs to be seen because of a safety notice to other riders and because you did well in controlling your bike and keeping it up.
Make the title Morning Ride - Deer Strike and it will get more views and help the community.
I am going to mention it in my TDD report this weekend.
