first char, was a high elf wizard then i took an arrow in the knee and made a barbarian shaman (halas best starting zone) took me a while to travel to freeport on foot (even with sow)
i bought the game recently from steam, i just couldn't let it pass for just 2.50$, started on kelethin(i always made a half-elf but hanged around freeport), my dreams shattered when i saw the new freeport :(
Hearing this makes me want to play. And then thinking about playing now makes me sad because of the glory days gone by and how that world is gone and will never be here again.
This game gave me depression, made me gain 90kg and took 10 years of my life. Then I grew up and continued the same addiction with WoW. Then my balls dropped, I got in shape, and I balance lifed but STILL play MMO's. Starwars TOR like a boss bitches.
if skyrim were a MMORPG and could go to all the old place's not just skyrim that would be pritty cool but it would still not be a epic as EQ1 was some the zone in EQ1 just made you feel epic for size sure i found some place in skyrim but theres far less in it then EQ1 had
I still remember playing this on a very slow computer on dial up internet
Then when the phone rang, it cut the internet off and since I don't want to get caught wasting the internet (it was expensive), I had to directly turn off the power supply on the PC everytime
I honestly prefer EQ2 over this one. this one was just too hard for me. and with my limited budget, i cant afford to try this again, unless its free to play like EQ2 is now.
@mrsparkle001 i read a bit about it. In all frank honesty, im not even in the mood for anything everquest right now. My shifting interests currently lay with TES: V: Skyrim.
@Skijaramaz Oh yeah I'm looking forward to that too. I need a whole new computer first though, I've just been putting off researching and ordering the parts. Since it's only EQ I'm playing in the meantime it's no rush to spend $1000+
Man, I play WoW now, but I'll tell you.. Though I -do- think WoW is a superior game by far, there are so many things about EQ I miss. I miss how hard the game was - how accomplishing something was truly an accomplishment. How dying was a serious consequence. I also LOVED the Bazaar aspect of it. Going in with all of your stuff and actually BECOMING a merchant... And being able to carry your spells with you before you leveled. Gah... I miss it.
This music brings back so many memories. Best concept and game experience for 2 reasons:
1) It was a new way of playing mmo
2) It was unforgiving and that made it feel more real. I remember dying in the pit and having to shout for other players to help me recover my corpse. True teamplay!!!
The problem with modern MMO's is that they take out all the challenge and risk. Why can't game developers understand that risk = drama and risk = real reward. Oh wait, WoW is why. Dumbing down gaming to sub middle school levels since the day it was released.
I never played the original EverQuest, but I can tell from this one song that I missed out on an unbelievably epic experience. This is just simply magical.
Orc hill...It was a tiny spec of land in the game, but known by all. This game was really special. That minotaur in the gnome starting spot, sargeant slate. WTB brainwash so I can start this all over.
Attention all current and former EQ players. SoE is opening a brand new time locked progression server on Feb 15th. If you love EQ like the rest of us, come join us! Server opens with only Kunark enabled. Come one, come all!
I agree that it was probably the best gaming experience i've ever had (and thats a lot coming from me, playing PC games my whole life, i'm 28 now..) I may play the odd game here or there, but nothing steps up to the Everquest experience!
I'm looking forward to trying the new Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO coming out., however nothing can re-create the Everquest experience.
@Midvinterblot542 i still try, but nothing come close to classic EQ first time i ever played it i didnt sleep for 2 days, and at the end of the two days i was still killing skellies and rats outside of freeport, and loving every second of it.
@begeura Just to let you know you can still play classic EQ with over 1000 people on the server. Project 1999 is free and gives directions on how to join their server. It's alot of fun and almost identical to the good old times. Check it out.
@Midvinterblot542 Yep all mmos these days are made to be easy everything is handed to you and you can level max in only a few days. EQ took days just for 1 level and endgame was whatever you wanted it to be. I always felt accomplished when we beat some hard raid that took us months to work on.
@ezzadan1987 Brave fat asshole writing bullshit on a web page. Its dumbass smart mouths like you that ruin everything for every body. Grow up dipshit. You were a noob then and are still a punk ass noob.
this song is sooo good but also reminds me of those memories when i hated hearin this while waitin to relog back in cos u went LD in middle of a fight and u just knew when u got done seein that high elf lady on the load screen u would be nakee and back at bind point
EQ was the best when there were no expansions. I hated it when Luclin graphics were added (But I loved the Beastlord, lol). The old school graphics were way better. Pre-Kunark was the bomb.
Tallon/Vallon Zek, Rallos Zek, and Sullon Zek were such awesome servers to play on... especially if you were a PvP Class or had uber gear.
I loved the advantage over noobs pressing W+D and holding right click... strafing at that diagonal made you go slightly faster.
@FaceAfro Project 1999, check it out. It's not 100% classic EQ, but it's very, very close. I joined the server about a month ago, it's quite populated! We're nearing 700 people online at core times (Classic EQ averaged 1000 online) it definitely feels populated. Come =)
@Hammerman24 They got torn apart by a 6 month expansion release schedule that flooded the game with more content than could be supported by the player base.
El mejor juego de la historia... This is the best game ever made. Can't forget the good times I've passed inside the world of Norrath. Long life to EQ ;) Btw, I love monks !
I remember playing this game...I never made it past 26 because I would just go around roleplaying, 'saving' the captured elves and such.
I was such a geek. Still it was the best MMO experience I've ever played. I've tried all kinds of MMO's to try to replicate the feeling, even WoW. None were as good...

