Id take that engine out for dinner, then id try to bed it. Id take back it to its home that very night tho, cos i wouldnt want to wake next such a loud b**ch.
Looks like two Kawasaki ZX12R top ends on eight 12R rods and a bespoke crank and case -- it even retains the 12R's valve covers with blocked-off EGR ports. The bike valvetrain is mostly why it can rev this high so easily, since the donor bike has a redline a good margin above this test.
For those not familiar with 'why flat crank'... flat cranks allow for much easier ignition timing and exhaust scavenging.
Nice work. Hope it finds a home in a customer chassis soon.;)
Beautiful engine, but I really don't like the sound of flat plane cranks. Sorry, seems to be a matter of taste. I agree to the comment about dancing to the rhythm of a cammed 550 cui cross plane V8. And I don't usually dance much :-)
Great engine, love it! Was (very casually) looking at building one for aircraft use a few years ago, maybe I'll look at one of your long stroke ones when I'm feeling rich! Any chance you have a twin-spark version with higher rated bearings in the offing? :-)
Your website says you guys are working on a sequential up to 250ft/lbs? So I guess it's under that. Would really love to see dyno charts for your engines.
Is that a completely brand new design or did u base it off of two kawasaki zx-12r heads and design the bottom end? Also for what application r u using it for, racing i presume but in what kind a chassis r u going to slap the puppy into?
thanks - bear in mind this is recorded on a small digital camera, inside a dyno cell and then compressed to post on the internet... Hopefully you can enjoy hearing it in real life one day and you might change your mind!
@simonlongdill if you could i would take two Honda Civic SI K20Z3 engines and make a 400 HP flat plane V8, I build a Supercar for that engine Like a Super Lotus Elise. I have been in a Civic Si and it sounds like a F1 car!
@super00su our 2400cc engines already make over 400hp, we have some 2950cc engines underway now.
hmm, I do already have some designs for a Honda F20 V8, 4000cc and around 550hp to start with. looking for a customer for it in order to manufacture.. :-)
@simonlongdill If i ever get a car kit or Ferrari 308 (with get the Berlinetta Motorcars Ltd Ferrari 288 GTO conversion kit), I would drop some thing like 550hp 4000cc flat plane V8, I love American V8;s but I am sick of seeing loud American V8 in a every RMR car kit, i want FERRARI SOUNDS! Plus you could drop that engine in the S2000, OR even better Honda NSX on man that would be so sexy a 550 hp Honda power 4.0L V8 NSX. I hope your business flies!
It's possible 2 F20c put on same crank, actually you need to redesign same engine to connect on each other sharing crank. Than you need to make a matrix for model joinery and than make mold to cast the engine shape. You can use same or little modified heads. Your project sounds good but too expensive.
You can buy engine from video for less than 30,000 $ with g-box.
@laurence265 That can't be helped. It's a flat plane crank, which runs basically like two inline fours strapped together. It's why an F430 sounds like a 4A-GE 20V.
@laurence265 I think that is just the microphone on the camera. I would imagine it sounds very similar to a Ferrari F355 (3500cc flat plane V8) only with higher revs. I would love to someday develop a flat plane crankshaft for the V8 in my Corvette because I love the sound.
@v12tommy really? I always thought the flat planes sounded too much like power tools or high strung 4clys. If you don't want your corvette motor anymore I'll take it! lol (kidding)
@Warblade118 I love the engine in my Corvette. Unfortunately I blew the engine back in December. Most likely a dropped valve, but I won't know until I make room in my garage to pull the engine and take it apart. I would like a flat plane crank for it because it would sound different than all the other Corvettes, but when it comes to engine sounds, nothing beats a V12 in my opinion. First engine I ever built was a V12, that is how I got my username. Even named by business after them.
@v12tommy Not me man, a 500 something ci high compression big block with a big ol' 300 duration stick pounding out a broken rhythm you could dance to gets me going. (wipes tear from eye just thinking about it... lol)
V10-16's just sound too much like appliances to me. They just don't "sound" powerful ya know?...its hard to put into words. Kinda the difference between a varoom (V12) and a ROAR!! (V8)
flat plane is just fucking amazing..wow

How big is the stroke? Runs phenominally smooth for 10000RPM.

@RomeoReject23 lets hope not more than 3in or so lol

@sean55719 Well, I mean piston speed is always limited to 3000 ft/sec, so it can't be too large... I guess the same stroke as stock would make sense.

Now THAT'S a V8!
I love N/A anything, but only if it's got the Individual throttles. They sound so much cooler. What's this motor based off of?
Nelso90 3 years ago
God. Two 1200cc 4 cylinders whacked together.
It's cool cause it's a v8 that revs like a rotary.
but it just doesn't have the note :(
what kinda numbers are you guys getting?

are u talking about the v8 note? if thats what ur talking about its because its got a flat plane crank