hey guys google eqemu vztz pvp server. all you need is titanium package to play for free! pvp server currently with kunark & velious released. population a little low atm but is growing. need some of you oldschool pvpers to come back and get this community going
EQ Titanium + EQEmu FREE servers = The best RPG community tools around.
I'm a new player, back to EQ after 6 years, just signed up on EQEmu, and loving it! I hope more new players come to the open, free alternative and develop EQ for the next ten years!
what is the lady elf name? i know i seen her on a magizine a long time back and it had her name on it shes really pretty they changed her look with the new eq
The simple reason why this was such a memorable game, that current MMO's badly lack:
1. Grouping (and by extension community in general) was not only normal and expected, it was sought after as the fun way to play.
2. It was HARD. And when you accomplished something, even getting from one town to another, you felt proud like you'd done something. Getting lost because your Sense Heading was crap. Corpse recovery and death risks made you afraid LIKE YOU SHOULD BE - it made the world real.
Totally agree with you on your second point! I remember playing years ago as an Enchanter. I had to change into a Dark Elf and sneak into the Ogres' homeland (forgot the name) to get the Stein of Moggok then I got outta there before the illusion wore off. :D I was well chuffed and proud of meself for that one. lol
@redmondgiant BINGO! that's my sentiments exactly. the fact that everything was scary and you needed a party to travel outside the city was real. and awesome. the fact that ppl didn't just sit around talking items and shit, but about adventures was awesome. I still remember when i was camping and a Char was telling me about the sleeper raids
Absolutely -- i've been a proponent of this argument for ages now but no one listens.. The problem is that game designers cave into the demands of the masses, the latter not knowing what's good for them and not realising that subconciously a harder and more terrifying experience is worth more to the heart and mind.
Dude, join the time progression server starting on the 15th. It is going back to this old format of classic everquest and every 60-90 days they will open an expansion if the players vote to do it. It will be populated so i would do it!
@redmondgiant Not to mention you could tell everything was much more detailed and that they spent more time manually designing the world as opposed to things like WoW which are obviously just brushed in terrain with cloned NPCs
For people that played this game a lot, I know you remember how drawn in a lot of people got. I remember seeing character weddings in the game. I remember seeing a wedding in west commons by the druid rings. I have yet to see that kind of commitment in any other MMORPG. it wasn't just one wedding either, it was like over 20 weddings on the server I was one, over that. Even the GM's would Marry the characters, LMFAO.
damn, everything about this game was just so kick ass, I really miss it.
like in another video I said "this game is pure fantasy and I doubt any game will ever match the feeling this game gave me at the beginning".
I mean, when you played this game, you would be so drawn into your character. I'm not talking about roleplaying, I'm talking about being zoned into the game completely, You were the character you were playing.
i think because we listened to it so much while it was loading, it is because all of a sudden i felt the urge to look it up after years of not playing.... it just came back to me........... wow...
omg this just made me so sad/nostalgic :(:( i remember sitting at my computer back when i was on aol dialup and my computer being SO SLOW with eq but i'd be so content and patient while it loaded while listening to this :D haha god, i miss old eq
I wonder why they don't just make the original through Velious free to play on a server with advertisements at login or a one time fee... the game is dated and they're not making any money off people like me who aren't interested in the later expansions--it's not that I wouldn't pay and simply play and quest (solo-twink if must) in the old worlds, it's that when I went back to check them out they were unrecognizable in every way (not to mention eyesore with the blending of old and new graphics).
always get goosebumps with this theme, i loved this game so much it was pathetic.

@redmondgiant HAHA! Yes. We should all be afraid in MMOs. I totally agree. Unfortunately, you and I are in the minority.

I'm not talking about roleplaying, I'm talking about being zoned into the game completely, You were the character you were playing.

i think because we listened to it so much while it was loading, it is because all of a sudden i felt the urge to look it up after years of not playing.... it just came back to me........... wow...

Been a year since I played, had played since the start...

I miss this load up music. Less grating on the ears than the current theme. A lot of the new stuff just doesn't have the same magic.
